2. The revolution and conflicts in Syria began in 2011, conflicts
that have unleashed the worst humanitarian crisis in the
world in recent years.
The current situation of the country and the refugee conditions
in neighboring countries get worse every day.
3. The refugees flee to the neighboring countries first
(Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon), but later, when
these countries are saturated, the migratory flow
looks for more distant countries (Europe).
4. The global forced displacements in the 21st century, during
the period 2000-2014, have been increasing, oscillating
around the figure of 40 million in terms of refugees and
asylum seekers, as well as between the figures of 20 and 30
million in reference to internally displaced persons.
5. As a result of these last oscillations, the European Union has
suffered the formation of different fractures within it and of
diverse nature - political, economic and identity - as a
consequence of certain external and internal phenomena that
have influenced it. The wars of Libya and Ukraine, but also Syria,
have produced a considerable increase in the forced migrations
to the EU.
7. The different wars, such as those of Libya and Syria, with
antecedents in Iraq, caused a spectacular and uncontrolled increase
towards the EU, leading to the creation or deepening of a series of
fractures within it; from the policies to the economic ones.
8. The Syrian population has been reduced to about 16.6
million, when before the beginning of the conflict there
were about 22 million inhabitants in the Arab country.
