Out of the topics covered in this course, the decision–making process was the most important for me. During this lecture, I found myself agreeing with
a lot of the material covered and also learned some new things about myself. The decision–making process enables us to evaluate a situation, process
the information given, and determine a course of action to take. Whether if it's in the workplace, school, or in our personal life, we will face all
kinds of choices each day. Every decision we make will have an effect on the outcome of our future. In my own personal life, I go through simple
decisions like determining what to wear, which route to take to school, and what to eat that day. Most of my daily decisions are made
instantaneously but in some cases, like group projects, I have to put more effort into my thinking process. In class, I learned that from a
managerial point of view, they make more important decisions such as hiring or firing someone, deciding who will be in charge of a project, and
deciding if they should launch a new product line. In general, having good decision making skills is a benefit because then others will also have
trust in our abilities. When we make decisions, it is common for us to make our judgements based on information that is more available in our

Leonard has been working within his current department for almost 11 years now. Very respected by others in his department, he was asked if he
had thought about applying for a management position that was open at the time. To Leonard, there was not much thought to put into making the
decision because of the knowledge that he had already obtained from his past manager and of that manager's experiences. For a manager, there is
no longer just an eight hour working day five days a week but 24 hours a day seven days a week, instead. Leonard knew of his past manager's
experiences of being awaken in the middle of the night to join conference calls that were believed to only take 30 minutes to complete, but ended up
being two hours. Those type things happened quite often to Leonard's manager so when the opportunity was presented for Leonard to apply for the
management position, he declined. Working a full– time job, going to school full–time, and maintaining a family was presently already enough stress
for Leonard to maintain, so the decision to decline the position

A responsibility of the engineer of record is to identify without ambiguity the objectives of the project and potential unexpected and surprising
outcomes. Before decisions can be made by the engineer of record, an unambiguous understanding of the objectives must be constructed. A case in
point was the two barriers proposed by the Corps of Engineers between the east end of Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi (Heiberg 2007).
These barriers would have closed when a flood surge threatened New Orleans and surroundings. This was an advocacy stance by the Corps. This
shows that the right decisions were made in case of emergency. A contrary stance was taken by Save Our Wetlands, Inc. in the role of protecting
environmental features that would have been threatened by the use of the barriers. The decision maker has both responsibilities and also an
obligation to behave responsibly. Any decision has associated responsibilities and Klein (1995) suggests four: causal responsibility, legal
responsibility, moral responsibility and role responsibility. Responsibility is a big factor towards making a decision. Often, many people are involved
