This document describes a design for piezoelectric energy harvesting floor tiles. Piezoelectric crystals like PZT are able to convert mechanical energy from stress and strain into electrical energy. The design presents a floor tile prototype that uses PZT crystals to generate electricity from vibrations caused by foot traffic. The tile design was modeled and tested using ProEngineer and Ansys software to evaluate stress levels. The final design sandwiches PZT discs between foam layers in a wooden housing to maximize vibrations and energy generation when stepped on. Test results showed the tiles can successfully harness mechanical energy from footsteps to produce electricity.
