Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize (Szalavitz & Perry, 2010).Empathy underlies everything
that makes society work; such as altruism, collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime,
violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for others, the development of empathy requires a

The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one's own mental competence in order to react (or not) to the affective
states of others (Decety & Meyer, 2010).
This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical models, but to summarize research findings about what
contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we will focus on infants' early social interactions. We focus on imitation,emotion matching, and emotional
contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes
reciprocal responsiveness in the infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants' abilities to discriminate
emotions. Responses to other people's displays of emotion are discussed and associated with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its
development. While there is little research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies of infant
behaviour and neurospscyhology studies.

Personal Narrative: Empathy at the End of Life I've always considered empathy and inherent trait that everyone just has. Sharing peoples' feelings
and emotions was how I connected with people even in my early life. I internalize the feelings of those around me and often find myself
experiencing the hurt of the whole world. I sort of assumed that is the way everyone else experienced the world until I had a real conversation with
my mom and learned that wasn't the case. I was what my parents called, extra "sensitive" to all my surroundings including the emotions of those

Most benefits that we humans receive and or give come from things we do everyday. If the saying goes that each action has a consequence, it would
also mean that every action has a benefit. Some of those actions consist of helping others or showing empathy towards others. This idea of actions

The strengths currently value the most lie in my ability to empathize, compartmentalize, and work hard. Empathy is part of what makes us human,
and I see it as one of the most necessary parts to successfully working with clients. This position has been reaffirmed through each of my courses
which have explored how we work with people. Examining how our presence and style effects how clients can see us and the impact empathy has on

Research Article Review In the research article, "Empathizing with Other Peoples' Pain Versus Empathizing with Others' Joy: Examining THE
Separability of Positive and Negative Empathy and Their Relation to Different Types of Social Behaviors and Social Emotions," researchers Michael
Andreychik and Nicole Migliaccio examine both positive and negative empathy, the effect both have on an individual and the distinct capacities that
each have on different types of social behaviors. Researchers deliver a series of questionnaires to participants, expecting that "Positive and negative
empathy represent distinct–albeit related–constructs that predict different types of social behaviors and social emotions" (Andreychik, & Migliaccio,
2015, para 2). The main goal of the research is to observe if there is a difference between positive empathy and negative empathy. Furthermore,
researchers study the effects of positive empathy, its affect socially, and emotionally on individuals. Methodology The Researchers test five separate
hypothesis, on 597 different individuals including men and women of varying ages were recruited from an online participant management system
called the, "Mechanical Turk Online." Each participant was given a small monetary compensation for their participation in the research. In all three
studies, after providing researchers with written consent, the participants proceeded to fill out questionnaires online. The researchers arranged three

Reflection On Empathy
The introduction and initial contact when really well. The client as well as I were truly engaged in every statement or question. Of courses the first
few minutes were a little rough but once I understood where she was trying to go with her situation it was fine. I ask the client if I could record her
so that I could make sure I do not miss anything for the assignment and she allowed me to record the session. This was very helpful because the
session was very informative, so with that much information I probably wouldn't have been able to retain everything. My level of empathy was very
high. I actually related to her situation when it comes to a father leaving the family and there's very little that you can do. Knowing that I understood
her struggles and feelings, I immediately told myself to be strictly professional and not to get emotional as well.
There was an over use of probing questions and not enough empathic responses. I think this goes back to me trying not to get emotional as well while

Professor Paul Bloom states he is against empathy. He believes it is wrongfully used in our society and should not be used in certain situations. He

Empathy is the ability to understand and experience the feelings of others, particularly others' suffering. Humanity's gift of understanding complex

one strong notion: Does empathy guide or hinder moral action? One common misconception while considering empathetic influence is how it
compares with sympathy. The two are a dichotomy, and must be differentiated. To sympathize is to feel sorry for someone, therefore making the victim
