3. EXPERIENCE SHIFT Our experience shift was “Physical”. We explored several routes of thought to incorporate this element into Monopoly. We focused on two ‘main’ ideas to enhance the game experience in this way.
4. FIRST IDEA Our first idea was to change the physical elements of the existing game board, by changing the scale. The board measured at 11x11 meters.
5. FIRST IDEA We found this idea to be impractical due to the size – it could only be played outside, and would have a long set up time. We also found that the pieces would be impossible to store.
6. FINAL IDEA For our final concept we decided to remove the physical element of the board entirely. We have instead replaced it with the entire world.
7. FINAL IDEA We decided to create an iPhone application similar to other location based apps. (Foursquare, Gowalla, AroundMe) These apps use your phone’s GPS to find your location in relation to a map, and we are going to use the same technology in our game.
8. FINAL IDEA It’s based on the idea that the places around you are the locations on the board. And you play as your piece. Creating a physical game experience.
9. FINAL IDEA To make the game more ‘app friendly’ we changed some features of the game: Time limited turns. Random chance cards. Board Size.
10. STORY BOARD The following images show us ‘play testing’ our game changes. Our actual play testing was done with a “simulated app” aka. Charlie with a pen and paper, following the players around.
