Communism And The Korean War
In the year of 1950 June 25th, It was the day when the Korean war was taken place. There was many countries involved, Powerful countries with the
names of The United states, China, The United Nations, Soviet Union and The two Koreas North and South. It all started when North Korea
Invaded South Korea what they seeked was power, they just wanted to make the two Koreas into one single state but, it lead to war. Many people
suffered of hunger, thirst and had nowhere to go, many people indeed were scared and died. All of this was just for power and the worst thing of all is
that others got involved into the war, The U.S. and the UN was with the south and China was with the North, the Soviet Union only supported the north

Until the U.S. and the UN came to the rescue and fight along the South vs the Soviet Union and China with the North. The war led to many deaths
and people suffering because they lacked on food or water or they just had nowhere to go at all. Another cause was that North Korea wanted to invade
land but they were the ones that were unlucky because after the war South Korea had more land because of the border in the 38th parallel, so the ones
that wanted to ended up losing their own land. Another cause was that the U.S. had to get involved and spent the most money they would ever spend
for in many years about $67 billion. That's quite a lot for an all out

The Korean War
The Korean War is often referred to as the forgotten war. There exist no monuments in Washington D.C. to acknowledge the thousands of American
soldiers who fought valiantly and died for their country's political interests. There are no annual parades, and little information in text books to shed
light on the war. Korea was a bloody war. The United States sustained over 140,000 casualties with 33,000 killed in action, yet the U.S. never formally
honored its fallen soldiers.1 The war was another chance to indirectly overpower communism in the beginning of the Cold War. Interestingly it was

decided that both sides of Korea should have their own elections. The elections were held on January 12, 1948.4 Since North Korea favored
communism, the people elected the Russians and Kim Il Sung, a former guerrilla leader. South Korea favored democracy and formed the Republic of
Korea (ROK) under U.S. educated, Dr. Sygman Rhee.5 The Soviets withdrew from North Korea in 1949. They left a communist dictatorship with a
well trained, well armed, North Korean–Soviet army. In fear of the North Koreans newly developed strength, the U.S. left South Korea with some
small arms and military advisors. American troops left Korea at the end of 1949.6
Both the North Koreans and the Russians wanted to overthrow South Korea to expand their empire. Above all, Russia had a chance to oppose its
economic and military rival, the United States. North Korea, armed with Soviet tanks, boats, planes, and guns, planned a surprise attack across the
38th parallel into South Korea. Late Saturday evening on June 24, 1950, president Henry Truman got a urgent phone call. Truman was informed that a
well organized and many pronged invasion of South Korea by the North Koreans was under way. The U.S. was obliged to defend South Korea.7
The invasion of South Korea was prompted by the Soviet Union, therefore, the invasion was a direct challenge to the United States. For many years
before Korea, the U.S. and the Soviets were in competition for the number of countries backing

Pre–World War III: Korean War
In this seemingly peaceful world, the Korean Peninsula has been seen as one of the hottest potatoes in the world. Many people do not acknowledge that
the Korean War has not ended, but the event settled with just an armistice since the tension of the war became so intense between not only two
Koreans, but other major countries such as Russia, China, and the United States. Even an armistice of the war, there still remains severe tensions in the
Korean Peninsula and because of this, questions like why Korea has been the only divided country in the world and what has increased the tension
between two Koreans have been brought up to historians. And to the answers to the questions about the modern Koreans is the war...show more

is no doubt that Korean War is influential to the both Koreas in the political side and economical side, with their ongoing conflict between each other

The Causes And Effects Of The Korean War
The Korean War
Korea is a small country located in Asia. Its peninsula is surrounded by China to the northwest,Russia to the northeast and Japan to the east. Due to
Korea's size and the location, it only made it vulnerable target for many in the East. For many years, Korea have been under control by Japan. After
the defeat of Axis powers during World War II, Korea have finally liberated from Japan. The peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel as it was
temporarily administered by USSR and the USA. So, how did the Korean War get started? USSR seeked communism in North Korea, which the US
found dangerous since the Communist Manifesto. America was determined to hold an election to create a form of government to reunite Korea.
However the negotiation did not settle the issue of divided Korea. United Nation steps in, plans to remove foreign troops and temporarily establish UN
commission for Korea. Unfortunately, Soviet Union disagrees with the United Nations decision and permanently establish communism in North Korea,
while South Korea are supported by the United States. The Korean War was immediately caused when Kim Il–sung, first leader of North Korea,
attempts to unify Korea under his authority. The Korean War have brought impacts to many different countries that participated in the war. Korea
looked devastating after the war, United States proved they are the world power, Soviet Union protected communism in North Korea, and China have

Korean War
Throughout the history of mankind there has always been war. Nations have always had disagreements with one another and the result is the death of
many young soldiers. Although many men die in war, not as many men die if the war was fought to win and not only to stop the enemy. However, the
wars that have not been fought to win, but only to stop a force, have had much greater a loss than those fought to win. In the Korean War the United
States did not fight to win but just to subjugate the North Korean forces that were annihilating the landscape and its people. Although the Korean War

Behind those tanks were well over a hundred foot soldiers ready to kill.
The American soldiers tried everything they could to stop the tanks, but it was useless, their M16A1 carbines were no match for the heavy armor of
the T45/85 tanks. The American troops tried to hold them off but had to retreat a little further back to escape from the tanks. By that time it was
raining and their ammunition was no good along with their communications. But after some fighting it was useless against the North Korean
forces so the American troops were given the order to withdraw, but some of them did not get the order and were totally consumed by the awesome
power of the North Korean army. The American army withdrew to the Kum River. While they were waiting for reinforcements, General Walker
came and told the troops that "if [North Koreans] come across the river, [the Americans] are to stay here and fight to the death" (A Personal
Narrative of the Korean War 33). Right after General Walker had said that, he got into his jeep and sped off. Almost all the troops were either out of
ammunition or low on it. The American troops held of the North Koreans for a total of seven hours. Everybody was trying to help the guy next to

How Did The Korean War Affect The Economy
Impact of the Korean War on the Economy of the United States
The impact of the Korean War on America's economy took place between the years 1950 to 1953. World War II had cost the United States much,
much more than the Korean War, however this war did not change the structure of growth and financing in America. The Korean War lifted our GDP
growth, which indicates how fast a country's economy is growing. It had this effect through government spending. When there is spending, there is
less investing and consumption. Taxes had to be raised a great deal to pay for the Korean War. There were big increases in prices when the war
began. By the end of the war, prices and wage controls became more stable. Through the Revenue Act of 1951,...show more content...

My First Korean War
I was born and raised in a Christian family in South Korea. South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world when the Korean War ended
in 1953; however, the country soon faced a rapid economic growth and became one of the fastest growing countries from the early 1960s to the late
1990s. While all of my grandparents lived through the Korean War, my parents did not experience the war, but they have seen and heard the tragic
ruins of what the war had left behind. Gratefully, both of my parents were raised by a Christian mother. My parents grew up admiring the hard work of
their mothers and learning the integrity and faith to be the highest values. When I was born in 1981, the economy was on the increasing trend; my

At that time, Korean medicine did not have a treatment for my eye disease, and I was losing my eye sight. For the next about nine years, my mother
had to take me to the doctor's office every month for a regular check–up; I remember that I had to miss the school on the day of my doctor visit because
the hospital visit took us about 4 to 5 hours each time we travelled. Every time we went, the long travel and waiting exshuasted us, and it did not
seem that there was any way to treat the disease. Additionally, I was physically weak and had awful skin allergies that made my face, arm, and legs
chapped and bleed. My health had been a top concern for my parents, and they had put a lot of time and efforts to find the best treatment for me.
Since my health condition was very concerning, my parents had not demanded any hard school work from me, which was not a common parenting
at that time. South Korea has been famous for its education fever, and most of my friends were busy with their after school activities and studying.
However, I was an exception to that life style; I did not have to go to any after school tutors or academy for extra studying; rather, I spent a lot of time
on my own activities that I enjoyed, such as reading books, listening to music, and singing songs. I don't remember having

Short And Long Term Effects Of The Korean War
The Korean War started on June 25, 1950 when North Korea attacked South Korea. The War lasted until July 27, 1953 when an armistice was signed
by both sides. The Korean War was devastating to both North and South Korea. There were millions of human casualties between soldier and civilian
deaths. The War also destroyed a lot of cities and farmland. TheKorean War caused a lot of deaths and destruction to Korea, and the war was a hard
war fought between North Korea and its allies and South Korea and its allies.

They found Russia and China. China agreed to help them because when they fought for a communist government the North Koreans sent troops to
help them and China felt indebted to them. Russia was assigned to help rebuild North Korea and gave them vehicles, aircraft and a few water patrol
craft. The reason North Korea was looking for allies was because they felt they would never be able to reunite Korea as a whole because South and
North Korea where being led by different governments. During the course of the war, China became more involved when South Korea and its allies
moved into North Korea. China had warned that if the United Nations moved into or attacked North Korea then china would attack. The United States
greatly underestimated the number of Chinese that were currently in North Korea and were ready to fight.
The allies of the South Koreans also made a big impact. North Korea could have easily have defeated the South Koreans if the United States and the
United Nations hadn't stepped in to help. The United Nations had a group of countries supporting them that gave troops and military supplies to the
South Koreans. The United States gave their large Naval force and Air Force to support them. At the beginning of the war the United Nations was
losing because they had very little numbers of troops and not a very good tank compared to the Russians T–34 tank which could not be

really set the tone for the rest of the Cold War, which was to be played out through the next decade. Also it demolished the economy in Korea due
to all of the fighting and how it was looked down upon by most of the world. One last effect that this war had on Korea was that it lost more than 4
million people during this war and at least 2/3 of those people were civilians. In conclusion, this war was one of the bloodiest wars of the 20th
century and it brought a lot of heartache to people around the world. Yes, this war demolished a lot of things but in reality it needed to be fought
because without it, the fighting would be much more intense than it is today and we may have to sacrifice even more lives from our country to fight

The Causes of the Korean War
On 25th June 1950, ninety thousand North Korean soldiers invaded South Koreas border defences, The Korean war had begun, this small scale civil
war would escalate into an international conflict. Historically Korea had once been a united country, under Japanese rule for between 1905 and 1945
however, the Japanese were unruly and did not treat the Koreans well. At the end of the Second World War it was decided that the country would be
divided along the 38th parallel and occupied by soviet troops in the North and American troops in the South. Syngman Rhee, who had spent some years
exiled in America, became the president of South Korea in 1948, while Kim Il Sung, having...show more content...
The USA did not provide an air force for the South Koreans as they too did not want Syngman Rhee to abuse his advantageous position.
In 1949, Mao had just led a communist government to victory in a Chinese civil war, leaving the defeated Chinese nationalists in exile on the island of
Taiwan (Formosa). This precedent where the Americans failed to stop the spread of Communism resulted in criticism of Truman's apparent soft
approach towards the dangers outlined in the domino theory. This may have led to questions being asked as to would the USA intervene ifNorth Korea
invaded the South, Truman would now have to take a more stern and uncompromising approach to communism if he was to maintain domestic support
and some may argue that the Korean support was an unnecessary token gesture to prove his vigilance and hard–line approach to communism. The
Soviet Union adapted a somewhat different approach, Stalin was quite happy for there to be conflict, revolution and war in Asia as it would draw
away attention from his plans of primary importance in eastern Europe, were he wanted to maintain his influence in the so called "satellite countries"
such as Czechoslovakia, Poland

For hundreds of years Korea was dominated by the Chinese empire. After Japan was defeated by the allies in WW II., Korea became occupied by the
Russians in the North and the Americans in the South. Both the U.S. and the Soviets realized that Korea was a strategic country. It was important to
occupy because it lay between China, Japan, and the Soviet Union. North and South Korea were divided by the 38th parallel, it split the country into
two regions. Russia and America became politically involved in Korea, each set up strong governments. The United States wanted Korea to be held
under democratic rule, while the Soviets wanted communist rule. They took these conflicting views to the United Nations (UN), which had just...show

The struggle started as a civil war, because Kim Il Sung choose the date for the attack. The date for the attack was badly taken, because the Soviet
Union was boycotting the security Council of the UN at that time (due to the fact, that a communist representative from China was not allowed to enter
the council). The Soviet Union would have been able to veto any military moves against North Korea until the war was over. Unfortunately Kim Il
Sung took the initiative and invaded South Korea, where a growing opposition welcomed the Northern Korean leader as a liberator and as the one,
who re–united the two Koreas. After Acheson (Secretary of State) had heard of the attack, he decided that the United States should put the matter
before the United Nations. He then called President Truman and got his approval. The Security Council of the United Nations decided to give arms
and equipment to the Republic of Korea and it authorized General Macarthur to stabilize the combat situation with his forces. The attack was seen as a
violation of international peace by the Security Council. It was necessary to repel the armed attack and regain international peace and security in the
area. This was the first time that the United Nations used military intervention to maintain peace. The UN had to be interpreted in a completely
different way, because it was thought to be a peacekeeping organ with peaceful means. However this changed dramatically, when the

The Korean War would be a radical step in fighting wars, as well as the feelings people had toward the war. All wars in American History fought
before the Korean War were based on either national survival or the gain of territory. A strong conflict was created between the Soviet Union and the

The United States joined the war effort in order to defend their country at first, then we continued the war. The Korean and Vietnam wars were the next

fought over a belief in politics rather than the traditional reasons the United States had fought wars in the past.
The Korean began in the middle of the Cold War. The war was fought as a result of North Korea invading the South. "Large movements of
troops, tanks. ordnance and ammunition to the border areas were reported. This was not suspected as a threat of war because it was thought to be a
normal aspect of cold war behavior;" (Ridgway, 14). When America joined the war under command of General MacArthur, they made a great
push North. When they were close to the Yalu River they were orderd to stop and turn around. "United States forces were ordered to turn around
when they were in visual distance of the Yalu river;" (Knox, 439). When China learned of the the position of the Americans they joined the war

The Korean War Research Essay
Often times, two groups of people cannot share land in result of their differences, despite their similarities. In most cases, there's always going to be
that one group, if not both, who have an overwhelming lust for power and control. A lust so great that it enables them to go to extreme measures to
fulfil their desires regardless of what ramifications may arise. An event in history much like what's described is the Korean War. A civil war within a
country ironically turns into a Cold War for the rest of the world.
The Korean War was initiated when Kim Il–sung commenced a surprise attack on South Korea after wrongly assuming the South would willingly
undergo Kim Il–sung's dictatorship. The attack took place at dawn on June 25, 1950. In as little as three days, the communist forces captured the
South Korean capital and occupied most of the country. This invasion may have been a shocker to the South, but the North was preparing years in
advance for it. The North received training from the Soviet Union (USSR) alongside the with Chinese and were supplied weaponry. The USSR's
involvement with the attack was imperative to their success. Joseph Stalin–– leader of the USSR at the time–– was initially against the infiltration of
the South due to his fear of The United States getting involved and declaring a paramount war on the South 's behalf. Stalin ended up changing his
mind because he

Over the course of the 1950s, no event captured the tension of the infamous Cold War more than the Korean War. Fought to prevent the spread of
communism in Korea, the Korean War was a bold political victory for the United States because America sent a clear message to the entire world, as it
was the first military action of the Cold War, that the spread of communism will not be tolerated by the strongest military in the world, the United
States. In addition, the Korean War was an economic benefit for the United States due to the increase of military spending and preserved the freedom
of the South Korean people. However, the Korean War is often labeled as the "forgotten war" due to the failure of the United States to eliminate

Efforts to unify Korea resulted in more than 100,000 deaths due to guerilla warfare. In April 1950, North Korean leader Kim II Sung persuaded
Joseph Stalin to back an invasion of South Korea, convincing Stalin that the United States would not intervene. Stalin agreed to provide arms,
equipment, and advisors to the North Koreans ("Korean War"). Kim II Sung did not stop there as he also persuaded the newly communist Chinese to
aid the North Koreans. The Korean War, (June 25,1950– July 27, 1953), occurred when over 75,000 North Korean Army invaded the land across of
the 38th parallel. American president Harry Truman was feeling heat after "letting China fall", so Truman ordered American troops into action on
South July, the United Sates entered the conflict on South Korea's behalf. The next three years would be the darkest and most horrific in Korean
history. As seen in American reporter Bill Shinn's account, "the North Koreans were gruesome...during the occupation of South Korea, they killed over
165,000 civilians. Also, I witnessed a South Korean mass execution of civilians suspected of having helped the communists. Korea was a mess" ("The
Forgotten War Remembered: Korea, 1950–1953). This shows the depths of the horror that was perpetrated in Korea for three years.

The Korean War existed as a bi product to the hegemonic struggle between the contrasting political views of communism and capitalism. The event
became the first military conflict of the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union, and it commenced on June 25th, 1950. These powers would
continue to battle through the use of surrogate wars and political propaganda. War began to change exponentially with technology, and atomic warfare

Many historians view the Korean War, or the "forgotten war," as a conflict of hegemony between the United States and the Soviet Union. This would
be the beginning to a new type of political and idealistic war. The Korean War was also America's first "limited war," meaning that the national
objective was not all–out victory (Navy History). Warfare began to link with the modern age of technology, communication, and sociological
change. This war was a "proxy war." This means that the Soviets and Americans are using a third party country as a substitute for fighting each other
directly. The Korean War became the first military conflict of the Cold War and would lead into some exponential changes in the ways of life. The
intelligence race between the US and Soviet Union would be played directly, and through indirect, political chess games of real war. The soldier
became dispensable. This would be the race for power and hegemony between the differing political positions.
Referring to the political viewpoint of the United States of America, the Korean War was deemed vital in preserving the place of democracy and
preventing the communist actions from seizing susceptible nations. Democracy was forced to show resiliency and stand for freedom, or face the
darkness of another world war. President Truman considered the employment of U.S. military forces as a police action.

However, the emphasis will be placed on the U.N./ U.S. coalition decision to cross over the 38th parallel and the subsequent Chinese decision to

In the wake of World War II the disestablishment of the European world powers led to a power vacuum. This power vacuum was filled by the two
dominant powers at the time The United States of America and the Soviet Union. The ideologies were Capitalism and Communism and they clashed
repeatedly culminating in large alliances, third world skirmishes, and diplomatic battles within the newly formed United Nations. The United Nations
though often dominated by the Super Powers of the U.S. and U.S.S.R it allowed other countries, mostly the winners of WWII, to have control and Veto

Part of the US army on July 1, came from Japan to southernmost Korea at Pusan. Soon, these troops very moving close to south of Seoul. The first

repatriation and identification of missing soldiers of the Korean War will not only gradually challenge the "forgotten" status of the Korean War, as well
as the "forgotten" status in historical researches outside the

Korean War Essays
On 26 June, one day after 90,000 North Korean troops, armed with Soviet weapons, crossed the 38th parallel to invade South Korea, President Harry
Truman directed U.S. military forces to assist South Korea. This began the Korean War, which came at a time when America was becoming more and
more fearful of Communism. The fact that Communist China and the Soviet Union were backing the North Koreans added to American fears of a
"Communist Takeover" of the world. Led by General Douglas MacArthur,American troops spent three years fighting in Korea. The war
ended in stalemate in 1953 with the North Koreans north of the 38th parallel, a border that still separates North and South Korea. When North Korea
invaded South Korea , the U.S....show more content...
It was 21/2 miles (4 kilometers) wide along the final battle line. South Korea gained about 1,500 square miles (3,880 square kilometers) of territory.
Both sides agreed not to increase their military strength. "The Forgotten War." "Police Action." TheKorean War has endured many names over time.
However, it was more importantly recognized as the first major conflict between the East and West, and an important milestone in the initial years of
the Cold War. But this war had a most devastating toll. TheKorean War was one of the bloodiest wars in history. Over a million South Korean
civilians were killed and several million were made homeless. Approximately 580,000 UN and South Korean troops and approximately 1,600,000
Communist troops were killed, wounded or reported missing. For US Forces, over 33,600 dead and almost 100,000 wounded and missing in action,
with US Air Force totals at 1,841 killed, wounded or missing in action. It's important to note that no one service claim victory over another, but all
made immeasurable contributions to the Korean War effort, with the Air Force no exception. Once again we must take this time to remember that
Freedom is Not Free and to honor our fallen heroes. Time Line up to 14 July June 25 – Early morning – North Korean People's Army under General

Communism And The Korean War

  • 1. Communism And The Korean War In the year of 1950 June 25th, It was the day when the Korean war was taken place. There was many countries involved, Powerful countries with the names of The United states, China, The United Nations, Soviet Union and The two Koreas North and South. It all started when North Korea Invaded South Korea what they seeked was power, they just wanted to make the two Koreas into one single state but, it lead to war. Many people suffered of hunger, thirst and had nowhere to go, many people indeed were scared and died. All of this was just for power and the worst thing of all is that others got involved into the war, The U.S. and the UN was with the south and China was with the North, the Soviet Union only supported the north and China to get their...show more content... The war led to many deaths and people suffering because they lacked on food or water or they just had nowhere to go at all. Another cause was that North Korea wanted to invade land but they were the ones that were unlucky because after the war South Korea had more land because of the border in the 38th parallel, so the ones that wanted to ended up losing their own land. Another cause was that the U.S. had to get involved and spent the most money they would ever spend for in many years about $67 billion. • 2. The Korean War Essay The Korean War The Korean War is often referred to as the forgotten war. There exist no monuments in Washington D.C. to acknowledge the thousands of American soldiers who fought valiantly and died for their country's political interests. There are no annual parades, and little information in text books to shed light on the war. Korea was a bloody war. The United States sustained over 140,000 casualties with 33,000 killed in action, yet the U.S. never formally honored its fallen soldiers.1 The war was another chance to indirectly overpower communism in the beginning of the Cold War. Interestingly it was fought on Asian soil through Asian politics. The lack of interest by the American public following the war reflected a national...show more content... decided that both sides of Korea should have their own elections. The elections were held on January 12, 1948.4 Since North Korea favored communism, the people elected the Russians and Kim Il Sung, a former guerrilla leader. South Korea favored democracy and formed the Republic of Korea (ROK) under U.S. educated, Dr. Sygman Rhee.5 The Soviets withdrew from North Korea in 1949. They left a communist dictatorship with a well trained, well armed, North Korean–Soviet army. In fear of the North Koreans newly developed strength, the U.S. left South Korea with some small arms and military advisors. American troops left Korea at the end of 1949.6 Both the North Koreans and the Russians wanted to overthrow South Korea to expand their empire. Above all, Russia had a chance to oppose its economic and military rival, the United States. North Korea, armed with Soviet tanks, boats, planes, and guns, planned a surprise attack across the 38th parallel into South Korea. Late Saturday evening on June 24, 1950, president Henry Truman got a urgent phone call. Truman was informed that a well organized and many pronged invasion of South Korea by the North Koreans was under way. The U.S. was obliged to defend South Korea.7 The invasion of South Korea was prompted by the Soviet Union, therefore, the invasion was a direct challenge to the United States. For many years before Korea, the U.S. and the Soviets were in competition for the number of countries backing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Korean War Pre–World War III: Korean War In this seemingly peaceful world, the Korean Peninsula has been seen as one of the hottest potatoes in the world. Many people do not acknowledge that the Korean War has not ended, but the event settled with just an armistice since the tension of the war became so intense between not only two Koreans, but other major countries such as Russia, China, and the United States. Even an armistice of the war, there still remains severe tensions in the Korean Peninsula and because of this, questions like why Korea has been the only divided country in the world and what has increased the tension between two Koreans have been brought up to historians. And to the answers to the questions about the modern Koreans is the war...show more content... There is no doubt that Korean War is influential to the both Koreas in the political side and economical side, with their ongoing conflict between each other as it may create the World War III when the armistice break between Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Causes And Effects Of The Korean War The Korean War Korea is a small country located in Asia. Its peninsula is surrounded by China to the northwest,Russia to the northeast and Japan to the east. Due to Korea's size and the location, it only made it vulnerable target for many in the East. For many years, Korea have been under control by Japan. After the defeat of Axis powers during World War II, Korea have finally liberated from Japan. The peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel as it was temporarily administered by USSR and the USA. So, how did the Korean War get started? USSR seeked communism in North Korea, which the US found dangerous since the Communist Manifesto. America was determined to hold an election to create a form of government to reunite Korea. However the negotiation did not settle the issue of divided Korea. United Nation steps in, plans to remove foreign troops and temporarily establish UN commission for Korea. Unfortunately, Soviet Union disagrees with the United Nations decision and permanently establish communism in North Korea, while South Korea are supported by the United States. The Korean War was immediately caused when Kim Il–sung, first leader of North Korea, attempts to unify Korea under his authority. The Korean War have brought impacts to many different countries that participated in the war. Korea looked devastating after the war, United States proved they are the world power, Soviet Union protected communism in North Korea, and China have developed feeling of hostility Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Nations have always had disagreements with one another and the result is the death of many young soldiers. Although many men die in war, not as many men die if the war was fought to win and not only to stop the enemy. However, the wars that have not been fought to win, but only to stop a force, have had much greater a loss than those fought to win. In the Korean War the United States did not fight to win but just to subjugate the North Korean forces that were annihilating the landscape and its people. The American troops tried to hold them off but had to retreat a little further back to escape from the tanks. By that time it was raining and their ammunition was no good along with their communications. But after some fighting it was useless against the North Korean forces so the American troops were given the order to withdraw, but some of them did not get the order and were totally consumed by the awesome power of the North Korean army. The American army withdrew to the Kum River. While they were waiting for reinforcements, General Walker came and told the troops that "if [North Koreans] come across the river, [the Americans] are to stay here and fight to the death" (A Personal Narrative of the Korean War 33). Right after General Walker had said that, he got into his jeep and sped off. Almost all the troops were either out of ammunition or low on it. The American troops held of the North Koreans for a total of seven hours. Everybody was trying to help the guy next to him the best they could against the massive enemy. How Did The Korean War Affect The Economy Impact of the Korean War on the Economy of the United States The impact of the Korean War on America's economy took place between the years 1950 to 1953. World War II had cost the United States much, much more than the Korean War, however this war did not change the structure of growth and financing in America. The Korean War lifted our GDP growth, which indicates how fast a country's economy is growing. It had this effect through government spending. When there is spending, there is less investing and consumption. Taxes had to be raised a great deal to pay for the Korean War. There were big increases in prices when the war began. By the end of the war, prices and wage controls became more stable. Through the Revenue Act of 1951,...show more content... • 7. My First Korean War I was born and raised in a Christian family in South Korea. South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world when the Korean War ended in 1953; however, the country soon faced a rapid economic growth and became one of the fastest growing countries from the early 1960s to the late 1990s. While all of my grandparents lived through the Korean War, my parents did not experience the war, but they have seen and heard the tragic ruins of what the war had left behind. Gratefully, both of my parents were raised by a Christian mother. My parents grew up admiring the hard work of their mothers and learning the integrity and faith to be the highest values. For the next about nine years, my mother had to take me to the doctor's office every month for a regular check–up; I remember that I had to miss the school on the day of my doctor visit because the hospital visit took us about 4 to 5 hours each time we travelled. Every time we went, the long travel and waiting exshuasted us, and it did not seem that there was any way to treat the disease. Additionally, I was physically weak and had awful skin allergies that made my face, arm, and legs chapped and bleed. My health had been a top concern for my parents, and they had put a lot of time and efforts to find the best treatment for me. Since my health condition was very concerning, my parents had not demanded any hard school work from me, which was not a common parenting at that time. South Korea has been famous for its education fever, and most of my friends were busy with their after school activities and studying. However, I was an exception to that life style; I did not have to go to any after school tutors or academy for extra studying; rather, I spent a lot of time on my own activities that I enjoyed, such as reading books, listening to music, and singing songs. There were millions of human casualties between soldier and civilian deaths. The War also destroyed a lot of cities and farmland. China agreed to help them because when they fought for a communist government the North Koreans sent troops to help them and China felt indebted to them. Russia was assigned to help rebuild North Korea and gave them vehicles, aircraft and a few water patrol craft. The reason North Korea was looking for allies was because they felt they would never be able to reunite Korea as a whole because South and North Korea where being led by different governments. During the course of the war, China became more involved when South Korea and its allies moved into North Korea. China had warned that if the United Nations moved into or attacked North Korea then china would attack. The United States greatly underestimated the number of Chinese that were currently in North Korea and were ready to fight. The allies of the South Koreans also made a big impact. North Korea could have easily have defeated the South Koreans if the United States and the United Nations hadn't stepped in to help. The United Nations had a group of countries supporting them that gave troops and military supplies to the South Koreans. The United States gave their large Naval force and Air Force to support them. This war was a war that showed how two sides of an issue or country could fight so fiercely and for so long and never see a clear or determined winner between the two of them. Before you move onto the next portion of this paper, let me warn you that some of the scenes that will be described, may be disturbing to you or any other readers. This war really set the tone for the rest of the Cold War, which was to be played out through the next decade. Also it demolished the economy in Korea due to all of the fighting and how it was looked down upon by most of the world. One last effect that this war had on Korea was that it lost more than 4 million people during this war and at least 2/3 of those people were civilians. In conclusion, this war was one of the bloodiest wars of the 20th century and it brought a lot of heartache to people around the world. Yes, this war demolished a lot of things but in reality it needed to be fought because without it, the fighting would be much more intense than it is today and we may have to sacrifice even more lives from our country to fight and defend for the good of others around the world. Essay on The Causes of the Korean War The Causes of the Korean War On 25th June 1950, ninety thousand North Korean soldiers invaded South Koreas border defences, The Korean war had begun, this small scale civil war would escalate into an international conflict. Historically Korea had once been a united country, under Japanese rule for between 1905 and 1945 however, the Japanese were unruly and did not treat the Koreans well. At the end of the Second World War it was decided that the country would be divided along the 38th parallel and occupied by soviet troops in the North and American troops in the South. Syngman Rhee, who had spent some years exiled in America, became the president of South Korea in 1948, while Kim Il Sung, having...show more content... The USA did not provide an air force for the South Koreans as they too did not want Syngman Rhee to abuse his advantageous position. In 1949, Mao had just led a communist government to victory in a Chinese civil war, leaving the defeated Chinese nationalists in exile on the island of Taiwan (Formosa). This precedent where the Americans failed to stop the spread of Communism resulted in criticism of Truman's apparent soft approach towards the dangers outlined in the domino theory. This may have led to questions being asked as to would the USA intervene ifNorth Korea invaded the South, Truman would now have to take a more stern and uncompromising approach to communism if he was to maintain domestic support and some may argue that the Korean support was an unnecessary token gesture to prove his vigilance and hard–line approach to communism. The Soviet Union adapted a somewhat different approach, Stalin was quite happy for there to be conflict, revolution and war in Asia as it would draw away attention from his plans of primary importance in eastern Europe, were he wanted to maintain his influence in the so called "satellite countries" such as Czechoslovakia, Poland Get more content on HelpWriting.net

After Japan was defeated by the allies in WW II., Korea became occupied by the Russians in the North and the Americans in the South. Both the U.S. and the Soviets realized that Korea was a strategic country. It was important to occupy because it lay between China, Japan, and the Soviet Union. North and South Korea were divided by the 38th parallel, it split the country into two regions. Russia and America became politically involved in Korea, each set up strong governments. The United States wanted Korea to be held under democratic rule, while the Soviets wanted communist rule. They took these conflicting views to the United Nations (UN), which had just...show more content... The struggle started as a civil war, because Kim Il Sung choose the date for the attack. The date for the attack was badly taken, because the Soviet Union was boycotting the security Council of the UN at that time (due to the fact, that a communist representative from China was not allowed to enter the council). The Soviet Union would have been able to veto any military moves against North Korea until the war was over. Unfortunately Kim Il Sung took the initiative and invaded South Korea, where a growing opposition welcomed the Northern Korean leader as a liberator and as the one, who re–united the two Koreas. After Acheson (Secretary of State) had heard of the attack, he decided that the United States should put the matter before the United Nations. He then called President Truman and got his approval. The Security Council of the United Nations decided to give arms and equipment to the Republic of Korea and it authorized General Macarthur to stabilize the combat situation with his forces. The attack was seen as a violation of international peace by the Security Council. It was necessary to repel the armed attack and regain international peace and security in the area. This was the first time that the United Nations used military intervention to maintain peace. The UN had to be interpreted in a completely different way, because it was thought to be a peacekeeping organ with peaceful means. All wars in American History fought before the Korean War were based on either national survival or the gain of territory. A strong conflict was created between the Soviet Union and the United States. From this conflict, tension was so strong that wars were fougt in the midst of this Cold War. The United States joined the war effort in order to defend their country at first, then we continued the war. The Korean and Vietnam wars were the next two wars in American History. They were not fought for either national survival or for a gain in territory. These two wars were unique in that they were fought over a belief in politics rather than the traditional reasons the United States had fought wars in the past. The Korean began in the middle of the Cold War. The war was fought as a result of North Korea invading the South. "Large movements of troops, tanks. ordnance and ammunition to the border areas were reported. This was not suspected as a threat of war because it was thought to be a normal aspect of cold war behavior;" (Ridgway, 14). When America joined the war under command of General MacArthur, they made a great push North. When they were close to the Yalu River they were orderd to stop and turn around. "United States forces were ordered to turn around when they were in visual distance of the Yalu river;" (Knox, 439). • 13. The Korean War Research Essay Samiah Williams Mrs. Mackey CP History II/Period 2 May 13, 2015 The Korean War Research Essay Often times, two groups of people cannot share land in result of their differences, despite their similarities. In most cases, there's always going to be that one group, if not both, who have an overwhelming lust for power and control. A lust so great that it enables them to go to extreme measures to fulfil their desires regardless of what ramifications may arise. An event in history much like what's described is the Korean War. A civil war within a country ironically turns into a Cold War for the rest of the world. The Korean War was initiated when Kim Il–sung commenced a surprise attack on South Korea after wrongly assuming the South would willingly undergo Kim Il–sung's dictatorship. The attack took place at dawn on June 25, 1950. In as little as three days, the communist forces captured the South Korean capital and occupied most of the country. This invasion may have been a shocker to the South, but the North was preparing years in advance for it. The North received training from the Soviet Union (USSR) alongside the with Chinese and were supplied weaponry. The USSR's involvement with the attack was imperative to their success. Joseph Stalin–– leader of the USSR at the time–– was initially against the infiltration of the South due to his fear of The United States getting involved and declaring a paramount war on the South 's behalf. Fought to prevent the spread of communism in Korea, the Korean War was a bold political victory for the United States because America sent a clear message to the entire world, as it was the first military action of the Cold War, that the spread of communism will not be tolerated by the strongest military in the world, the United States. In addition, the Korean War was an economic benefit for the United States due to the increase of military spending and preserved the freedom of the South Korean people. Also, I witnessed a South Korean mass execution of civilians suspected of having helped the communists. Korea was a mess" ("The Forgotten War Remembered: Korea, 1950–1953). The event became the first military conflict of the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union, and it commenced on June 25th, 1950. These powers would continue to battle through the use of surrogate wars and political propaganda. Many historians view the Korean War, or the "forgotten war," as a conflict of hegemony between the United States and the Soviet Union. This would be the beginning to a new type of political and idealistic war. The Korean War was also America's first "limited war," meaning that the national objective was not all–out victory (Navy History). Warfare began to link with the modern age of technology, communication, and sociological change. This war was a "proxy war." This means that the Soviets and Americans are using a third party country as a substitute for fighting each other directly. The Korean War became the first military conflict of the Cold War and would lead into some exponential changes in the ways of life. The intelligence race between the US and Soviet Union would be played directly, and through indirect, political chess games of real war. The soldier became dispensable. This would be the race for power and hegemony between the differing political positions. Referring to the political viewpoint of the United States of America, the Korean War was deemed vital in preserving the place of democracy and preventing the communist actions from seizing susceptible nations. Democracy was forced to show resiliency and stand for freedom, or face the darkness of another world war. President Truman considered the employment of U.S. military forces as a police action. • 16. The point of this section of the paper is to provide a brief summary and overview of The Korean War. This will set the stage for the rest of the paper and provide a wealth of background which will be drawn from periodically. This paper will give an overview of the war as a whole, but the earlier explanations of the causes and U.N. decision to partake provide important details on the justification for Chinese intervention and U.S. restraint. However, the emphasis will be placed on the U.N./ U.S. coalition decision to cross over the 38th parallel and the subsequent Chinese decision to intervene in the war. In the wake of World War II the disestablishment of the European world powers led to a power vacuum. This power vacuum was filled by the two dominant powers at the time The United States of America and the Soviet Union. The ideologies were Capitalism and Communism and they clashed repeatedly culminating in large alliances, third world skirmishes, and diplomatic battles within the newly formed United Nations. The United Nations though often dominated by the Super Powers of the U.S. and U.S.S.R it allowed other countries, mostly the winners of WWII, to have control and Veto power in arguably the most important section the Security Council. It was within this newly formed bipolar international system, with a bias to WWII winners, that The Korean War was made possible. Korean War Thesis Thank you very much for all of your constructive and detailed critiques made my seminar paper "The Repatriation and Identification of Missing U.S. Soldiers in the Korean War after 1954". These critiques reveal some serious flaws in my first version. In order to improve the paper in its second version, I am planning to make the following revisions according to your precious comments. I will also expand the article in two directions: 1) remove the time limit of 1954 and expand it into the repatriation and identification of soldiers during the Korean War; 2) include a small section about such practices adopted by Americans' primary enemy in Korea–––China. The conclusion may begin with a short paragraph anticipating the future progress of the repatriation and identification of the soldiers' bodies, as well as suggestions of the next moves of the officials and scientists. This part has already been included in my current article but it will be moved to the conclusion section. Following the anticipation is the summary of the narrations in technology, diplomacy, as well as the actions outside the States Department and the Defense Department. I will stress the linkage between each part of my story with the respective groups of literature in historiography. The U.S.–Korea diplomacy part will be placed into the studies of politics of dead bodies. The identification through advanced forensic tools will be directed to the historiography of the individualized and collective commemoration of wars and atrocities. The stories of family members, veteran organizations, or statesmen, which will be substantiated with the new sources acquired in this summer, will be placed vis–Г –vis the grassroots activities and political influence during the search for missing soldiers in the Vietnam War. I will ensure that the links between these themes and the war commemoration are clearly emphasized in the article. At last, I will most likely (my sources have not indicated otherwise) to suggest that the repatriation and identification of missing soldiers of the Korean War will not only gradually challenge the "forgotten" status of the Korean War, as well as the "forgotten" status in historical researches outside the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Korean War Essays On 26 June, one day after 90,000 North Korean troops, armed with Soviet weapons, crossed the 38th parallel to invade South Korea, President Harry Truman directed U.S. military forces to assist South Korea.
