Writing Genre Analysis
Translating one genre into another one requires creative thinking and forces writer to adapt to the needs of a new audience. In this assignment, I chose
to translate an entertainment article into a scientific journal. Specifically, I wanted to change the genre of an article titled "Gavin Rossdale Cheated on
Gwen Stefani With the Family Nanny for Years "Right Under" Her Nose: Details" turn it into a scientific journal. The scientific journal will then
discusses women's reaction to cheating in relationship. I decided to do this since these two genres of writing seem to be a complete opposite. They are
opposite in a sense that entertainment journalism tend to have subjective approach with storytelling format and informal word choices whereas scientific

I think the hardest part of this assignment is making sure that the article that I am translating to reflects the characteristics of the actual genre.
Although this was initially challenging, I was able to overcome these confusion by studying more about both the magazine article and the
scientific journal and analyzing the writing conventions that each of these genres have. By studying more about the genres and actually
translating the piece myself, I was able to get a deeper understanding of the writing choices and the purpose of these two genres. As mentioned in
Kerry Dirk's "Navigating Genres" article, each genre has certain characteristics or conventions that define them (Dirk, 258). This assignment
helped me understand the choices that authors made in these two genres in order to attract their own target audience and purpose. For example, I
learned that entertainment articles like to use words such as "shocking" and "exclusive news" because they are trying to attract readers while
scientific journals prefer less of this. In addition to using Dirk's "Navigating Genres" article, I also used Mike Bunn's "How to Read Like a Writer"
article to help me in this translating process. As explained by Bunn, when we read like a writer, we identify some of the choices that the authors
made so then we could have better understanding of how such choices might appear in our own writing (Bunn, 22). By learning how to read like a
writer and applying it to reading the original article, I was able to notice the choices that she had made and decide which parts of it that I would want
to keep for the new translated

Examples Of Genre Analysis
Literature review
Genre analysis, literally is to analyze a piece of genre which is "a staged, goal–oriented, purposeful activity"in which speakers/writers engaged to express
a certain meaning (Martin,1984,p.25). In other words, people use language in various occasions, for some certain purposes, perceived to be a
meaningful and coherent whole which focus on communicative function: "language"in action or "language in use" , can be called as a type of text or
discourse. While genre analysis is treated as discourse analysis more like a text analysis. Text is a record of communicative event while discourse refers
to the interpretation of the communicative event in context (Nunan,1993),which shows discourse connects text with context. Following...show more

No matter which type of job or career the author is looking for, a resume is a great first step. Generally, resumes are built and created in early
adulthood by the author them self. There are a few things that can be assumed about the authors. First, they are middle to upper class individuals who
like to show off their own personal qualifications, education, and academic and professional experiences they have obtained throughout their life. The
audience in which will be looking over these resumes could be a pretty broad range generally speaking, but for the most part whoever the author is
submitting the resume to will be the intended audience for this genre. I think it is safe to say this genre will be around for many years to come,...show

The example of the author wanting to become a teacher states, "Excellent background and proven success in helping children reach their full
potential" (O'Neill). This statement clearly states that she has been a teacher in the past and has proof that she has helped her students to success and
reach their full potential. Not only are the qualifications important but also the education in which the author has had. Under the education portion of

category placed on a resume is the academic and professional experience the author has had prior to creating their resume. The author who is

where she was the Vice President of Marketing. The author states while being a part of All Talk Radio she increased the audience of student

impact on the company in which she is applying for. Although the content of the genre is important the structure of the genre is also important for the
author to take into consideration. The structure of a resume starts off with the authors name, which is bolded and large in font to catch the

Genre Analysis Across Genres
Over many years, genre has become an important role in everyone's life. Scholarly authors such as Winsor, Pare, Berkenkotter, and Huckin, have
noticed this trend and how it is important for people to understand this concept in order to understand writing. Some of these trends are noticeable in
social groups such as businesses, educational settings, and other discourse communities in which they all were simplified to a specific standard within
their group. These genres will facilitate activities, impact social relationships, identities, and structure communities. It is important to know that not all
communities will share common genres; in fact, they might vary heavily.
In the field of education, there is a difference between school reports of students and state reports of students. It is common for these reports to have the

Genres have the basic ability to facilitate the activities in which a group or individual partakes in. As we saw in the state and local reports, they had
some similar information such as graphs and charts with state or local assessments that students took, generic information on teachers and the school,
and also had to be accessible on varying platforms such as paper or computer to take into consideration those who are not able to get either or. These
ideas help shape the education community such as who they are, and their goals to better students development. It is important for education majors in
college and current educators to understand how this process works so they get the most out of the system. I know many education classes talk about
teacher criteria and what is expected of them. These norms have been created by state and government officials, and will always play a role in how the

Movie Analysis : Film And Film Genre Essay
There are many different types of film and film genres. A film can fit into more than one genre, but there are some genres that are more general than
others. Some examples of film genre are animated, science fiction, documentary, comedy, and historical fiction. Within each genre, there are also
specific characteristics that help support themes and story lines within that genre. An animated movie is a drawing, painted, or digitally created film
that uses stop–frame cinematography to simulate movement. The best example of an animated movie is Spirited Away. This film came out in
2001 and was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film revolves around Chihiro, a girl who must grow up quickly and save her parents from a spirit
world. The theme of the film is that there is both good and evil in the world and part of growing up is finding the line between good and evil. In
almost every animated film you will find a family friend theme and a fast paced story. This is mainly because most animated films are aimed toward
children and families. As a result of this, animated films usually revolve around growing up and taking responsibility, or other themes that will benefit
children. Spirited Away is the best example of an animated movie because it is fast paced, has great themes, and is engaging to both children and
adults. When children watch Spirited Away they will love the themes or growing up and taking responsibility and exploring the fantasy world inside
the film. Adults will also

Introduction The primary topic of the website and magazine is to give a brief overview about the history museum. Both genres provide readers with
two different sources of information about the museum and basic information. The website covers more up to date events and information, and was
developed to be a persuasion method to attract the audience to visit the museum. A lot of the information on the website promotes the museum. For
example: the site has a visit tab and gives basic information on one page to make is easily accessible for future visitors. On the other hand, the primary
topic of the magazine is to give the current museum audience a condensed version of the website and covers the most important topics. Overall both
genres play off each other, and both have their own representation of the museum. Throughout this essay we will closely examine the genres; content,
structure, design choice, how each genre evokes emotions, and view the different aspects of each and how they target their audience. The purpose of
this genre analysis is to examine the efficacy of the chosen genres. In examining...show more content...

Romantic Comedy Genre Analysis
Genre in film began as a sort of "commercial tool" which showed audiences recognizable film content in order to attract customers (Campbell and
Swenson). As the film industry grew, this content began to be more specialized, allowing the audience to know exactly what to expect from the film
they were seeing. For example, films within the same genre share the same myths, iconography, and conventions. This means they have similarities in
aspects such as plot, characters, themes, moods, ways of doing things particular to that genre, and repeated visual and oral elements such as images and
sounds. Often genre films are influenced by the social culture of the time in which they are produced, and the content in the film tend to propose a
solution to the current problems within society. These resolutions are often portrayed by a main protagonists who is presented with a conflict; the film
then concludes with the character reaching a solution to the problem that is not only logical, but moral as well. Within the romantic comedy genre
specifically, the storyline usually follows a couple rather than a protagonist. The romantic comedy, or rom com, genre has often been ruled "a purely
escapist and conservative genre, accused of unquestioningly presenting unrealistic romantic fantasies for passive audiences" (MacDowell). From its
earliest days, romantic comedy films have mostly focused on finding romance and the idea that love is the key to a fulfilled and delighted life. However,

People have always enjoyed graphic novels for as long as they have been around. They have been used to spread around an important message, politic
viewpoints, explore new ideas in literature, and expose different styles of art to people around the world. There are many genres, graphic novels can
fall into, but a large majority of them will always be fiction because then the authors can expand more into their stories than they can with non–fiction.
"Today, images still have the power to elicit a variety of responses." (Horowitz, pg. 8). This was something I noticed with graphic novels when they
mention the usage of genders in the stories. Fictional graphic novels, no matter what their genre is, have unique ways of interpreting the theme of
genders into their stories to get a message to the audience about them. However, I feel that one graphic novel I have discovered online, does one of
the best jobs of incorporating an LGBTQA+ theme into its story while combining it with a unique setting, lovely character designs, and helping
someone understand themselves. Rock and Riot is an online graphic novel that began in March, 2015 by queer New Zealand animation student,
Chesley Furedi. One of the things that made Rock and Riot stand out to me from other online novels was how it took place in the 1950ies with its
mixed cast of LGBT+ characters; a time frame where the community was not widely accepted as much as it is today. I think the time setting is
important because it shows that

Science Fiction Film Genre Analysis Paper
Genre Definition Paper The science fiction film genre is absolutely the hardest to define. It can easily be confused with or applied to Fantasy films
and some horror films as well. Genres are used to identify types of films, and outside of science fiction this is a fairly simple process. A Western is
set in the west and has cowboys and Indians. A gangster film has a plot revolving around the mafia. Ahorror film is centrally purposed to scare the
viewer. Science fiction, on the other hand, is not easy to nail down what it is. Some critics would list certain films as science fiction, and an equally
acclaimed critic may not include a certain fil in the science fiction genre. I will present four different definitions of the science fiction...show more

This definition sees to fall in line with the last due to its use of the word "speculative". This means that what this genre puts to us in its plot should
not be written off as impossible or ridiculous, but is possible. This shows that we watch it to get a feeling of making the unknown known and the
unproven proved. We watch to see things that we may not see in our lifetime because they are so improbable, but they are possible, and therefore
provides for interesting and engaging films within the genre. The genre may discuss known or unknown worlds that could include everything from
distant alien worlds to other dimensions, but just because they are unknown to us does not mean they do not exist. Something I've neglected to
mention thus far is that the genre relies on plausibility as well due to how much imagination is required. If you see black and white and cannot wrap
your head around the ideas or plotlines presented in a science fiction film, it does not mean that the film is not good, it means the viewer is not
capable of grasping the artistic and plausible elements presented for entertainment. The fourth and final definition that I will present is the longest, but
I will wade through the pros and cons of this definition. It is as follows: "Science fiction film is a film genre that uses science fiction: speculative,

Genre Analysis Paper
Genre analysis is an attempt to explain why members of specific discourse communities employ different and special ways of using language.
Sociocultural aspects of language and existing differences among the contexts in which a language is used may, to some extent, answer this question.
In addition, cognitive strategies applied by the speakers or writers may also play a role since the members of each language community use different
strategies to achieve their desired goals (Bhatia, 1996). According to a definition given by Martin (1985), "genres are how things get done, when
language is used to accomplish them". As implicitly found in this definition, any genre analysis must be a detailed description of linguistic elementsof a

Negative politeness, on the other hand, is shown when a person wants to avoid intrusion, defer to someone by giving a superior form of address such
as sir, apologize for something wrong she has done.
Having the definition of politeness and the intended purpose of the study, the first thing to be done is to examine the particular organization of the text,
the use of a particular vocabulary and the use of particular grammatical structure. That is to say that the whole linguistic materials employed in this
context, which altogether make the rhetorical strategies of the context to fulfill the purpose of politeness, should also be thoroughly examined.
The second thing to be investigated is to analyze the relationship between the sender of the message and its receiver. Here in the current context, the
lawyer or her client (either of the accuser or the accused) is the sender of the message and the judge (or the jury) is the receiver.
The kind of relationship between these individuals should also be defined. Politeness is expected to be observed from inferiors to superiors and here
the receiver of the message has the authority and power to decide on behalf of the receiver. Therefore, it can be expected here that the linguistic
materials used by the lawyers and her clients in the court reflect courtesy.
Regarding the situational context, it is observed that sender tries to influence the receiver about the decisions being made later. On

Essay #3 Genre Analysis The main focus of the Problem Solution essay is to analyze different topics related to the subject of "image" in Asian
American studies. This essays aims to go more in depth about the problems that surround the subject of "image" and then creating a solution to these
issues. In order to get to a solution one must first come up with a method that includes thinking of a topic that is closely related to the subject of image,
present said topic to the professor, compose an outline for a rough draft and eventually a final draft. This process will ultimately allow the student to
further evaluate and resolve other issue in Asian American studies. While the reader of the essay better understands the problems thatwriting can have,

Genre Analysis Principles
In order to complete the DCR, it is necessary to understand a few key principles of genre analysis. These principles include: Beaufort's five domains of
knowledge, discourse community attitudes and values, rhetorical and other textual features.
The rhetorical and other textual features can be divided into sub–principles such as content, function, format and different rhetoric appeals. For genre
analysis, the content rhetorical feature is used to reflect the textual organization of different components of said genre. For example, a research article
genre is highly organized, and arranged in the following sections: an abstract, an introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references. This
principle mainly looks at how the content and material of the genre is displayed, and how this display is best...show more content...
The Wadsworth Guide explains how logos appeals to reason and logic, ethos appeals to credibility and authority, and pathos appeals to emotions (page
183). These features, in the light of rhetor, are used to see how the genre garners the attention of the audience.
Beaufort's five domains are genre knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, subject matter knowledge, writing process knowledge, and discourse community
knowledge. These domains are vital to the process of genre analysis, and the one discussed in the Data Collection Report is subject matter knowledge.
Subject matter knowledge pertains to knowledge of expertise for said discourse community. In the genre analysis, we look at how the rhetor of the
genre displays the extent of expertise about the discourse community, as well as how the genre adds to existing subject matter knowledge.
The last section of the genre analysis was the critique. This section of the genre analysis pertains to suggestion of possible changes in them by me. I

The musical film has always held a special place for me. From my time as a drama student in high school, my eyes have been opened to the amazing
world of the musical and especially the musical film. The musical film is a film genre in which the characters sing songs that are integrated into the
overall story. Since musicals first began in theaters, musical films usually contain similar elements. These elements often simulate that there is a live
audience watching. In a sense, the film viewers become the audience members, at a theater production, as the actor performs directly to them. Due to
the popularity of musicals in the theater, the style was quickly brought over into film. In 1927, the musical film genre began...show more content...
The film was nominated for a number of awards, including a GLAAD Media Award for Best Picture Musical/Comedy. They may seem quite different
on the surface; however, the similarities they do have in common are mainly due to the genre they share. This is shown by the use of music, production
design, and film techniques.
The use of music is a key to determining if a film is in the musical genre. Not only are songs used to further the story along in a musical, but they
also have the ability to put the audience in the emotional state of the character singing. Song has always been used as a good conductor for
emotional understanding. For example, during the song "You Were Meant for Me" in Singin' in the Rain, Don Lockwood is able to confess his
love to Kathy Selden in a way that feels magical and shows a connection between the two would be lovers. Also, the song "There Are Worse Things
I Could Do" in Grease is able to betray the emotional depth of the character Rizzo's fear, shame, and anger. At the time this film came out, topics
such as teen pregnancy were not generally presented in films. By having this character sing her issue, the audiences, who may have dismissed her
outright for her actions, are able to sympathize with her plight. Moreover, in Rent, the song "I'll Cover You" by Angel and Collins allow the viewer to
get caught up in this young couple's relationship without having to worry or even consider that this is a gay couple.

Essay On Genre Analysis
How I approached writing my Genre Analysis:
I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper,
I looked for the sections in a research paper that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This
helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was not.
How I found my sources:
I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most interested. I have known people that have smoked during
pregnancy and what happened to their child so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking....show more content...
Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This
helped me write my paper because we were to describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze the
effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most difficult part in the paper because after gaining your
input on that you should not say "I believe" I understand why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when proofreading
go back and delete it because it sounds better stating why x causes y.
What went well in my Genre Analysis:
After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of information in my paper. I went over the minimum word
count because I felt that it was necessary because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went well in my
paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text citations and references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me
since from my understanding I did them right and want to do well on the test paper.
What did not go well in my Genre

In the past I had to write a lot of this kind of assignment. I used to practice a lot, to start write good essays. With time, I understand how I have to
organize my writing assignment, and which type of vocabulary I need to use. Also, persuasive essays are very interesting for me. They are more
complicated for me. However, if you understand well what is the main idea of the essay, and if you find a certain way to explain your audience all

Writing Genre Analysis

  • 1. Writing Genre Analysis Translating one genre into another one requires creative thinking and forces writer to adapt to the needs of a new audience. In this assignment, I chose to translate an entertainment article into a scientific journal. Specifically, I wanted to change the genre of an article titled "Gavin Rossdale Cheated on Gwen Stefani With the Family Nanny for Years "Right Under" Her Nose: Details" turn it into a scientific journal. The scientific journal will then discusses women's reaction to cheating in relationship. I decided to do this since these two genres of writing seem to be a complete opposite. They are opposite in a sense that entertainment journalism tend to have subjective approach with storytelling format and informal word choices whereas scientific ...show more content... I think the hardest part of this assignment is making sure that the article that I am translating to reflects the characteristics of the actual genre. Although this was initially challenging, I was able to overcome these confusion by studying more about both the magazine article and the scientific journal and analyzing the writing conventions that each of these genres have. By studying more about the genres and actually translating the piece myself, I was able to get a deeper understanding of the writing choices and the purpose of these two genres. As mentioned in Kerry Dirk's "Navigating Genres" article, each genre has certain characteristics or conventions that define them (Dirk, 258). This assignment helped me understand the choices that authors made in these two genres in order to attract their own target audience and purpose. For example, I learned that entertainment articles like to use words such as "shocking" and "exclusive news" because they are trying to attract readers while scientific journals prefer less of this. In addition to using Dirk's "Navigating Genres" article, I also used Mike Bunn's "How to Read Like a Writer" article to help me in this translating process. As explained by Bunn, when we read like a writer, we identify some of the choices that the authors made so then we could have better understanding of how such choices might appear in our own writing (Bunn, 22). By learning how to read like a writer and applying it to reading the original article, I was able to notice the choices that she had made and decide which parts of it that I would want to keep for the new translated Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Examples Of Genre Analysis Literature review Genre analysis, literally is to analyze a piece of genre which is "a staged, goal–oriented, purposeful activity"in which speakers/writers engaged to express a certain meaning (Martin,1984,p.25). In other words, people use language in various occasions, for some certain purposes, perceived to be a meaningful and coherent whole which focus on communicative function: "language"in action or "language in use" , can be called as a type of text or discourse. While genre analysis is treated as discourse analysis more like a text analysis. Text is a record of communicative event while discourse refers to the interpretation of the communicative event in context (Nunan,1993),which shows discourse connects text with context. • 3. Genre Analysis Essay No matter which type of job or career the author is looking for, a resume is a great first step. Generally, resumes are built and created in early adulthood by the author them self. There are a few things that can be assumed about the authors. First, they are middle to upper class individuals who like to show off their own personal qualifications, education, and academic and professional experiences they have obtained throughout their life. The audience in which will be looking over these resumes could be a pretty broad range generally speaking, but for the most part whoever the author is submitting the resume to will be the intended audience for this genre. I think it is safe to say this genre will be around for many years to come,...show more content... The example of the author wanting to become a teacher states, "Excellent background and proven success in helping children reach their full potential" (O'Neill). This statement clearly states that she has been a teacher in the past and has proof that she has helped her students to success and reach their full potential. Not only are the qualifications important but also the education in which the author has had. Under the education portion of the content it tells the audience where the author went to school and which type of degree they earned at the school and in what year. Another category placed on a resume is the academic and professional experience the author has had prior to creating their resume. The author who is applying for a business job placed under her academic and professional experience that she was a part of All Talk Radio in Terre Haute, Indiana where she was the Vice President of Marketing. The author states while being a part of All Talk Radio she increased the audience of student –run radio station 40 percent by establishing 13 member marketing department (Kim). In stating this, the author is showing the audience that she can make an impact on the company in which she is applying for. Although the content of the genre is important the structure of the genre is also important for the author to take into consideration. The structure of a resume starts off with the authors name, which is bolded and large in font to catch the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Genre Analysis Across Genres Over many years, genre has become an important role in everyone's life. Scholarly authors such as Winsor, Pare, Berkenkotter, and Huckin, have noticed this trend and how it is important for people to understand this concept in order to understand writing. Some of these trends are noticeable in social groups such as businesses, educational settings, and other discourse communities in which they all were simplified to a specific standard within their group. These genres will facilitate activities, impact social relationships, identities, and structure communities. It is important to know that not all communities will share common genres; in fact, they might vary heavily. In the field of education, there is a difference between school reports of students and state reports of students. It is common for these reports to have the same information, but at the same time, there is also information that will vary....show more content... Genres have the basic ability to facilitate the activities in which a group or individual partakes in. As we saw in the state and local reports, they had some similar information such as graphs and charts with state or local assessments that students took, generic information on teachers and the school, and also had to be accessible on varying platforms such as paper or computer to take into consideration those who are not able to get either or. These ideas help shape the education community such as who they are, and their goals to better students development. It is important for education majors in college and current educators to understand how this process works so they get the most out of the system. I know many education classes talk about teacher criteria and what is expected of them. These norms have been created by state and government officials, and will always play a role in how the education system Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The 100 is about when the nuclear Armageddon destroys civilization on Earth, the only survivors are those on the 12 international space stations in orbit at the time. Clarke is one of the main character in the show, her father died when he got floated to space. There were rules in space; if you don't follow it you will get floated to space. • 6. Movie Analysis : Film And Film Genre Essay There are many different types of film and film genres. A film can fit into more than one genre, but there are some genres that are more general than others. Some examples of film genre are animated, science fiction, documentary, comedy, and historical fiction. Within each genre, there are also specific characteristics that help support themes and story lines within that genre. An animated movie is a drawing, painted, or digitally created film that uses stop–frame cinematography to simulate movement. The best example of an animated movie is Spirited Away. This film came out in 2001 and was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film revolves around Chihiro, a girl who must grow up quickly and save her parents from a spirit world. The theme of the film is that there is both good and evil in the world and part of growing up is finding the line between good and evil. In almost every animated film you will find a family friend theme and a fast paced story. This is mainly because most animated films are aimed toward children and families. As a result of this, animated films usually revolve around growing up and taking responsibility, or other themes that will benefit children. Spirited Away is the best example of an animated movie because it is fast paced, has great themes, and is engaging to both children and adults. When children watch Spirited Away they will love the themes or growing up and taking responsibility and exploring the fantasy world inside the film. Adults will also Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Genre Analysis History Museum Introduction The primary topic of the website and magazine is to give a brief overview about the history museum. Both genres provide readers with two different sources of information about the museum and basic information. The website covers more up to date events and information, and was developed to be a persuasion method to attract the audience to visit the museum. A lot of the information on the website promotes the museum. For example: the site has a visit tab and gives basic information on one page to make is easily accessible for future visitors. On the other hand, the primary topic of the magazine is to give the current museum audience a condensed version of the website and covers the most important topics. Overall both genres play off each other, and both have their own representation of the museum. Throughout this essay we will closely examine the genres; content, structure, design choice, how each genre evokes emotions, and view the different aspects of each and how they target their audience. The purpose of this genre analysis is to examine the efficacy of the chosen genres. In examining...show more content... • 8. Romantic Comedy Genre Analysis Genre in film began as a sort of "commercial tool" which showed audiences recognizable film content in order to attract customers (Campbell and Swenson). As the film industry grew, this content began to be more specialized, allowing the audience to know exactly what to expect from the film they were seeing. For example, films within the same genre share the same myths, iconography, and conventions. This means they have similarities in aspects such as plot, characters, themes, moods, ways of doing things particular to that genre, and repeated visual and oral elements such as images and sounds. Often genre films are influenced by the social culture of the time in which they are produced, and the content in the film tend to propose a solution to the current problems within society. These resolutions are often portrayed by a main protagonists who is presented with a conflict; the film then concludes with the character reaching a solution to the problem that is not only logical, but moral as well. Within the romantic comedy genre specifically, the storyline usually follows a couple rather than a protagonist. The romantic comedy, or rom com, genre has often been ruled "a purely escapist and conservative genre, accused of unquestioningly presenting unrealistic romantic fantasies for passive audiences" (MacDowell). From its earliest days, romantic comedy films have mostly focused on finding romance and the idea that love is the key to a fulfilled and delighted life. However, this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. People have always enjoyed graphic novels for as long as they have been around. They have been used to spread around an important message, politic viewpoints, explore new ideas in literature, and expose different styles of art to people around the world. There are many genres, graphic novels can fall into, but a large majority of them will always be fiction because then the authors can expand more into their stories than they can with non–fiction. "Today, images still have the power to elicit a variety of responses." (Horowitz, pg. 8). This was something I noticed with graphic novels when they mention the usage of genders in the stories. Fictional graphic novels, no matter what their genre is, have unique ways of interpreting the theme of genders into their stories to get a message to the audience about them. However, I feel that one graphic novel I have discovered online, does one of the best jobs of incorporating an LGBTQA+ theme into its story while combining it with a unique setting, lovely character designs, and helping someone understand themselves. Rock and Riot is an online graphic novel that began in March, 2015 by queer New Zealand animation student, Chesley Furedi. One of the things that made Rock and Riot stand out to me from other online novels was how it took place in the 1950ies with its mixed cast of LGBT+ characters; a time frame where the community was not widely accepted as much as it is today. I think the time setting is important because it shows that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Science Fiction Film Genre Analysis Paper Genre Definition Paper The science fiction film genre is absolutely the hardest to define. It can easily be confused with or applied to Fantasy films and some horror films as well. Genres are used to identify types of films, and outside of science fiction this is a fairly simple process. A Western is set in the west and has cowboys and Indians. A gangster film has a plot revolving around the mafia. Ahorror film is centrally purposed to scare the viewer. Science fiction, on the other hand, is not easy to nail down what it is. Some critics would list certain films as science fiction, and an equally acclaimed critic may not include a certain fil in the science fiction genre. I will present four different definitions of the science fiction...show more content... This definition sees to fall in line with the last due to its use of the word "speculative". This means that what this genre puts to us in its plot should not be written off as impossible or ridiculous, but is possible. This shows that we watch it to get a feeling of making the unknown known and the unproven proved. We watch to see things that we may not see in our lifetime because they are so improbable, but they are possible, and therefore provides for interesting and engaging films within the genre. The genre may discuss known or unknown worlds that could include everything from distant alien worlds to other dimensions, but just because they are unknown to us does not mean they do not exist. Something I've neglected to mention thus far is that the genre relies on plausibility as well due to how much imagination is required. If you see black and white and cannot wrap your head around the ideas or plotlines presented in a science fiction film, it does not mean that the film is not good, it means the viewer is not capable of grasping the artistic and plausible elements presented for entertainment. The fourth and final definition that I will present is the longest, but I will wade through the pros and cons of this definition. It is as follows: "Science fiction film is a film genre that uses science fiction: speculative, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Genre Analysis Paper Genre analysis is an attempt to explain why members of specific discourse communities employ different and special ways of using language. Sociocultural aspects of language and existing differences among the contexts in which a language is used may, to some extent, answer this question. In addition, cognitive strategies applied by the speakers or writers may also play a role since the members of each language community use different strategies to achieve their desired goals (Bhatia, 1996). According to a definition given by Martin (1985), "genres are how things get done, when language is used to accomplish them". As implicitly found in this definition, any genre analysis must be a detailed description of linguistic elementsof a specific...show more content... Negative politeness, on the other hand, is shown when a person wants to avoid intrusion, defer to someone by giving a superior form of address such as sir, apologize for something wrong she has done. Having the definition of politeness and the intended purpose of the study, the first thing to be done is to examine the particular organization of the text, the use of a particular vocabulary and the use of particular grammatical structure. That is to say that the whole linguistic materials employed in this context, which altogether make the rhetorical strategies of the context to fulfill the purpose of politeness, should also be thoroughly examined. The second thing to be investigated is to analyze the relationship between the sender of the message and its receiver. Here in the current context, the lawyer or her client (either of the accuser or the accused) is the sender of the message and the judge (or the jury) is the receiver. The kind of relationship between these individuals should also be defined. Politeness is expected to be observed from inferiors to superiors and here the receiver of the message has the authority and power to decide on behalf of the receiver. Therefore, it can be expected here that the linguistic materials used by the lawyers and her clients in the court reflect courtesy. Regarding the situational context, it is observed that sender tries to influence the receiver about the decisions being made later. On Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Genre Analysis Example Essay #3 Genre Analysis The main focus of the Problem Solution essay is to analyze different topics related to the subject of "image" in Asian American studies. This essays aims to go more in depth about the problems that surround the subject of "image" and then creating a solution to these issues. In order to get to a solution one must first come up with a method that includes thinking of a topic that is closely related to the subject of image, present said topic to the professor, compose an outline for a rough draft and eventually a final draft. This process will ultimately allow the student to further evaluate and resolve other issue in Asian American studies. While the reader of the essay better understands the problems thatwriting can have, the writer also presents and realizes how "genre" can cause different recurrences within social interactions. The assignment sheet states the...show more content... Also the use of outside documents, which were apparently previously presented in the class, in the assignment sheet like "Takaki's strategy" and the "'Paper Structure' handout," present problems when people outside of the "peers" and the instructor read this essay. The requirements call for the student to turn in other assignments with the actual final draft, which may enhance the understanding of the finished piece. • 13. Genre Analysis Principles In order to complete the DCR, it is necessary to understand a few key principles of genre analysis. These principles include: Beaufort's five domains of knowledge, discourse community attitudes and values, rhetorical and other textual features. The rhetorical and other textual features can be divided into sub–principles such as content, function, format and different rhetoric appeals. For genre analysis, the content rhetorical feature is used to reflect the textual organization of different components of said genre. For example, a research article genre is highly organized, and arranged in the following sections: an abstract, an introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references. This principle mainly looks at how the content and material of the genre is displayed, and how this display is best...show more content... The Wadsworth Guide explains how logos appeals to reason and logic, ethos appeals to credibility and authority, and pathos appeals to emotions (page 183). These features, in the light of rhetor, are used to see how the genre garners the attention of the audience. Beaufort's five domains are genre knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, subject matter knowledge, writing process knowledge, and discourse community knowledge. These domains are vital to the process of genre analysis, and the one discussed in the Data Collection Report is subject matter knowledge. Subject matter knowledge pertains to knowledge of expertise for said discourse community. • 14. Genre Analysis Nina Hagen Wrtg 1010–20 Using the Genre of a children's story to articulate with monsters In Gordimers story "Once upon a time" uses the genre of a children's story to articulate monsters in a suburban family by using the theme of a fairytale that clashes with the theme of a childrens story so he can use "monsters" in a suburban family. Gordimer uses phrases that kind of gives him the excuse to go in and articulate the monsters into the genre of a children's story. • 15. Genre Analysis Essay Genre Analysis The musical film has always held a special place for me. From my time as a drama student in high school, my eyes have been opened to the amazing world of the musical and especially the musical film. The musical film is a film genre in which the characters sing songs that are integrated into the overall story. Since musicals first began in theaters, musical films usually contain similar elements. These elements often simulate that there is a live audience watching. In a sense, the film viewers become the audience members, at a theater production, as the actor performs directly to them. Due to the popularity of musicals in the theater, the style was quickly brought over into film. In 1927, the musical film genre began...show more content... The film was nominated for a number of awards, including a GLAAD Media Award for Best Picture Musical/Comedy. They may seem quite different on the surface; however, the similarities they do have in common are mainly due to the genre they share. This is shown by the use of music, production design, and film techniques. The use of music is a key to determining if a film is in the musical genre. Not only are songs used to further the story along in a musical, but they also have the ability to put the audience in the emotional state of the character singing. Song has always been used as a good conductor for emotional understanding. For example, during the song "You Were Meant for Me" in Singin' in the Rain, Don Lockwood is able to confess his love to Kathy Selden in a way that feels magical and shows a connection between the two would be lovers. Also, the song "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" in Grease is able to betray the emotional depth of the character Rizzo's fear, shame, and anger. At the time this film came out, topics such as teen pregnancy were not generally presented in films. By having this character sing her issue, the audiences, who may have dismissed her outright for her actions, are able to sympathize with her plight. Moreover, in Rent, the song "I'll Cover You" by Angel and Collins allow the viewer to get caught up in this young couple's relationship without having to worry or even consider that this is a gay couple. • 16. Essay On Genre Analysis How I approached writing my Genre Analysis: I approached my genre writing based on Writing in the Health Sciences guidelines for research papers. Since my chosen paper was a research paper, I looked for the sections in a research paper that included the abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. This helped me decide what needed to be in each section so I could elaborate on if it was included or was not. How I found my sources: I started out by going through articles on google scholar and found the one that made me most interested. I have known people that have smoked during pregnancy and what happened to their child so I wanted to see if children could potentially have asthma from their mom smoking....show more content... Here I also stated if my paper had that convention and if they had any variation in a research paper regarding to Writing in the Health Sciences. This helped me write my paper because we were to describe each convention in our genre analysis so it gave me a start. It also helped me analyze the effectiveness of the genre which was step 4 in our paper. Here in step 4 I think was my most difficult part in the paper because after gaining your input on that you should not say "I believe" I understand why it sounds more confident. I will now write my ideas as such, but then when proofreading go back and delete it because it sounds better stating why x causes y. What went well in my Genre Analysis: After receiving your comment on my genre analysis paper, I noticed that I did have a lot of information in my paper. I went over the minimum word count because I felt that it was necessary because I wanted to incorporate the information from the study into my paper. What also went well in my paper was that I appropriately cited information in APA, which included in text citations and references. If I did these wrong, I wish you could tell me since from my understanding I did them right and want to do well on the test paper. What did not go well in my Genre Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Genre Analysis Paper A genre is a form of communication such as writing, a poster, or a blog within a particular discipline. Genre analysis provides better understanding of how language is used within a significant discourse community, and is a form of applied linguistics in which draws on linguistic and sociolinguistic theory to clarify the nature of language use and language learning in an education setting. In this paper, I will be analyzing some scientific abstracts for the engineering discourse community. The analyzation will be focusing more onresearch articles, thesis, reviews, conference proceeding, and engineering journals in electrical engineering. They both have one thing in common which is an abstract. An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference...show more content... For the IEE papers, it was written and research performed by engineers. They have conducted a thorough review of community literature resources, and used them to back up their arguments. Research methodologies used are mentioned in both abstract and introduction sections to avoid fabrications. The hypothesis of the researches are linked directly with the evidences that have already known within the community. Although, more often the hypothesis might have been supported by other evidence in the literature, any new revelations are essential in providing a strong foundation upon which the next, higher level queries can be explored. It requires a well–designed set of experiments, carefully and methodically implemented, analyzed in the most proper way, and explained in adequate details so that it can be reused. The scientific advancement depends on such rigorous work, and is an ideal in the community, as it would generate a literature of high integrity that stands up over time and provides real value to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
