Visual Vs. Verbal
• Messages are displayed through photos, YouTube
videos, Movies, magazines, cartoons, Meme’s, and
more.
• What is the author’s purpose on these magazine
covers?
• Men’s health is promoting the perfect body image as
being lean with high def abs. It is also promoting
sex.
• Seventeen is promoting ways a girl can look hot at
any party.
• The media is constantly telling women and men
how they should look.
4. VISUAL VS. VERBAL
• Visual Media Message: YouTube videos, Movie
Ad, Magazine cover, Billboard, News Ad, etc.
• These messages are very effective because
people are so visual. They are attracted by the
images and last longer in your short term and
sometimes long term memory.
• Verbal Media Message: Magazine cover, the
article in the magazine, a written news article,
a radio ad, a jingle etc.
• These messages are effective because they
enhance the visual message. They are often
times are used to be informal.
