Career Summary
December2014 – Present West Phoenix,Semi-Sub DrillingRig
Motorman/ Engine Room Operator
I am currently employed as a Motorman/ Engine Room Operator on the West Phoenix Semi-Sub Drilling Rig. The
West Phoenix is one of the most advanced rigs at the moment. The vessel is DP Class 3 and has eight Wartsilla V12
main engines supplying 34854KW to eight Rolls Royceazimuth thrusters. My roll on the rig involvesthe safe
planning and execution of various maintenance workin all aspects and areas of the machinery space as according
to the planned maintenance schedule.
In addition, I have a role in:
i) Eachwatch wouldlast for12 hours consisting of a complete rounds of the machinery space as well as
operating and answering any alarms from the vessels Kongsberg control system
ii) Normal working day would involveplanned maintenance, housekeeping and maintaining the engines,
thrusters and auxiliary systems which consist of 3 boilers, 2 fresh water generators an oily water separator
and all safety systems.
iii) Unplanned reactive maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment and systems.
iv) Bunkering of fuel, pot water etc. from the supply vessel

Previouscontract as a third engineer officeron the Royal Research Ship Discovery.Ihad the responsibility of my
own watchand carry out the duties required forthe safe and efficientoperation of the machinery spaces. The
vessel has four Wartsilla main engines supplying 2600KW of powerto two propulsion thrusters.
In addition, I have a role in:
i) Planned routine maintenance of the vessel’s mechanical machinery, hydraulic & pneumatic
systems, hotel services, lifeboats, etc.
ii) Unplanned reactive maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment and systems.
iii) Loading and discharging fuel and bulk cargo to and from shore side and from a barge.
iv) General workshopwork including fabricating and welding
v) Eachwatch wouldlast for24 Hours and would consist of Engine Room walk rounds ensuring the
normal operation of all machinery and answering alarms during any UMS period.
Feb 2014 – June 2014 RRS James Cook; National OceanographyCentre
Motorman
Temporary contractas Motorman on the Royal Research Ship James Cook. I had the responsibility of ensuring the
engine room is clean and tidy to ensure safe workfor any maintenance. I assisted the engineers with any
maintenance works being carried out. The ship had four Wartsilla main engines supplying two 2500KW
propulsion motors.
In addition, I had a role in:
i) Assisting Engineers with all planned routine maintenance of the vessel’s mechanical machinery,
hydraulic & pneumatic systems, hotel services, lifeboats, etc.
ii) General workshopactivities.
iii) Assisted withBunker procedure and ensured safe transfer.
iv) During this contract I was studying for my oral exam and assisted the engineers as much as possible
when on watch.
