4. Excuses for Expansion
The Monroe Doctrine (1823): the Western Hemisphere was no longer to be colonized by European
Powers
Mexican-American War (1846): Westward Expansion, gaining Arizona,California, Colorado, Nevada, New
Mexico, Utah and Wyoming
WWI (1917): The war of empire building, joined to suppress the Bolshevik Revolution and went to war
over the German ‘Zimmerman Telegram’
WWII (1941): Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, US soldiers join WWII. Split Germany up into 4 sectors, later
combining French, British and US sections against the one Soviet bloc
Cold War (~1947): War against the ideology of Communism, therefore making all non-aligned, socialist
and communist states pawns of the USSR and enemies to the US
Eisenhower Doctrine (1957): Middle Eastern countries could request U.S. economic or military assistance
The War on Terror (2001): Post-9/11, the US began looking to the Middle East for further global reach
6. U.S. Interference in Foreign Elections
Since 1946, the U.S. has interfered in the elections of:
Albania, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Greece,
Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Iceland, Indonesia, Iran, Israel.Palestine, Italy, Jamaica, Japan,
Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Nepal, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Romania,
Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uruguay
Former Countries: West Germany, South Vietnam, Czechoslovakia, former-Yugoslavia (44 countries
definite, estimated 81 total)
11% of elections worldwide since 1946 have been influenced by either Russia or
the U.S.; of that 11%, 70% were committed by the United States.

7. International Crimes of the U.S. Military
-Rape of Japan (1945): In their 10-day occupation of Kanagawa Prefecture, 1,336 women came forward
about being raped by the U.S. soldiers stationed there
-No Gun Ri Massacre (1950): The killing of approx. 163 innocent South Korean refugees
-The My Lai Massacre (1968): gang rape and slaying of between 347-500 unarmed Vietnamese Civilians
-Torture at Abu Grahib (2003): U.S./CIA commit physical, emotional and mental torture on suspected
terrorists (sodomy, rape, sexual abuse and murder, among other acts)
-The Drone Papers (2015): The Intercept reports that according to U.S. documentation, due to “spotty”
intelligence, over a 5-month period between 2012-2013, the U.S. drone-striking only hit the intended target
10% of the time, meaning 90% of those killed were innocent
8. According to the Department of Defense
As of June 2017, the US has 199,005 members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps,
Air Force and Coast Guard stationed in 180 countries. There are currently 193
countries recognized by the UN, not including the Holy See and the State of
Palestine (meaning the Gaza Strip and the West Bank). This means that the
United States Military is currently stationed in 92% of the countries worldwide, not
including U.S. itself

9. Why this Matters
-Global Research estimates that since WWII the U.S. has been responsible for 20-
30 million deaths in at least 37 sovereign nations
-In the conquest of spreading ‘freedom and democracy’, the U.S. Government has
overthrown at least 9 democratically elected leaders (Mossadegh, Arbenz,
Velasco, Lumumba, Bosch, Goulart, Sukarno, Allende, and Whitlam) since 1953
-We are refusing to recognize the sovereignty of other Nations across the world
-The 2017 U.S. Military Budget exceeds $700B (this is paid for through our taxes)

10. How Asinine the 2017 “Defense Budget” is:
World Hunger:
In 2015, the Food and Agriculture Organization held a study citing $267B annually would immediately end
hunger worldwide.
-$116B on food/distribution, $75B going to rural areas; $151B needed to fund irrigation, infrastructure and
credit facilities.
Tuition-free Higher Education in the U.S.:
Bernie Sanders’s “tuition free” program would cost the U.S. an estimated $70B annually
Housing the Homeless in the U.S.:
It would cost $20B annually to eliminate homelessness in the U.S.
11. Personal Suggestions
Advocate for H.R. 1947- 115th Congress (Rep John Lewis)
Terminate membership to either major corporate party
Stop paying Federal Taxes (this is illegal)
Speak out against US imperialism (ex. Syria, North Korea, Africa)
Join Veterans For Peace
Talk about the costs of war whenever possible
Establish sit-ins, teach-ins, attend protests, join a peace organization, CARE
