October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper
It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any
case, I am happy that I am taking the class and learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my
way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the class. As I discovered what the class would have
been similar to, I let myself know I was going to attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each
paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do. A standout amongst the most troublesome...show

I have an unmistakable view in my head of what I am going to compose and what structures I have to utilize. Things have ended up less difficult now
since I don't need to experience the battle of how things are done or on the chance that I don't understand how I should do what I am expected to do.
These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over having a written assignment.
This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to this class, I had little experience with how to
build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and getting normal evaluations, to show me how to precisely write. Despite the fact that this course
required different papers to be turned in, I am appreciative to have possessed the capacity to gain from my oversights and develop as a writer. I have
constantly cherished written work, however now I am ready to improve my writing as the semester

English 101 Reflective Essay
English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a short–term English class, I
thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that
existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multi–modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project,
what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and
ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I
previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found
that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate
by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought
tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more

For some reason, transitions are the hardest aspect of writing a paper. I will try my best to practice writing the best transitions. My summaries have
been unnecessarily lengthy because get excited about my writing or the topics I write about. I felt so bad for Professor Granillo because my second
essay has a summary that was a page long. She must have been so annoyed, but I thought I was giving her the proper information. I just need to
remember that the bulk of the information goes in the following body paragraphs. I have some things to work on, but feel comfortable with my growth

Why Do I Learn English 101
English has been one of my least favorite subjects for pretty much my entire life. I truly do dread taking English. I feel as though I read at the speed
of a turtle's pace and have a reading comprehension comparable to a gold fish. My writing on the other hand is like a sports car without tires. I'll have
several ideas racing through my mind, but I'm just not quite able to get them out on paper or at least clearly out on paper. I'm taking English 101 not
simply because it's required, but because I truly do need it. I need to strengthening my skills in reading and writing. My goals for this course are to
work on strengthening my fluency, structure, grammar, and mechanics in writing. And Also, work on strengthening my reading comprehension.

Packed a Tons of Knowledge from English 101 Did I learn anything? The short answer is yes, of course, I learned something. But since that is not
good enough for this paper I will explore further. So my ONLY goal this semester was to get 'A' so that I can increase my GPA, and that is the most
important thing to me right now. So not getting an 'A' will make me hate this class, label myself a failure, and cause me to bang my head against the
wall until I forget everything. I came into this class with a predetermined notion on how to write papers. What I had taught in high school was that you
had an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. And the introduction was only one...show more content...
As I had never written any research paper in my life, I found it quite complicated. But, I passionately gave lots of time for the paper. As a result, I
learned to write a good argumentative research paper. I learned to make the paper more effective by supporting my point with strong evidences from
reliable sources, defending all the possible contra arguments with proof, and finally convincing the readers with my opinion. Besides that, I also gained
a very good knowledge on different important factors like citations, attractive introductory paragraph, and thesis statement. In addition Organization of
the paper, importance of proper transition and most importantly the APA and MLA format was a key factor to learn

English 101 Analysis
In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by
concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read. Before
English 101 I used to read and not analyze what I read. This would make it real hard for me to understand what I just read. And when I would read I
would skip many words because of how fast I read the book. I would read the book but would have no clue what I just had read. But once I analyzed
the book it helped me enjoy reading. The first step I took was to pace myself well I was reading. And when I would read quickly and not understand I
would read the

English 101 Goals
When I started out the year I had three goals when it came to English 101. The first of my goals was that I was going to try and make a good grade
in the class so I did not have to take it again and move to 102 to be caught up with my friends. I did not accomplish this goal because I have been
trying very hard but obviously it just was not enough. My second goal was for me to try hard no matter what and make my parents proud. I did
accomplish this one to a point I did try my hardest but I probably have disappointed my parents for not doing good in the class the first time around.
My final goal was to make new friends when doing peer reviews. I have accomplished this goal I have made friend with Madison, and Ethan this year
during peer review day. Revising has never really been my strongest point when it comes to writing papers. Usually when I would write papers whether
it would be in high school or even for myself I would just turn it in the way it was and not even attempt to revise the paper and would get good grades
on them. Even if I would revise them then all I would check is the word placement and commas to see if they all were correct and then turn it in for
the final grading and I would always get a high grade on the paper. This year I really had to learn to revise better and I...show more content...
I looked for grammar to start out with which took a little while because I had to check the punctuations and commas and see if they were placed
right. Then I checked to see if all the words were spelled right and see if I was missing any words that would make a sentence better within a
paragraph. After all of this was done then I went back to see if there were any quotes that needed quotation marks and I even attempted to paraphrase
every now and then. That is how I went about revising both my research paper and my analysis

To begin with, I joined English 101 because I am doing general studies at the moment. Secondly, I took the placement test and the score I received
was best suited for English 101. In addition, writing was never my strongest subject, but I am willing to put the effort to be a better writer. I expect to
gain from taking English 101 is to argue and support a position, edit and proofread thoroughly, and understand the stages of the writing process. I'm
sure I will have concerns in the future, but I'm not worried about them because I will seek for help when I'm in need. Furthermore, I will use all
resources available such as going to the teacher for help, getting toured, EMCC Computer Commons, Buckeye Campus– Student Services, EMCC

English 101 Made Me a Better Writer
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In
my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also
learned a lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research
essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on
essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self–confidence and skills to
take on the world on my own. During the beginning of the English 101 when we began the writing process: I thought at first that we spent too
much time on our essays but I soon realized how important it was spending time on the essays to improve them . The revisions that my teacher and
classmates made on my essays were truly helpful for me because it allowed me to better my writing. For every week in the entire course we went
over the MLA formatting process, annotating, citing within the essay, and how to make the paper flow better. I had the most troubles in this quarter
when I started writing some of my essays for my portfolio because I didn't have a clue how to start them at first. After a while of brainstorming ideas
and seeing examples the teacher

English 101 was a general education course I had to be enrolled in. I personally chose this section number because it was the last one available in the
morning and didn't interfere with my job and other class. My overall experience was great, it's a great environment if you put the time and effort to
advance in your reading and writing abilities. I believe I have came along way compared to the work and effort I gave in the beginning of the class.
Looking back at what I've accomplished in this course I feel like an appropriate grade to receive would be a B. The readings in this course were not
complicated, but at some point were time consuming. Knowing how to manage your time can be really important due to assignment that come along
with it. I personally always disliked reading especially if it was something long and out of my interest. On the other hand this course consisted of

One day of absence can affect you and your grade if something was missed. In the entire semester I was unable to attend two sessions due to
sickness, but I knew what had to be done and due the next class which is what is important. I was also try a hand full of times but never to the
point where I missed something important being said or assignments being given. I hate not knowing what has to be done or how to do an
assignment which is why I try my hardest to always attend every class. Up to this point attendance has not affected my education and its something I
will continue doing. English 101 has overall taught me many things from personal essays to research papers and citing sources. Reading
assignments, essays, and attendance would of affected my grade if I didn't take the course seriously. I overall think I did a good job keeping up with
the class from going to school to completing all assignments given. I might not have gotten A's on all four essays but effort

My English 101 Experience
As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a
writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to
apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how
to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing
skills are shown within each essay. When I first signed up for English 101 at soar, I thought it was more of a reading and comprehension class...show

I now see myself as a writer who has learned new techniques to help improve my writing including style, word choice and the revision process.
Even though I see myself as a improved writer, I still believe I have plenty of room for improvement. When I first started English 101, I saw myself
as having a few good strengths and a lot of weaknesses as a writer. Some of my strengths included being able to write a good introduction minus the
thesis part. I also saw myself as knowing how to write a good conclusion that summarized what I talked about in my essay and being able to
understand a article or essay by knowing what the author was talking about. Some of the improvements I saw in my writing thorough out the
semester is learning how to write an essay where I can communicate with the audience with my own personal voice. I also feel I improved on
knowing how to properly include quotes and how to find good creditable sources to include in my essay and on how to include both sides of a
argument in my paper. Another improvement I found in my papers is learning how to revise them and approach each essay. However, there are
some items of writing that I believe I improved on but still needs some work. For example, even though I have learned all about the rhetorical
appeals and how to determine them in a essay, I still feel as if I do not know how to properly included them in my essay. I also see myself as improving
on knowing how to write a thesis but still need work on

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and
done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the
middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my
essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I
use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing,
and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not
have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it
holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the
importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate
enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Applying the writing skills learned in English 101, which includes determining audience and purpose, organization, and grammar and mechanic usage,
is also a major goal for students in their second semester of freshman English. The ability for a writer to determine their audience and purpose is
essential for all writing. In my proposal essay advocating a plan to stop texting and driving I said "As the number of collisions from cell phone related
distractions rises, something must be done to significantly reduce the regularity of this event. This problem affects all age groups, sexes, and
ethnicities and it is in our hands as drivers to create safer, more responsible roadways." In these two sentences, I stated the purpose of my argument

My First Day Of English 101
My First day of English 101 I remember was already stressed out before walking into the classroom. Driving to my first day of college . I can
remember the class was almost full and one of the last seats was in the front of the room. I choose it to be my seat for the semester, I was close
enough so that I actually had to pay attention during class, this was not a problem to me because I actually enjoyed listening to Dr. Mills talk
lecture. They always had a different lesson to take away. The lessons followed what was being taught in the class. The lectures were not always
english related but still on topic with the class and that's what made listening to lectures interesting for me. Over the course of my 1st semester in
college, College composition has helped me improve as a writer and become more confident in essays. In the beginning of the class I was shy and
did not want to share what I had written when I would be called out to answer. Towards the end of the class I didn't fear answering a question or
asking for additional help on a task in class. I have learned that you can generally write about anything as long as there's a clear thesis statement.
The thesis statement followed by a well written essay is how to properly write an essay. It gives a road map of what to follow by and took the stress
off of me when it came time to constructing my essays. In high school I was never taught to make an outline to follow as I wrote, I just began my
essay and when the

English 101: English Composition Analysis
In Week one of English 101: English Composition August 2015 there are several reading and training activities. The first of these activities I
participated in was an introduction of me to the rest of the class. My introduction is very informal and just a brief summary of yourself. The next
activity that I embarked upon in week one of English Composition was a short reading assignment about rhetoric and then followed a set of module
notes concerning the writing process. In these modules I learned about the five steps of the writing process. The five step process gave me the brief
process of how I should be preparing to write for English 101. After the module notes there are two brief self–tests that the students can take. These test

Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric,
provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a
clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject
matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also
improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate
language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room
to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired
me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many
skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly

English class has never been my strong suite. I always had to work twice as hard in English then I did in any other class. Writing paper always had
me stressed and overwhelmed, I felt discouraged in my work. l never seemed to be able to get to the level I wanted to. I would try my hardest and
paid attention in class, but when it came to writing the paper none of that seemed to help. I think that my experience in English Composition 1 has

During high school, I seemed to get marked done for the tone used in my paper. I learned in this class that tone is a very important element in
writing a paper, and can help the paper flow better. My sentences in my high school papers didn't vary in length very well then. I always had a
problem with short choppy sentences. When writing my profile essay, research easy, and personal essay I tried to make sure I had a variety of
sentence lengths. I feel I gained some improve on this element, I know I still have issues but I have grown from where I was before. Some papers
were stronger than others and I struggled a bit more when constructing my paragraphs. My strongest paper in tone I would feel was my Personal
essay. "She wants them to believe they can do whatever their hearts desire but they have to be willing to work for it. As a mother, it's important to
work with your kids and help them discover how they learn best. It's important to teach your kids that there are going to be certain things that they
have to be willing to work harder at" (Profile Essay). During my essay writing process, I could fix these problems easier in the body paragraphs and
struggle a bit more with the intro paragraph. Overall I think that the element of tone was not my best work in my

My Opinion On English 101
English 101 has helped shape my writing in so many ways. I have grown and became more confident in the skills I portray. In–class workshops helped
me to receive feedback and new ideas from my peers. My view of English has changed drastically for the best. Along with my writing skills my
reading and critical thinking skills have also improved. I learned the importance of using ethos, pathos, and logos. Putting text in dialog has been a
struggle for me in the past but I now have a better grasp on it after taking English 101. I'm happy I had to take English 101 because it has helped
prepare for not only English 102 but my other classes as well. Making my paper ethical to everyone was a very important part of my writing. It was
most important to make sure all of my quotes were cited correctly. Going along with that, it was important to not twist the authors words. It is
wrong to try to take credit for someone else's work. The audience to my writing could be so many different people so the language I use is a big
deal. Certain words have different meanings and can be offensive if used incorrectly. In order to keep the papers ethical, it is important to choose
every word with care.
The in–class workshops helped the most because I was able to get multiple different view points instead of just mine. When we work shopped my
paper I was really nervous to hear what everyone had to say. After the class started to rip my paper apart, they began to point out all the areas that I did

Reflection On English 101
Growth, I believe, is inevitable when one is compelled to learn and apply that knowledge which has been presented to them. This semester has
proved to be a time of development, change, and substantial growth. During my time in English 101 I have had the chance to really explore new
genres of writing such as memoirs, rhetorical analyses, and persuasive essays. In this class I have been able to build upon old writing skills and
cultivate new ones; and I have also come to recognize what I like and dislike writing about through the completion of the assignments we were charged
with. Through this semester in English 101 I feel as though I have had the opportunity to enhance my ability to apply the rules of rhetoric to my work,
convey my thoughts and ideas with greater clarity, and recognize the places where I can improve my work through the revising process.
I entered this class with a general idea of what was going to be expected of me and what I was going to have to accomplish in order to be successful,
and I credit the extent of my preparation for this course to the extensive instruction and critiques provided for me by my high school teachers. By them
I was taught the fundamentals of composition which allowed me the time and energy to more deeply understand the intricacies of good writing which
I would be taught in college. Although I learned many new concepts in English 101, I feel as though I had a stable foundation to build on and enhance
with more refined skills.

My experience throughout English 101 Essay
My Experience throughout English 101
As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing
only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors
throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college
and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write
to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required.
In the...show more content...
Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense.
Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I
could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically.
"A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical
analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor.
This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays.
Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a
writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of
audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences. However, after writing several
unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what
matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and

English 101 Reflection Lessons Learned

  • 1. Reflection In English 101 Whitney Bailey Professor Johnson English 101 October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere. On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do. A standout amongst the most troublesome...show more content... I have an unmistakable view in my head of what I am going to compose and what structures I have to utilize. Things have ended up less difficult now since I don't need to experience the battle of how things are done or on the chance that I don't understand how I should do what I am expected to do. These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over having a written assignment. This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to this class, I had little experience with how to build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and getting normal evaluations, to show me how to precisely write. Despite the fact that this course required different papers to be turned in, I am appreciative to have possessed the capacity to gain from my oversights and develop as a writer. I have constantly cherished written work, however now I am ready to improve my writing as the semester Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. English 101 Reflective Essay English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a short–term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multi–modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content... For some reason, transitions are the hardest aspect of writing a paper. I will try my best to practice writing the best transitions. My summaries have been unnecessarily lengthy because get excited about my writing or the topics I write about. I felt so bad for Professor Granillo because my second essay has a summary that was a page long. She must have been so annoyed, but I thought I was giving her the proper information. I just need to remember that the bulk of the information goes in the following body paragraphs. I have some things to work on, but feel comfortable with my growth as a student and a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Why Do I Learn English 101 English has been one of my least favorite subjects for pretty much my entire life. I truly do dread taking English. I feel as though I read at the speed of a turtle's pace and have a reading comprehension comparable to a gold fish. My writing on the other hand is like a sports car without tires. I'll have several ideas racing through my mind, but I'm just not quite able to get them out on paper or at least clearly out on paper. I'm taking English 101 not simply because it's required, but because I truly do need it. I need to strengthening my skills in reading and writing. My goals for this course are to work on strengthening my fluency, structure, grammar, and mechanics in writing. And Also, work on strengthening my reading comprehension. • 4. English 101 Reflection Paper Bibek Amatya Professor David Clisbee English 101–43 December 12, 2014 Packed a Tons of Knowledge from English 101 Did I learn anything? The short answer is yes, of course, I learned something. But since that is not good enough for this paper I will explore further. So my ONLY goal this semester was to get 'A' so that I can increase my GPA, and that is the most important thing to me right now. So not getting an 'A' will make me hate this class, label myself a failure, and cause me to bang my head against the wall until I forget everything. I came into this class with a predetermined notion on how to write papers. What I had taught in high school was that you had an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. And the introduction was only one...show more content... As I had never written any research paper in my life, I found it quite complicated. But, I passionately gave lots of time for the paper. As a result, I learned to write a good argumentative research paper. I learned to make the paper more effective by supporting my point with strong evidences from reliable sources, defending all the possible contra arguments with proof, and finally convincing the readers with my opinion. Besides that, I also gained a very good knowledge on different important factors like citations, attractive introductory paragraph, and thesis statement. In addition Organization of the paper, importance of proper transition and most importantly the APA and MLA format was a key factor to learn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. English 101 Analysis In the past two months i fell like i have accomplished a great deal. As i focus on it more i realize i have become a better reader. I did this by concentrating on my readings and take my time to read them. With the help of my professor and classmates i began to analyze what i read. Before English 101 I used to read and not analyze what I read. This would make it real hard for me to understand what I just read. And when I would read I would skip many words because of how fast I read the book. I would read the book but would have no clue what I just had read. But once I analyzed the book it helped me enjoy reading. The first step I took was to pace myself well I was reading. And when I would read quickly and not understand I would read the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. English 101 Goals When I started out the year I had three goals when it came to English 101. The first of my goals was that I was going to try and make a good grade in the class so I did not have to take it again and move to 102 to be caught up with my friends. I did not accomplish this goal because I have been trying very hard but obviously it just was not enough. My second goal was for me to try hard no matter what and make my parents proud. I did accomplish this one to a point I did try my hardest but I probably have disappointed my parents for not doing good in the class the first time around. My final goal was to make new friends when doing peer reviews. I have accomplished this goal I have made friend with Madison, and Ethan this year during peer review day. Revising has never really been my strongest point when it comes to writing papers. Usually when I would write papers whether it would be in high school or even for myself I would just turn it in the way it was and not even attempt to revise the paper and would get good grades on them. Even if I would revise them then all I would check is the word placement and commas to see if they all were correct and then turn it in for the final grading and I would always get a high grade on the paper. This year I really had to learn to revise better and I...show more content... I looked for grammar to start out with which took a little while because I had to check the punctuations and commas and see if they were placed right. Then I checked to see if all the words were spelled right and see if I was missing any words that would make a sentence better within a paragraph. After all of this was done then I went back to see if there were any quotes that needed quotation marks and I even attempted to paraphrase every now and then. That is how I went about revising both my research paper and my analysis Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. English 101 Reflective Essay To begin with, I joined English 101 because I am doing general studies at the moment. Secondly, I took the placement test and the score I received was best suited for English 101. In addition, writing was never my strongest subject, but I am willing to put the effort to be a better writer. I expect to gain from taking English 101 is to argue and support a position, edit and proofread thoroughly, and understand the stages of the writing process. I'm sure I will have concerns in the future, but I'm not worried about them because I will seek for help when I'm in need. Furthermore, I will use all resources available such as going to the teacher for help, getting toured, EMCC Computer Commons, Buckeye Campus– Student Services, EMCC Library, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. English 101 Made Me a Better Writer Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn't learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self–confidence and skills to take on the world on my own. During the beginning of the English 101 when we began the writing process: I thought at first that we spent too much time on our essays but I soon realized how important it was spending time on the essays to improve them . The revisions that my teacher and classmates made on my essays were truly helpful for me because it allowed me to better my writing. For every week in the entire course we went over the MLA formatting process, annotating, citing within the essay, and how to make the paper flow better. I had the most troubles in this quarter when I started writing some of my essays for my portfolio because I didn't have a clue how to start them at first. After a while of brainstorming ideas and seeing examples the teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. English 101 Reflection Paper English 101 was a general education course I had to be enrolled in. I personally chose this section number because it was the last one available in the morning and didn't interfere with my job and other class. My overall experience was great, it's a great environment if you put the time and effort to advance in your reading and writing abilities. I believe I have came along way compared to the work and effort I gave in the beginning of the class. Looking back at what I've accomplished in this course I feel like an appropriate grade to receive would be a B. The readings in this course were not complicated, but at some point were time consuming. Knowing how to manage your time can be really important due to assignment that come along with it. I personally always disliked reading especially if it was something long and out of my interest. On the other hand this course consisted of capturing readings and I have...show more content... One day of absence can affect you and your grade if something was missed. In the entire semester I was unable to attend two sessions due to sickness, but I knew what had to be done and due the next class which is what is important. I was also try a hand full of times but never to the point where I missed something important being said or assignments being given. I hate not knowing what has to be done or how to do an assignment which is why I try my hardest to always attend every class. Up to this point attendance has not affected my education and its something I will continue doing. English 101 has overall taught me many things from personal essays to research papers and citing sources. Reading assignments, essays, and attendance would of affected my grade if I didn't take the course seriously. I overall think I did a good job keeping up with the class from going to school to completing all assignments given. I might not have gotten A's on all four essays but effort Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. My English 101 Experience As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay. When I first signed up for English 101 at soar, I thought it was more of a reading and comprehension class...show more content... I now see myself as a writer who has learned new techniques to help improve my writing including style, word choice and the revision process. Even though I see myself as a improved writer, I still believe I have plenty of room for improvement. When I first started English 101, I saw myself as having a few good strengths and a lot of weaknesses as a writer. Some of my strengths included being able to write a good introduction minus the thesis part. I also saw myself as knowing how to write a good conclusion that summarized what I talked about in my essay and being able to understand a article or essay by knowing what the author was talking about. Some of the improvements I saw in my writing thorough out the semester is learning how to write an essay where I can communicate with the audience with my own personal voice. I also feel I improved on knowing how to properly include quotes and how to find good creditable sources to include in my essay and on how to include both sides of a argument in my paper. Another improvement I found in my papers is learning how to revise them and approach each essay. However, there are some items of writing that I believe I improved on but still needs some work. For example, even though I have learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to determine them in a essay, I still feel as if I do not know how to properly included them in my essay. I also see myself as improving on knowing how to write a thesis but still need work on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Reflection On My English 101 Experience Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. English 101 Applying the writing skills learned in English 101, which includes determining audience and purpose, organization, and grammar and mechanic usage, is also a major goal for students in their second semester of freshman English. The ability for a writer to determine their audience and purpose is essential for all writing. In my proposal essay advocating a plan to stop texting and driving I said "As the number of collisions from cell phone related distractions rises, something must be done to significantly reduce the regularity of this event. This problem affects all age groups, sexes, and ethnicities and it is in our hands as drivers to create safer, more responsible roadways." In these two sentences, I stated the purpose of my argument which Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. My First Day Of English 101 My First day of English 101 I remember was already stressed out before walking into the classroom. Driving to my first day of college . I can remember the class was almost full and one of the last seats was in the front of the room. I choose it to be my seat for the semester, I was close enough so that I actually had to pay attention during class, this was not a problem to me because I actually enjoyed listening to Dr. Mills talk lecture. They always had a different lesson to take away. The lessons followed what was being taught in the class. The lectures were not always english related but still on topic with the class and that's what made listening to lectures interesting for me. Over the course of my 1st semester in college, College composition has helped me improve as a writer and become more confident in essays. In the beginning of the class I was shy and did not want to share what I had written when I would be called out to answer. Towards the end of the class I didn't fear answering a question or asking for additional help on a task in class. I have learned that you can generally write about anything as long as there's a clear thesis statement. The thesis statement followed by a well written essay is how to properly write an essay. It gives a road map of what to follow by and took the stress off of me when it came time to constructing my essays. In high school I was never taught to make an outline to follow as I wrote, I just began my essay and when the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. English 101: English Composition Analysis In Week one of English 101: English Composition August 2015 there are several reading and training activities. The first of these activities I participated in was an introduction of me to the rest of the class. My introduction is very informal and just a brief summary of yourself. The next activity that I embarked upon in week one of English Composition was a short reading assignment about rhetoric and then followed a set of module notes concerning the writing process. In these modules I learned about the five steps of the writing process. The five step process gave me the brief process of how I should be preparing to write for English 101. After the module notes there are two brief self–tests that the students can take. These test will allowed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Reflective Essay On English 101 Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. • 16. English 101 Reflective Essay English class has never been my strong suite. I always had to work twice as hard in English then I did in any other class. Writing paper always had me stressed and overwhelmed, I felt discouraged in my work. l never seemed to be able to get to the level I wanted to. I would try my hardest and paid attention in class, but when it came to writing the paper none of that seemed to help. I think that my experience in English Composition 1 has helped gain and grow in some areas, but I don't think that it highlights a well–written college essay. Some elements that I worked to improving was introduction paragraphs, tone, style, and thesis statements. Throughout my experience in English 101, I gained information on the element...show more content... During high school, I seemed to get marked done for the tone used in my paper. I learned in this class that tone is a very important element in writing a paper, and can help the paper flow better. My sentences in my high school papers didn't vary in length very well then. I always had a problem with short choppy sentences. When writing my profile essay, research easy, and personal essay I tried to make sure I had a variety of sentence lengths. I feel I gained some improve on this element, I know I still have issues but I have grown from where I was before. Some papers were stronger than others and I struggled a bit more when constructing my paragraphs. My strongest paper in tone I would feel was my Personal essay. "She wants them to believe they can do whatever their hearts desire but they have to be willing to work for it. As a mother, it's important to work with your kids and help them discover how they learn best. It's important to teach your kids that there are going to be certain things that they have to be willing to work harder at" (Profile Essay). During my essay writing process, I could fix these problems easier in the body paragraphs and struggle a bit more with the intro paragraph. Overall I think that the element of tone was not my best work in my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. My Opinion On English 101 English 101 has helped shape my writing in so many ways. I have grown and became more confident in the skills I portray. In–class workshops helped me to receive feedback and new ideas from my peers. My view of English has changed drastically for the best. Along with my writing skills my reading and critical thinking skills have also improved. I learned the importance of using ethos, pathos, and logos. Putting text in dialog has been a struggle for me in the past but I now have a better grasp on it after taking English 101. I'm happy I had to take English 101 because it has helped prepare for not only English 102 but my other classes as well. Making my paper ethical to everyone was a very important part of my writing. It was most important to make sure all of my quotes were cited correctly. Going along with that, it was important to not twist the authors words. It is wrong to try to take credit for someone else's work. The audience to my writing could be so many different people so the language I use is a big deal. Certain words have different meanings and can be offensive if used incorrectly. In order to keep the papers ethical, it is important to choose every word with care. The in–class workshops helped the most because I was able to get multiple different view points instead of just mine. When we work shopped my paper I was really nervous to hear what everyone had to say. After the class started to rip my paper apart, they began to point out all the areas that I did Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Reflection On English 101 Growth, I believe, is inevitable when one is compelled to learn and apply that knowledge which has been presented to them. This semester has proved to be a time of development, change, and substantial growth. During my time in English 101 I have had the chance to really explore new genres of writing such as memoirs, rhetorical analyses, and persuasive essays. In this class I have been able to build upon old writing skills and cultivate new ones; and I have also come to recognize what I like and dislike writing about through the completion of the assignments we were charged with. Through this semester in English 101 I feel as though I have had the opportunity to enhance my ability to apply the rules of rhetoric to my work, convey my thoughts and ideas with greater clarity, and recognize the places where I can improve my work through the revising process. I entered this class with a general idea of what was going to be expected of me and what I was going to have to accomplish in order to be successful, and I credit the extent of my preparation for this course to the extensive instruction and critiques provided for me by my high school teachers. By them I was taught the fundamentals of composition which allowed me the time and energy to more deeply understand the intricacies of good writing which I would be taught in college. Although I learned many new concepts in English 101, I feel as though I had a stable foundation to build on and enhance with more refined skills. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. My experience throughout English 101 Essay My Experience throughout English 101 As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required. In the...show more content... Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense. Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor. This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays. Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences. However, after writing several unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
