QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD degree on Engineering Management from Open University of Tanzania (OUT),
MSc in Mechanical Engineering from UMIST - Manchester University UK,
Advanced Studies Certificate in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University UK,
Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Kenya, and
Certificate in Technical Teacher Training from Kenya.
Prof. Ondieki is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at
Multimedia University (MMU) of Kenya. He is the National Chairperson-Technical and Vocational
Education and Training, Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET
CDACC) (October 2014–to Date). He is also the Overall University (MMU) Industrial Training and
attachment Coordinator (April 2013 – to Date), and doubles as the Faculty Coordinator for the Post
Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology for the past three years. Prof. Ondieki
has also served the Multimedia University as a member of the Students Appeals Committee (2013-
2016) and a member of the disposal committee (2011-2012).
Prof Ondieki also lectures in the department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering, Technical
University of Kenya as an Adjunct Associate Professor.
In both MMU and TUK, Prof. Ondieki lectures in Terotechnology and Reliability Engineering,
Applied Mechanics and Maintenance Engineering at both undergraduate and post graduate
courses. He has carried out many research projects in engineering and life skills. He has also
supervised undergraduate and post graduate students to completion. He has published seven
books (four of them in Engineering) and more than fourteen papers with reputable international
Journals.
Prof. Ondieki was educated at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology
(UMIST) England (MSc 1985) and at the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania
(PhD 2012); Investigation into the Effects of Education, Training and Business Location on Product
Quality. Prof. Ondieki has supervised a PhD Student at OUT (2016), and he is currently supervising
one other PhD student on “Investigating The Factors That Contribute to The Poor Performance in
Manufacturing Sector in Kenya” at Technical University of Kenya (TUK). Prof. Ondieki has also
supervised to completion six MSc students: two at Egerton University (2010), two at Technical
University of Kenya (2018) and two at Multimedia University (2019).
Currently Prof. Ondieki is supervising three (3) Master of Engineering Technology (MTech) degree
students at Technical University of Kenya (TUK), and Two (2) Master of Science (MSc) degree students
at Multimedia University (MMU) of Kenya.
Prof. Ondieki has developed curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering degrees courses;
he has also developed Competency-Based curricula for TVET courses in Kenya.
Prof. Ondieki has undertaken Consultancy on the following research projects:

March 2019: Joint project by CAP YEI of Kenya, MasterCard Foundation
of Canada and TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) of
2. Kenya; to validate Life Skills with employers (to find out whether life skills are useful to employers
and how. This consultancy project is being funded by the MasterCard Foundation upto US $ 48,000.
o June 2018 – August 2018: Consultancy to develop training materials for adult learners with the
following objectives: i) Develop a competence based education and training (CBET) TOT manual;
ii) Develop a competence based education and training (CBET) competence standards (occupational
standards); and iii) Develop a Competence Assessment Framework and Guidelines; This was a
consultancy project for ATVET Kenya Office sponsored by GIZ KES 2,419,500/=
o July 2017 to March 2018: YouMatch project on the integration of Life Skills in TVET curriculum,
case study of ten VTCs in Kenya. The research project was to investigate the impact of life skills
on the youth. It was sponsored by GIZ, Germany to the tune of € 75,000. The findings were
disseminated at two international Conferences – one in Mexico City and another on in Sydney City,
and to eight YouMatch participating African countries.
o July 2014 to Oct 2014: Research study project worth USD 40,000 on the long-term impact of age
limits of used imported motor vehicles on trade in the East Africa Community (EAC), and the
relationship between the age limit, environmental pollution, safety and health of people, fuel
consumption efficiency, social well-being, economic activities, technological and industrial
developments in East Africa Community (EAC);
o July 2013 to Sept 2014: Evaluation research study project worth KES 5 million on the Constituency
Development Fund (CDF) by Ministry of Devolution and Planning Kenya;
i) July 2010 – Sept 2013: Renewal energy study with KEFRI –
o UNDP funded research project on micro-gasification technology supply of clean, modern,
affordable and reliable bioenergy to rural households and institutions in Kenya worth Euros
200,000 for 18 months,
o Finnish Government sponsored research project through Energy and Environment Partnership
Programme (EEP-S&EA) for generation of decentralized electricity for rural communities
using forestry and agricultural residues and Downdraft Imbert Modified gasifier worth Euros
85,000 for 24 months;
Prof. Ondieki is a
i) Board member of the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) (October
2016 –to Date).
ii) Board member of the Institution of Engineering Technologists and Technicians where he is the
Honourable Treasurer (2011- to Date).
