Associate Professor in the department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering, Multimedia

to Senior lecturer in July 2012 and then to Associate Professor in December 2015. I am also an adjunct
Professor in the department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering, Technical University of
Kenya (TUK).

i) Nov 2016 – June 2017: Consultancy to review CAP YEI ten curricula to be in line with the
CBET approach; develop TOT manuals for their staff and train them.
ii) June 2015 – Jan. 2016: Developed curricula for Training of technical trainers (including their
Principals) in TVET Institutions; the training modules include an overview of Competence
Based Education and Training (CBET), Development of Occupational Standards using
DACUUM and Task Analysis approach, Design and Development of Curricula using
Occupational Standards, Development of Assessment Tools, Curriculum delivery methods,
Competence Assessment and Competence Certification. Presently I with a team of experts in
CBET am conducting the training for various trainers all over the country.
iii) 2014-2015: Developed curricula for Bachelor and Master degrees in Mechanical Engineering
Technology; and Bachelor and Master degrees in Engineering Management programmes at
Multimedia University of Kenya.
iv) 2011-2014: Participated in the development of curricula for Bachelor and Master degrees in
Mechanical and Mechatronics programmes at Multimedia University of Kenya.
v) 2010 -2012: Participated in the development of curricula for Bachelor of Philosophy in
mechanical technology, Bachelor of Mechanical Technology and Master of Technology in
Mechanical and Mechatronics programmes at Technical University of Kenya (TUK).
vi) 2003: Participated in the development of curriculum for MSc degree in Industrial Engineering
and Management at the department of Industrial Energy Engineering and Manufacturing at

vii) 2002: Developed of curriculum for Bridging course for to enable Higher Diploma holders to
enrol for an MSc degree in Industrial Engineering and Management at the department of
Industrial Energy Engineering and Manufacturing at Egerton University; again this was the
first such programme in Kenya
viii) 2001: Developed of curriculum for Bachelor of Industrial Engineering (BIT), the first
programme in Kenya to allow Diploma graduates upward mobility, at Egerton University.
e) Research
More than 20 years of research experience at University level in Mechanical Engineering and
Engineering Management as follows:
i) August 2018 to March 2019: Research on the validation of Life Skills with employers in Kenya; the
project was sponsored by Master Card Foundation of Canada through CAP YEI.
ii) July 2017 to March 2018: YouMatch project on the integration of Life Skills in TVET curriculum,
case study of ten VTCs in Kenya. The research project was to investigate the impact of life skills on
the youth. It was sponsored by GIZ, Germany to the tune of € 75,000. The findings were disseminated
to eight YouMatch participating African countries, and at the CIES International Conference in
Mexico City.
iii) Sept 2009 to Oct 2012: PhD research project at Open University of Tanzania (OUT) –
Investigation into the Effects of Education, Training and Business Location on Product
Quality;
iv) I have supervised several undergraduate students and seven (7) post graduate students to
completion e.g. one PhD students and six Masters’ Students
v) Currently I am Supervising one PhD student at TUK and four (4) Master of Engineering
Technology (MTech) degree students at Technical University of Kenya (TUK), and four (2)
Master of Science (MSc) degree students at Multimedia University (MMU) of Kenya
vi) Consultancy research project-
o 1st
August 2018 to 31st
March 2019: Joint project by CAP YEI of Kenya, MasterCard
Foundation of Canada and TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification
Council (CDACC) of Kenya; to validate Life Skills with employers (to find out whether
life skills are useful to employers and how. This consultancy project was funded by the
MasterCard Foundation up to US $ 48,000.
o June 2018 – August 2018: Consultancy to develop training materials for adult learners
with the following objectives: i) Develop a competence based education and training
(CBET)TOT manual; ii) Develop a competence based education and training (CBET)
competence standards (occupational standards); and iii) Develop a Competence
Assessment Framework and Guidelines; This was a consultancy project for ATVET Kenya
Office sponsored by GIZ KES 2,419,500/=
o July 2017 to March 2018: YouMatch project on the integration of Life Skills in TVET
curriculum, case study of ten VTCs in Kenya. The research project was to investigate the
impact of life skills on the youth. It was sponsored by GIZ, Germany to the tune of €
75,000. The findings were disseminated at two international Conferences – one in Mexico
City and another on in Sydney City, and to eight YouMatch participating African
countries.
o July 2014 to Oct 2014: Research study project worth USD 40,000 on the long-term impact
of age limits of used imported motor vehicles on trade in the East Africa Community
(EAC), and the relationship between the age limit, environmental pollution, safety and
health of people, fuel consumption efficiency, social well-being, economic activities,
technological and industrial developments in East Africa Community (EAC);
o July 2013 to Sept 2014: Evaluation research study project worth KES 5 million on the
Constituency Development Fund (CDF) by Ministry of Devolution and Planning Kenya;

o UNDP funded research project on micro-gasification technology supply of clean,
modern, affordable and reliable bioenergy to rural households and institutions in Kenya
worth Euros 200,000 for 18 months,
o Finnish Government sponsored research project through Energy and Environment
Partnership Programme (EEP-S&EA) for generation of decentralized electricity for
rural communities using forestry and agricultural residues and Downdraft Imbert
Modified gasifier worth Euros 85,000 for 24 months;

ix) Sept 1982 to Dec 1984: MSc study at Manchester University (UMIST) – Plastic collapse and
energy absorption of thin walled tubes made of a ductile material in transverse bending during

e) 2011: Developed to conclusion the Institution of Engineering Technologists and Technicians
Constitution to full registration; I am presently the Honourable Treasurer of the Institution.
f) May 2011: I finished writing a project proposal on Youth Lead Program (2011 – 2014) – a
UNICEF Project on behalf of Plan International South Sudan.
g) Aug. 2011: SME FUND and the Financial Inclusion of the Informal Sector (FIIS)
h) April 2003 appointed as Consultant by the Private Sector Forum to review the Draft Micro and
Small Enterprise (MSE) Paper of December 2001 to be part of the inputs to the Sessional Paper
No. 2 of 2005 on MSE.

i) 2011: I wrote a Strategic Plan and Business Plan for the Micro and Small Enterprises
Federation (MSEF); contracted by CIPE of USA through Kenya Gatsby Trust.
ii) May 2010: I finished writing a project proposal to be funded by CIDA worth US$ 5
million on TVET on behalf of Plan International South Sudan intended to rehabilitate
technical and vocational training institutions in South Sudan and assist in offering technical
and vocational skills to the many young people in South Sudan.
iii) July 2010 – Nov. 2010: Monitoring & Evaluation of a JICA–JKUAT in-country Training
Programme at JKUAT for JFY 2010. The training programme was on “Strengthening the
Capacity of Grassroots Women Leaders for Wealth Creation and Socio-Economic
Development”.
iv) July 2010: Contracted by Kenya Gatsby Trust (KGT) to train the Board Members of Micro
and Small Enterprises Federation (MSEF) on Strategic Planning.
v) April 2008 – Jan. 2009: Developed a Five year Strategic Plan for Nyaribari Chache
Constituency.
vi) Nov. 2007 – Jan. 2009: Carried out a study on the Industrial Training Levy Scheme, this
included restructuring of the Directorate of Industrial Training, revision of the Industrial
Training Act Cap 237, and revision of the Industrial Training Scheme
vii) Feb.2006: An Ex-Ante Evaluation and Project Formulation Study on Trade Training
Programme for SME Exporters in Kenya.
viii) July – October 2006: A study, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, on
Trade Facilitation Needs Assessment for the trade facilitation implementing agencies in
Kenya.
ix) In May 2006: Carried out an Audit of the Implementation of Trade Facilitation
Measures in Kenya to establish the readiness of Kenya to implement some of the key
provisions as suggested by World Trade Organization (WTO).
x) In August 2005: I participated in the Focus Group Discussions (FGD) for the African Peer
Review Mechanism (APRM) of NEPAD in Gucha and Siaya Districts in Nyanza Province,
and drafted the report.
xi) In Oct – Nov 2003: I finished an Ex-post Evaluation of JKUAT undergraduate program –
a JICA project.
xii) In March 2002: I finished a Monitoring & Evaluation of a JICA sponsored Third Country
Training Program at JKUAT.
