A CENTENARY WAR SHIP WAS IDENTIFIED ON THE COAST OF
ENGLAND.
WIND FARM DEVELOPERS WERE EXPLORING THE SEABED
OFF THE COAST OF NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK, WHEN ITS
SONAR DETECTED AN UNUSUALLY LARGE OBJECT, ABOUT 90
KILOMETERS FROM THE COAST. IT WAS IN SEPTEMBER
2012.
"WE WERE LOOKING FOR SHIPWRECKS, BUT WHAT WE
FOUND WAS A HUGE DISASTER THAT DID NOT APPEAR ON
EITHER LIST," SAID TERI NICKLIN, ENERGY COMPANY
SCOTTISH POWER’S RENEWABLES. THE SUBMARINE WAS
AN UNKNOWN MYSTERY.
The energy company notified the authorities and
the Royal Netherlands Navy, I was looking for a
Dutch military submarine that disappeared in
June 1940, when the crew patrolling the waters
between Denmark and Norway.
It took about four years to identify their origin due
to sea conditions, which made it impossible to see
the submarine. In recent months, the Dutch Navy
divers they succeeded: a U-31, a German
submarine of World War II.
It is believed that the U-31 was destroyed by a
mine off the coast of England and sunk with all its
crew of four officers and 31 men, said marine
archaeologist Mark Dunkley.English waters will be
the final resting place of the submarine, but the
authorities try to contact the German families who
may have had relatives on the boat, Nicklin said.
