Christian Environmental Ethics
Research Essay: 20876077 Through the study of scripture, Christian movements and the views of historical and contemporary figures, it can be said
that Christian ethical teachings have a significant influence on the lives of its adherents. A prime example of the effects of these teachings is the nature
and practice of Christian environmental ethics. The Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy defines environmental ethics as the discipline in philosophy
that studies the moral relationship of human beings to, and also the value and moral status of, the environment and its nonhuman contents. Although
each denomination has its own unique manner of judging ethical understanding, the basic and fundamental structures of their environmental...show

The passage of John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" emphasises the importance of animals in the
hierarchy of creation and Christian's responsibility to protect and care for them. The issue of Deforestation has been high on the global environmental
agenda for many years, and remains a serious problem today. In the tropics and many other parts of the world, nations continue to lose the valuable
biodiversity, soil and water conservation, and climate regulation that natural forests provide. Christianity can only address this matter by continuing to
combine an acceptance of the command to people to 'multiply and replenish the earth' (Genesis 1:28) with a balancing injunction to act as stewards of
the environment. Charities such as Christian Ecology Link and World Vision work to increase awareness of the current ecological crisis and encourage
adherents to live sustainably and make 'green' consumption choices.Significant contemporary and historical religious figures have also had been highly
influential towards the ethical attitudes and practices of Christians. The Roman Catholic Church has issued a number of statements on the
environment. In 1985 the German Roman Catholic

Environmental Scan Essay 4/20/2013 Environmental scanning can be viewed as a way of acquiring information about outside events that can aid
organizations in first identifying potential trends, then interpreting them (Kerin, Hartley, & Rudelius, 2010). These trends normally consist of five
sources, social, economic, technological, competitive, and regulatory forces. My intention in this essay is to focus on one; the economic environmental
force. I will discuss how the current state of the economy will impact completing an environmental scan. In order to evaluate how the economy will
impact the completion of an environmental scan, it is essential to cover the concerns that affect the economic aspect whether people want to believe
...show more content...
The second concern is more of a microeconomic trend and it has to deal with the consumer income. These are equally important because as a
consumer, we affect the economy with what we do or do not purchase. Overall there are three components that a consumer's income is related to in
reference to buying that give us an idea of the state of the economy and the impact of completing an environmental scan. They are the gross,
disposable, and discretionary components. The gross income is the total amount of money that is made by one person, or a household. This can
affect an environmental scan due to the fact that someone in a family can fired from their job or given a raise leading to a disparity in the trend.
The disposable income is the money left after paying taxes. The problem is evident as described by Kerin, et al., (2010), "if taxes rise or fall faster
than income consumers are likely to have more or less disposable income"(p.66). By having more or less income it makes it hard to scan and develop
trends effectively. The third component is the discretionary income; what is left over when everything else is paid. In the end, the state of the economy
will undoubtedly have an effect on completing an environmental scan in large part due to the ups and downs of both what the consumers and
businesses are going through just to stay on track financially. It will make it difficult because of the concerns and trends that potentially are out

Abstract On Environmental Pollution
Abstract
Environmental pollution is anything that can cause harm to the environment. Pollution is any undesired alteration of the environment and is often
caused by human activities (Mader, 2016, pg. 552). Types of human pollution would be air, water, soil, radioactive, thermal, noise, and light. Each of
these forms of pollution has been known to cause the enormous amount of concern for the environment. There are laws in place now that are limiting
pollution and to help control the issue. Environmental pollution is a serious problem we are facing globally. It is the debate concerning pollution,
which we have been pondering for the past century. Prior to the industrial revolution, scientists thought that the atmosphere was untouched by
man–made pollutants until they found air bubbles hidden in the core of Greenland's ice shelf (Stromberg). After finding this essential development,
scientist began to reconsider the initial cause of pollution and how to decrease the lasting effects of it. With this discovery, pollution was traced back
to Ancient Rome and it was decided that globally we needed a new approach for dealing with this problem. There are numerous types of pollution and
they each have a devastating effect on the global climate. A scientist has been working on ways to re–direct the negative effects of pollution and at the
same time encourage people to try to find ways to do that part to help with this effort. We all can find some way to improve the world and decrease
pollution.
The problems with air pollution seem to be one of the largest most discussed situations. The Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) air pollution
is the release of pollutants into the air that is damaging human health and world. There are many forms of air pollution and smog and soot are two of
them. These two are discussed more when dissecting this problem due to them being the most common forms of air position, which are also the most
detrimental of them all. When the sunlight and emissions from fossil fuels interact that is how smog is created. The creation of soot formed from
smoke, dust, allergens and other particles are spread throughout the air in gas or solid form. Methane is also a huge component of the

Environmental Studies Reflection Paper
"In the past 50 years, humans have consumed more resources than in all of previous history." We live in a consumer society where individuals across
the world purchase, use, and dispose of products throughout their daily lives. Whether this makes their lives easier or not, it is taking an enormous toll
on our environment. If people from across the globe united, we could work together to make a change in policies, as well as influence other individuals
to create a healthier environment for generations to come. Participating in this class, I was able to broaden my horizons and perspectives on
environmental issues. Engaging in the reading material, field experience, guest lectures, and group discussions I had the opportunity to develop a
standpoint of what I believe to be the future of the environmental movement and what role I will partake. The objective of my paper is to inform the
audience how the reading material and field experience embodied my perspective of the future of the environmental movement and what role I will
fulfill in pursuing an optimistic perspective.
The reading material introduced ideas and perspectives from the authors on environmental issues. In The Green Collar Economy, Van Jones develops
an idea of renewable resources and sustainable products as the basis to transforming our environment and economy. Throughout the book Jones
discusses the environmental impacts a green collar economy would acquire, as well as the

Environmental Issues Essay
Did you ever think that something meant to aid in the advance of humans could be potentially fatal at the same time? What about a disease that was
considered “dead';, resurfacing and killing unsuspecting people? What about the fact that we as human beings are ruining the only place
for us to live, the earth? These questions sound outrageous, right? Wrong, these issues are considered environmental problems that we will soon face.
These issues are very serious and many people have no idea that they even exist. To have problems and not even know about them is definitely grounds
for destruction. We as a people, must look at the problems of antibiotic resistance, increasing diseases, weapons as wastes, and waste disposal and
...show more content...
The reasons for these deaths are new strains of the viruses, increased poverty, declining public health measures and increased human contact. To halt the
increase of the deaths, we must educate the public. If the symptoms, causes for, and methods of prevention are not taught to the public, they will
continue to die unfounded deaths. Education and prevention are the only way that these diseases can be defeated.
Weapons are contaminants of the environment also. The disposal of obsolete weapons is a problem being faced due to military tensions diminishing.
Explosives, chemical weapons and nuclear weapons are being dumped into landfills and water bodies, causing contamination and posing serious health
risks for those who come in contact with them. To prevent this, a way to dispose of these weapons without causing health risks must be developed.
Until then, they must be kept out of everyone’s reach to prevent harm.
Other contaminants include solid and toxic waste. With the increase of economy, comes the increase of waste. Waste is anything that is not desired by
an organism; releasing waste into the environment causes health risks for all organisms. To reduce these risks, government regulation must be
initiated. Recycling, reducing and reusing must also be executed. If not as much waste is produced or it can be reused, this problem may be decreased.
All in all, to keep what we have and maybe improve it, antibiotics use must

Environmental Art Essay
Environmental art is a genre of art that was established in the late 1960's and it was created by things found in nature to make a piece of art. Some of
the the environmental art would be so large in size, that it would be considered to be monumental. This kind of art can not be moved without
destroying it, and the climate and weather can change it. There are many reasons why an artist would create an environmental work of art, such as : to
address environmental issues affecting earth today, to show things that could be powered by nature or be interactive with natural phenomenon (like
lighting or earthquakes), or to show how people can co–exist with nature, or maybe use it as a means to help restore ecosystems in an aesthetic way.

Michael Hiezer's piece, "Double negative" was built in Nevada, near the Mormon mesa. According to Double negative, "The trenches line up
across a large gap formed by the natural shape of the mesa edge. Including this open area across the gap, the trenches together measure 1,500 feet
long, 50 feet deep, and 30 feet wide." Heizer just simply subtracted earth to create this work, he took away earth to create the two trenches and
thus, creating negative space, and that is how he created a "double negative." This piece was considered to be one of the first works to start the
earth art movement. This piece was created to help show people how the earth can relate to art. Heizer's piece "the city" is still a work in progress and
has been a life–long project that is somewhere in the Nevada Desert. The site can not be visited by people yet since Heizer is still working on it. He
is using "The complexes are made mostly of earth, and were inspired in part by Native American traditions of mound–building and the ancient cities of
Central and South America." Heizer states in regards to the City as, "I'm building this work for later. I'm interested in making a work of art that will
represent all the civilization to this point." Walter de Maria was born in California in 1935. He studied history and art at UC Berkeley, and then went
to New York in 1960. His early art was made from industrial materials to make minimalist art. In the late 1960's, he started to

Environmental Fundamentals
Introduction
Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with
their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for
example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the
relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should
be studied; how human...show more content...
Environmental Sustainability
Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the idea of keeping
the environment as pristine as naturally possible based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so
important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet
(Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally.
Human Values affecting Society
The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per
year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by
the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly
or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems,
which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants
and ourselves: where the process reaches

Personal Statement For Environmental Engineering
Preserving the environment is one of the most critical issues we are facing today. How we act now will determine the fate of future generations. What
really inspired me to consider environmental engineering as a profession was my Advanced Placement Environmental Science class in high school – it
opened my eyes to global issues such as overpopulation, loss of biodiversity, inefficient energy sources, irresponsible waste disposal, etc.– and it
motivated me to want to do something about it. What I want to ultimately accomplish in this field of work is facilitate the growth of the use of
renewable energy sources, support responsible population reduction initiatives, and develop agricultural practices that ensure food and water security
for every single person on the planet. The nature of the work varies depend on what one wants to specialize in. Many engineers work in office settings
(with a great deal of operational record keeping, paperwork, and technical reports), but it often requires hands–on work and on–site oversight, especially
when working in construction, ecosystem remediation, natural resource cultivation, or waste management. Oftentimes, engineers work over 40 hours a
week in order to meet deadlines and finish all their tasks. On average, daily face–to–face, email, and telephone communication, and group collaboration
with contractors, staff, and clients are necessary for careers offered to environmental engineers. At the same time, independent work is emphasized.

Environmental Impact Assessment ( Eia ) Essay
The Concept of EIA Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is defined differently in different regions and at different points of time and therefore,
there is no single definition of EIA which is globally accepted. Also, quite often the term EIA is interchangeably used with 'impact assessment' or
'environmental assessment'. But regardless of the variation in definitions and the terms used for it, EIA has always been considered as an aid to
decision making through which the potential environmental consequences of planned developmental actions are assessed in advance, well before
those actions become a reality. Thus, the basic concept behind EIA is very much similar to the 'look before you leap' approach. Having significant
scientific component, EIA serves as an organised means of gathering information and processing that information to predict the likely impacts of
proposed actions on the biophysical environment as well as on the human social environment. As the prediction of the potential impacts is mainly based
on the interpretation of the available information, therefore, EIA most of the times depends upon individual values and professional judgements
(Noble, 2011). EIA is also viewed as an environmental management tool because it recommends means and methods for the managing the
environmental impacts of a proposed project if consent for development is granted (Morrison–Saunders & Bailey, 1999). In this way the mitigation
measures based upon the predicted impacts can

Environmental Pollution
Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are:
deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources.
Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140 million tons of pollutants into the air every year.
Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, of air pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when
sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and...show more content...
Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that
penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into
streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump freshoxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil
from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil
is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem.
Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into
desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning
started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released
from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1
percent of depletion of the ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5

Persuasive Essay On Environmental Issues
There are various controversial topics that influence our lives every day. Environmental issues as a whole have been pushed down and are rarely
publicized. The issue of deforestation is a huge environmental problem that I do not often hear about on the news or in my day to day life. Most of
what I know about the topic is from reading science textbooks. I understand what deforestation means, and I understand that it largely affects the world
today, and more specifically affectsclimate change, however I have never heard current news on this subject. Deforestation is the clearing away of a
large area of trees. I know that deforestation plays a role in the decrease of biodiversity and affects the climate and environment of the earth as a
whole. Three sources that could lead to more information about this topic include social media sites, a news outlet, and a scientific article. Social
media cites, such as Facebook, can influence our understanding of deforestation. As we are scrolling through our Facebook pages, the posts that we
see and read affect our understanding of a subject. I had to look up posts about deforestation on Facebook because no one I know posts about this
topic, and hardly anyone seems to care about this subject in America. There were a few posts from the Facebook pages of news sources, like CNN,
and a few environmental groups such as the Environmental Defense Fund with posts, but not many everyday people. One person had a post about how

Environmental Club Application Essay
Since I was in second grade, I have had a passion for preserving the environment. I am always looking for more ways that I can share my excitement
with my community. So, when I entered high school, I joined the Environmental Club to work with other students who are passionate about
environmental preservation. When I joined, it was a group of five students who would collect and sort the school's recyclables. With over 2,500
students and faculty members, this is like recycling for a small community, and while recycling is extremely important, I wanted to make an even larger
impact on my community. Since my involvement in 2013, I have worked to expand Environmental Club to be more involved. It has started
volunteering at the local nature center to educate younger children on important environmental issues and began hosting environmental concerts. It
also started a "No–Idling" campaign, calling for community awareness of air pollution. Environmental Club has now expanded to 25 active members,
and it has collectively volunteered over 3,500 hours in...show more content...
My main ambition as the president has been to help people feel included in my community. One way I have done this is through introducing the

leaders to host the "Tiger Welcome" so the Class of 2021 and the future classes will be more involved in the community and find friends with their
similar interests. Another way I have worked to unite the community has been through hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast, where I invited all veterans in
the community to eat at my school and thank them for their service. While this certainly is not enough to thank the veterans for all their work, they
were grateful that they spent a morning with students who truly care about the service they did for our

I think I am living unsustainably because I don't feel that I limit myself as to how much I waste natural resources. I rarely bike or walk anywhere,
and mostly go in a car, which is polluting the air and is not sustainable. I also tend to eat a lot of fish with out checking which fish are most
sustainable or whether or not the fish I am eating is sustainable. I take for granted the natural resources I have and use up. Another unsustainable
component in my lifestyle is the water I use. I do not make enough of an effort to cut back on my shower time. However, whenever I do become
aware of water being wasted, like if someone doesn't turn off the sink, I always make sure to make people aware that water is being wasted and that it
must stop. I could apply the first principle of sustainability by using solar powered machinery in my home and plant more plants which use solar
energy for photosynthesis. I could apply the second principle by making sure that I do not kill bugs in an area because that would reduce the biodiversity
and therefore affect the food chain. Also, I encourage the study of biodiversity on the planet because the various species could help us find new
medical treatment. I could apply the third principle of sustainability by making sure I don't waste water and take shorter showers because every
chemical and nutrient must be recycled. Also I could try and reduce the amount of soil we take up so that we do not use more than we can afford. I
could apply the first social science principle of sustainability by writing to companies whose products have an effect on the environment and warning
them that their actions have a cost, which must be paid for. Also I could study more on the price which it takes to repair the environment to make
people more aware. The second principle could be applied by compromising how much I waste, even though it seems beneficial towards myself, to
help the environment. One way is carpooling, and another is showering for less

Responsibility Of Environmental Responsibility
Today in our world we don't seem to care about what happens to our planet. We are just continuing to pollute, destroy ecosystems, and deplete our
natural resources, and so much more to harm our environment. But what is anyone doing to stop this to save our environment? All of his conflict and
problems we are bringing onto our selves, which will only continue to get worse and worse if we don't take action now. It is important to know that
humans must have a relationship with our planet in order to not destroy it, also known as environmental responsibility.
What exactly is environmental responsibility? There really isn't an exact definition since there are many ways people look at the situation. But one of
the interpretations of the definition is that environmental responsibly is the "obligation of decision makers to take actions which protect and improve the
environment as a whole, along with their own interests," according to the University of Pretorie. But my personal view of the subject at hand is,
it's one responsibly or duty to take care, help improve and rebuild any past and future damages we have or will on our environment. Fixing our past
actions will help us repair our damaged environment, and prepare us for any future conflict. . But why is it important to have environmental
responsibility? It's important since all of the resources we are using and the way we are using them today, are either constructing or razing the world
of tomorrow. So, we have to construct sustainability in order to secure we have enough resources, and make sure we don't run out of them in the
future. First let me start with the basics. I know you have heard of how we are polluting our environment. It has existed in the air, water, and soil for
thousands of years, and all this pollution in our environment can cause many problems such as diseases such as cancer. We need to take drastic
measures to stop all of this pollution in our environment. We can start using clean energy in our everyday lives. Instead of using gas to power our cars,
in the future we may switch to electric cars. Since cars are one of the main contributors to the air pollution in our environment. We can reduce the
amount of runoff in our water systems by

Environmental Issue Essay
Environmental problems are something which belongs to nature or known as "Mother Earth" [13]. Nature was created to help people survive from
gathering foods until build a house. This phenomenon happens continuously without thinking how much damage that nature has because human's fault.
Nature gradually becomes worse and animal's life in danger. People who are aware of the importance of nature react. Those people do several ways to
save the environment. Although these efforts can return back the environment, these efforts only can be hold temporarily. This problem happens
because those people who are aware of the environment only slightly; for remaining, there are people either do not know or do not care about the

Air pollution levels have a large existence in big cities in Indonesia like Jakarta, Bandung, and so on. This problem happens because the number of
motor vehicle use that is not limited [1]. Exhaust smog are the cause of air pollution which has the dangerous effects for people's health. Exhaust smog
is a result of burning fuel oil every motor vehicle. There are two types of burning fuel oil: the first is complete burning [2] and incomplete burning [3].
These types of burning have the differentiation in producing the remainder. Complete burning produces carbon dioxide as a result of remaining while
incomplete burning produces carbon monoxide as a result of the rest. Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are gases that are harmful to people's
health and could decrease ozone layer [4] [5]. Exhaust smog is hazardous to people's health. Exhaust smog is a result of burning fuel oil [6].
Consequently, exhaust smog has possibility to contain carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide gas. These harmful gases affect human respiration.
Carbon monoxide makes the respiratory system becomes worse. Carbon monoxide will interfere with the process of hemoglobin in breathing [7]. As a
result, people will not only feel lack of oxygen but also often feel dizzy and weak. In the other hand, carbon dioxide causes dizziness and fatigue to the
sufferer [8]. In the prevention and reduction of the impact of exhaust smog, the Indonesian government decided all motor vehicle users have to check

environmental and social issues don't seem like they would be social issues looking at it from afar but if you take the time to analyze and break it

It also makes up for some of the states that can't plant crops or do as much farming due to their environment and/or landscape. Another positive is if
there is a loss of crops in other parts of the United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if Iowa is
one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the corn and soybeans being planted for that year. Another
negative would be only being able to farm for a certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a decrease
in the state of Iowa's economy. This is both an environmental and social issue because, it is about the environment and how crops can impact it but also
how it can impact humans.

Much of our waste is made up of glass, metal, plastic and paper. Our natural resources such as trees, oil, coal and aluminum are used up in enormous
amounts to make these products and the resources will one day be completely used up. So in order to cut down on the energy used lets reuse.
What can you do?
* Sort out your trash. Organic matter (e.g. potato peelings, left over food, tea leaves etc.) can be put in to a compost heap in the garden and used as a
good, natural fertilizer for the plants.
*Aluminum cans, glass bottles and newspapers are often collected from our doorsteps, but other items such as plastic bottles, juice cartons and
cardboard may not be, in which case they can be taken to nearby recycling banks. You can find out where they are by just searching on line. * Use
recycled paper to help save trees. Chlorine bleach is usually used to make newspapers and this pollutes rivers. It's better to use unbleached,
recycled paper whenever you can. * Take your old clothes to charity shops. Some are sold, others are returned to textile mills for recycling. * Try to
avoid buying plastic. It's hard to recycle. One way to cut down on plastic is to refuse to use plastic bags offered by supermarkets and use cloth
re–useable shopping bags instead, or re–use plastic bags over and over again, until they wear out and then recycle them.

Christian Environmental Ethics

  • 1. Christian Environmental Ethics Research Essay: 20876077 Through the study of scripture, Christian movements and the views of historical and contemporary figures, it can be said that Christian ethical teachings have a significant influence on the lives of its adherents. A prime example of the effects of these teachings is the nature and practice of Christian environmental ethics. The Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy defines environmental ethics as the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship of human beings to, and also the value and moral status of, the environment and its nonhuman contents. Although each denomination has its own unique manner of judging ethical understanding, the basic and fundamental structures of their environmental...show more content... The passage of John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" emphasises the importance of animals in the hierarchy of creation and Christian's responsibility to protect and care for them. The issue of Deforestation has been high on the global environmental agenda for many years, and remains a serious problem today. In the tropics and many other parts of the world, nations continue to lose the valuable biodiversity, soil and water conservation, and climate regulation that natural forests provide. Christianity can only address this matter by continuing to combine an acceptance of the command to people to 'multiply and replenish the earth' (Genesis 1:28) with a balancing injunction to act as stewards of the environment. Charities such as Christian Ecology Link and World Vision work to increase awareness of the current ecological crisis and encourage adherents to live sustainably and make 'green' consumption choices.Significant contemporary and historical religious figures have also had been highly influential towards the ethical attitudes and practices of Christians. The Roman Catholic Church has issued a number of statements on the environment. In 1985 the German Roman Catholic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Environmental Essay Environmental Scan Essay 4/20/2013 Environmental scanning can be viewed as a way of acquiring information about outside events that can aid organizations in first identifying potential trends, then interpreting them (Kerin, Hartley, & Rudelius, 2010). These trends normally consist of five sources, social, economic, technological, competitive, and regulatory forces. My intention in this essay is to focus on one; the economic environmental force. I will discuss how the current state of the economy will impact completing an environmental scan. In order to evaluate how the economy will impact the completion of an environmental scan, it is essential to cover the concerns that affect the economic aspect whether people want to believe ...show more content... The second concern is more of a microeconomic trend and it has to deal with the consumer income. These are equally important because as a consumer, we affect the economy with what we do or do not purchase. Overall there are three components that a consumer's income is related to in reference to buying that give us an idea of the state of the economy and the impact of completing an environmental scan. They are the gross, disposable, and discretionary components. The gross income is the total amount of money that is made by one person, or a household. This can affect an environmental scan due to the fact that someone in a family can fired from their job or given a raise leading to a disparity in the trend. The disposable income is the money left after paying taxes. The problem is evident as described by Kerin, et al., (2010), "if taxes rise or fall faster than income consumers are likely to have more or less disposable income"(p.66). By having more or less income it makes it hard to scan and develop trends effectively. The third component is the discretionary income; what is left over when everything else is paid. In the end, the state of the economy will undoubtedly have an effect on completing an environmental scan in large part due to the ups and downs of both what the consumers and businesses are going through just to stay on track financially. It will make it difficult because of the concerns and trends that potentially are out Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Abstract On Environmental Pollution Abstract Environmental pollution is anything that can cause harm to the environment. Pollution is any undesired alteration of the environment and is often caused by human activities (Mader, 2016, pg. 552). Types of human pollution would be air, water, soil, radioactive, thermal, noise, and light. Each of these forms of pollution has been known to cause the enormous amount of concern for the environment. There are laws in place now that are limiting pollution and to help control the issue. Environmental pollution is a serious problem we are facing globally. It is the debate concerning pollution, which we have been pondering for the past century. Prior to the industrial revolution, scientists thought that the atmosphere was untouched by man–made pollutants until they found air bubbles hidden in the core of Greenland's ice shelf (Stromberg). After finding this essential development, scientist began to reconsider the initial cause of pollution and how to decrease the lasting effects of it. With this discovery, pollution was traced back to Ancient Rome and it was decided that globally we needed a new approach for dealing with this problem. There are numerous types of pollution and they each have a devastating effect on the global climate. A scientist has been working on ways to re–direct the negative effects of pollution and at the same time encourage people to try to find ways to do that part to help with this effort. We all can find some way to improve the world and decrease pollution. The problems with air pollution seem to be one of the largest most discussed situations. The Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) air pollution is the release of pollutants into the air that is damaging human health and world. There are many forms of air pollution and smog and soot are two of them. These two are discussed more when dissecting this problem due to them being the most common forms of air position, which are also the most detrimental of them all. When the sunlight and emissions from fossil fuels interact that is how smog is created. The creation of soot formed from smoke, dust, allergens and other particles are spread throughout the air in gas or solid form. Methane is also a huge component of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Environmental Studies Reflection Paper Environmental Studies Reflection Paper "In the past 50 years, humans have consumed more resources than in all of previous history." We live in a consumer society where individuals across the world purchase, use, and dispose of products throughout their daily lives. Whether this makes their lives easier or not, it is taking an enormous toll on our environment. If people from across the globe united, we could work together to make a change in policies, as well as influence other individuals to create a healthier environment for generations to come. Participating in this class, I was able to broaden my horizons and perspectives on environmental issues. Engaging in the reading material, field experience, guest lectures, and group discussions I had the opportunity to develop a standpoint of what I believe to be the future of the environmental movement and what role I will partake. The objective of my paper is to inform the audience how the reading material and field experience embodied my perspective of the future of the environmental movement and what role I will fulfill in pursuing an optimistic perspective. The reading material introduced ideas and perspectives from the authors on environmental issues. In The Green Collar Economy, Van Jones develops an idea of renewable resources and sustainable products as the basis to transforming our environment and economy. Throughout the book Jones discusses the environmental impacts a green collar economy would acquire, as well as the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Environmental Issues Essay Did you ever think that something meant to aid in the advance of humans could be potentially fatal at the same time? What about a disease that was considered “dead';, resurfacing and killing unsuspecting people? What about the fact that we as human beings are ruining the only place for us to live, the earth? These questions sound outrageous, right? Wrong, these issues are considered environmental problems that we will soon face. These issues are very serious and many people have no idea that they even exist. To have problems and not even know about them is definitely grounds for destruction. We as a people, must look at the problems of antibiotic resistance, increasing diseases, weapons as wastes, and waste disposal and ...show more content... The reasons for these deaths are new strains of the viruses, increased poverty, declining public health measures and increased human contact. To halt the increase of the deaths, we must educate the public. If the symptoms, causes for, and methods of prevention are not taught to the public, they will continue to die unfounded deaths. Education and prevention are the only way that these diseases can be defeated. Weapons are contaminants of the environment also. The disposal of obsolete weapons is a problem being faced due to military tensions diminishing. Explosives, chemical weapons and nuclear weapons are being dumped into landfills and water bodies, causing contamination and posing serious health risks for those who come in contact with them. To prevent this, a way to dispose of these weapons without causing health risks must be developed. Until then, they must be kept out of everyone’s reach to prevent harm. Other contaminants include solid and toxic waste. With the increase of economy, comes the increase of waste. Waste is anything that is not desired by an organism; releasing waste into the environment causes health risks for all organisms. To reduce these risks, government regulation must be initiated. Recycling, reducing and reusing must also be executed. If not as much waste is produced or it can be reused, this problem may be decreased. All in all, to keep what we have and maybe improve it, antibiotics use must Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Environmental Art Essay Environmental art is a genre of art that was established in the late 1960's and it was created by things found in nature to make a piece of art. Some of the the environmental art would be so large in size, that it would be considered to be monumental. This kind of art can not be moved without destroying it, and the climate and weather can change it. There are many reasons why an artist would create an environmental work of art, such as : to address environmental issues affecting earth today, to show things that could be powered by nature or be interactive with natural phenomenon (like lighting or earthquakes), or to show how people can co–exist with nature, or maybe use it as a means to help restore ecosystems in an aesthetic way. ...show more content... Michael Hiezer's piece, "Double negative" was built in Nevada, near the Mormon mesa. According to Double negative, "The trenches line up across a large gap formed by the natural shape of the mesa edge. Including this open area across the gap, the trenches together measure 1,500 feet long, 50 feet deep, and 30 feet wide." Heizer just simply subtracted earth to create this work, he took away earth to create the two trenches and thus, creating negative space, and that is how he created a "double negative." This piece was considered to be one of the first works to start the earth art movement. This piece was created to help show people how the earth can relate to art. Heizer's piece "the city" is still a work in progress and has been a life–long project that is somewhere in the Nevada Desert. The site can not be visited by people yet since Heizer is still working on it. He is using "The complexes are made mostly of earth, and were inspired in part by Native American traditions of mound–building and the ancient cities of Central and South America." Heizer states in regards to the City as, "I'm building this work for later. I'm interested in making a work of art that will represent all the civilization to this point." Walter de Maria was born in California in 1935. He studied history and art at UC Berkeley, and then went to New York in 1960. His early art was made from industrial materials to make minimalist art. • 7. Environmental Science Essay Environmental Fundamentals Laura Jackson Env/100 April 8, 2013 JOHN ENSWORTH Environmental Fundamentals Introduction Environmental science is defined as the study of the environment and the interconnecting systems it contains, furthermore, the way people interact with their natural surroundings and use natural resources (wise geek, 2013). Scientist in this field is highly interdisciplinary and extremely diverse, for example, a scientist might study volcanoes or climate change. This essay will cover the following; the definition of environmental science, the relationship between science and technology and how it affects environmental problems; the concept of environmental sustainability and why it should be studied; how human...show more content... Environmental Sustainability Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the idea of keeping the environment as pristine as naturally possible based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely preserving the life support systems of the planet (Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally. Human Values affecting Society The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems, which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants

  • 9. Personal Statement For Environmental Engineering Preserving the environment is one of the most critical issues we are facing today. How we act now will determine the fate of future generations. What really inspired me to consider environmental engineering as a profession was my Advanced Placement Environmental Science class in high school – it opened my eyes to global issues such as overpopulation, loss of biodiversity, inefficient energy sources, irresponsible waste disposal, etc.– and it motivated me to want to do something about it. What I want to ultimately accomplish in this field of work is facilitate the growth of the use of renewable energy sources, support responsible population reduction initiatives, and develop agricultural practices that ensure food and water security for every single person on the planet. The nature of the work varies depend on what one wants to specialize in. Many engineers work in office settings (with a great deal of operational record keeping, paperwork, and technical reports), but it often requires hands–on work and on–site oversight, especially when working in construction, ecosystem remediation, natural resource cultivation, or waste management. Oftentimes, engineers work over 40 hours a week in order to meet deadlines and finish all their tasks. On average, daily face–to–face, email, and telephone communication, and group collaboration with contractors, staff, and clients are necessary for careers offered to environmental engineers. At the same time, independent work is emphasized. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Environmental Impact Assessment ( Eia ) Essay The Concept of EIA Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is defined differently in different regions and at different points of time and therefore, there is no single definition of EIA which is globally accepted. Also, quite often the term EIA is interchangeably used with 'impact assessment' or 'environmental assessment'. But regardless of the variation in definitions and the terms used for it, EIA has always been considered as an aid to decision making through which the potential environmental consequences of planned developmental actions are assessed in advance, well before those actions become a reality. Thus, the basic concept behind EIA is very much similar to the 'look before you leap' approach. Having significant scientific component, EIA serves as an organised means of gathering information and processing that information to predict the likely impacts of proposed actions on the biophysical environment as well as on the human social environment. As the prediction of the potential impacts is mainly based on the interpretation of the available information, therefore, EIA most of the times depends upon individual values and professional judgements (Noble, 2011). EIA is also viewed as an environmental management tool because it recommends means and methods for the managing the environmental impacts of a proposed project if consent for development is granted (Morrison–Saunders & Bailey, 1999). In this way the mitigation measures based upon the predicted impacts can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Environmental Pollution Essays Environmental Pollution Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Acid rain is formed when sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and...show more content... Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump freshoxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Environmental Issues There are various controversial topics that influence our lives every day. Environmental issues as a whole have been pushed down and are rarely publicized. The issue of deforestation is a huge environmental problem that I do not often hear about on the news or in my day to day life. Most of what I know about the topic is from reading science textbooks. I understand what deforestation means, and I understand that it largely affects the world today, and more specifically affectsclimate change, however I have never heard current news on this subject. Deforestation is the clearing away of a large area of trees. I know that deforestation plays a role in the decrease of biodiversity and affects the climate and environment of the earth as a whole. Three sources that could lead to more information about this topic include social media sites, a news outlet, and a scientific article. Social media cites, such as Facebook, can influence our understanding of deforestation. As we are scrolling through our Facebook pages, the posts that we see and read affect our understanding of a subject. I had to look up posts about deforestation on Facebook because no one I know posts about this topic, and hardly anyone seems to care about this subject in America. There were a few posts from the Facebook pages of news sources, like CNN, and a few environmental groups such as the Environmental Defense Fund with posts, but not many everyday people. One person had a post about how carbon dioxide is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I am always looking for more ways that I can share my excitement with my community. So, when I entered high school, I joined the Environmental Club to work with other students who are passionate about environmental preservation. When I joined, it was a group of five students who would collect and sort the school's recyclables. With over 2,500 students and faculty members, this is like recycling for a small community, and while recycling is extremely important, I wanted to make an even larger impact on my community. Since my involvement in 2013, I have worked to expand Environmental Club to be more involved. It has started volunteering at the local nature center to educate younger children on important environmental issues and began hosting environmental concerts. It also started a "No–Idling" campaign, calling for community awareness of air pollution. I rarely bike or walk anywhere, and mostly go in a car, which is polluting the air and is not sustainable. I also tend to eat a lot of fish with out checking which fish are most sustainable or whether or not the fish I am eating is sustainable. I take for granted the natural resources I have and use up. Another unsustainable component in my lifestyle is the water I use. I do not make enough of an effort to cut back on my shower time. However, whenever I do become aware of water being wasted, like if someone doesn't turn off the sink, I always make sure to make people aware that water is being wasted and that it must stop. I could apply the first principle of sustainability by using solar powered machinery in my home and plant more plants which use solar energy for photosynthesis. I could apply the second principle by making sure that I do not kill bugs in an area because that would reduce the biodiversity and therefore affect the food chain. Also, I encourage the study of biodiversity on the planet because the various species could help us find new medical treatment. I could apply the third principle of sustainability by making sure I don't waste water and take shorter showers because every chemical and nutrient must be recycled. Also I could try and reduce the amount of soil we take up so that we do not use more than we can afford. I could apply the first social science principle of sustainability by writing to companies whose products have an effect on the environment and warning them that their actions have a cost, which must be paid for. Also I could study more on the price which it takes to repair the environment to make people more aware. The second principle could be applied by compromising how much I waste, even though it seems beneficial towards myself, to help the environment. One way is carpooling, and another is showering for less

  • 17. Responsibility Of Environmental Responsibility Today in our world we don't seem to care about what happens to our planet. We are just continuing to pollute, destroy ecosystems, and deplete our natural resources, and so much more to harm our environment. But what is anyone doing to stop this to save our environment? All of his conflict and problems we are bringing onto our selves, which will only continue to get worse and worse if we don't take action now. It is important to know that humans must have a relationship with our planet in order to not destroy it, also known as environmental responsibility. What exactly is environmental responsibility? There really isn't an exact definition since there are many ways people look at the situation. But one of the interpretations of the definition is that environmental responsibly is the "obligation of decision makers to take actions which protect and improve the environment as a whole, along with their own interests," according to the University of Pretorie. But my personal view of the subject at hand is, it's one responsibly or duty to take care, help improve and rebuild any past and future damages we have or will on our environment. Fixing our past actions will help us repair our damaged environment, and prepare us for any future conflict. . But why is it important to have environmental responsibility? It's important since all of the resources we are using and the way we are using them today, are either constructing or razing the world of tomorrow. So, we have to construct sustainability in order to secure we have enough resources, and make sure we don't run out of them in the future. First let me start with the basics. I know you have heard of how we are polluting our environment. It has existed in the air, water, and soil for thousands of years, and all this pollution in our environment can cause many problems such as diseases such as cancer. We need to take drastic measures to stop all of this pollution in our environment. We can start using clean energy in our everyday lives. Instead of using gas to power our cars, in the future we may switch to electric cars. Since cars are one of the main contributors to the air pollution in our environment. We can reduce the amount of runoff in our water systems by Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Environmental Issue Essay Environmental problems are something which belongs to nature or known as "Mother Earth" [13]. Nature was created to help people survive from gathering foods until build a house. This phenomenon happens continuously without thinking how much damage that nature has because human's fault. Nature gradually becomes worse and animal's life in danger. People who are aware of the importance of nature react. Those people do several ways to save the environment. Although these efforts can return back the environment, these efforts only can be hold temporarily. This problem happens because those people who are aware of the environment only slightly; for remaining, there are people either do not know or do not care about the nature. People's efforts...show more content... Air pollution levels have a large existence in big cities in Indonesia like Jakarta, Bandung, and so on. This problem happens because the number of motor vehicle use that is not limited [1]. Exhaust smog are the cause of air pollution which has the dangerous effects for people's health. Exhaust smog is a result of burning fuel oil every motor vehicle. There are two types of burning fuel oil: the first is complete burning [2] and incomplete burning [3]. These types of burning have the differentiation in producing the remainder. Complete burning produces carbon dioxide as a result of remaining while incomplete burning produces carbon monoxide as a result of the rest. Carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are gases that are harmful to people's health and could decrease ozone layer [4] [5]. As a result, people will not only feel lack of oxygen but also often feel dizzy and weak. In the other hand, carbon dioxide causes dizziness and fatigue to the sufferer [8]. In the prevention and reduction of the impact of exhaust smog, the Indonesian government decided all motor vehicle users have to check Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Social Issues And Environmental Issues In today's world majority of the environmental issues we face are also social issues. These environmental issues becoming social issues when they tend to impact a large number of individuals in society. Some well known examples of this would be climate change, global warming and deforestation. These are clearly environmental issues but are also social issues because they all pose a threat to the environment of mankind. Some environmental and social issues don't seem like they would be social issues looking at it from afar but if you take the time to analyze and break it down you can see it does indeed have an impact on a large part of humans. For example, animal predator declines, this tends to happen in a lot of smaller areas around the...show more content... It also makes up for some of the states that can't plant crops or do as much farming due to their environment and/or landscape. Another positive is if there is a loss of crops in other parts of the United States, Iowa could carry the weight of those lost crops but it can also be a negative because if Iowa is one of those states that is experiencing the loss of crops then that is a big portion of the corn and soybeans being planted for that year. Another negative would be only being able to farm for a certain part of the year because you only plant two crops which could lead to less jobs and a decrease in the state of Iowa's economy. This is both an environmental and social issue because, it is about the environment and how crops can impact it but also how it can impact humans. In chapter 11 of Bell, I read about supplying water in a costa rican village. There was a small village in Costa Rica that had just put in a new water supply dam. The dam was based on a small stream that went up into the mountains above the village and it was able to supply all of the houses on that side of the valley with clean running water. Positives of this is that there is water that is easily accessible to all of them in that area of the valley, they don't have to put their lives in danger by going into rivers and possible get attacked by predators or get a disease from bacteria that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Speech on Environmental Issues Today Essay Our Environment – how can you and I help save it? Albert Einstein said "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." Our planet is in trouble! Pretty much everywhere you look today you will hear or see something reminding you that our planet's health is failing. If our planet where a person it would be about time to buy the burial plot and write out the last will and testament. Just a brief list of the things that is ailing her is – pollution, acid rain, climate change, the destruction of rainforests and other wild habitats, the decline and extinction of thousands of species of animals and plants....and so on. I think everyone in here can agree that all of these issues exist and that humans have caused them....show more content... Much of our waste is made up of glass, metal, plastic and paper. Our natural resources such as trees, oil, coal and aluminum are used up in enormous amounts to make these products and the resources will one day be completely used up. So in order to cut down on the energy used lets reuse. What can you do? * Sort out your trash. Organic matter (e.g. potato peelings, left over food, tea leaves etc.) can be put in to a compost heap in the garden and used as a good, natural fertilizer for the plants. *Aluminum cans, glass bottles and newspapers are often collected from our doorsteps, but other items such as plastic bottles, juice cartons and cardboard may not be, in which case they can be taken to nearby recycling banks. You can find out where they are by just searching on line. * Use recycled paper to help save trees. Chlorine bleach is usually used to make newspapers and this pollutes rivers. It's better to use unbleached, recycled paper whenever you can. * Take your old clothes to charity shops. Some are sold, others are returned to textile mills for recycling. * Try to avoid buying plastic. It's hard to recycle. One way to cut down on plastic is to refuse to use plastic bags offered by supermarkets and use cloth re–useable shopping bags instead, or re–use plastic bags over and over again, until they wear out and then recycle them.
