Sharing know-how is important. Even more so in the cultural heritage management sector, strongly affected by budget cuts. Optimising assessment procedures and reducing risks in museums can surely positively affect budget allocation. Rome's Visual Arts Research and Documentation Centre has often provided management and preventive conservation consultancy services on an international level. These two letters (both are in Italian) were written on 23 July 2008 by the then Head of UNESCO Office in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Architect Anna Paolini. The first one was directed to Rome's Deputy Mayor in charge of Cultural Heritage, Dr. Umberto Croppi. The second one - carrying a more in-depth description of the requested workshop ("Risks and Opportunities: Difficult Challenges for Museum Professionals") was sent to the present Head of Documentary Services at the Visual Arts Research and Documentation Centre (CRDAV) at MACRO Contemporary Art Museum, Dr. Alessandro Califano. This workshop took place from 17 to 19 September 2008, with preparatory work been done from 12 September and a follow-up on the 22nd of the same month. It has been the second workshop lead by Dr. Califano in Uzbekistan (the first one having taken place in June 2008).
