Controversial Animal Research
What does an ideal world look like? Some may respond with fantastical conceptions of a society in which famine is no longer an issue, clean drinking
water is readily available for every individual, war is expunged by love and people are filled with tolerance and understanding for one another, or
maybe one foresees an idealistic future in which disease, disorders, and disabilities alike are understood and are treated for via the most effective
means possible. While a few of these utopian ideals are a bit far–fetched for some to consider feasible, that should not halter our determination to
realize these goals. It is the responsibility of many scientists and doctors globally to contribute to the progress of achieving the last objective specifically.

No one with firm morals enjoys endangering or subjecting animals to harm, especially when it is not absolutely necessary. That is why the laws and
regulations set forth by organizations like OLAW and the USDA exist–to ensure that the minimal amount of harm is committed to the minimal number
of animals while still allowing researchers to study and better understand the perplexities of human systems. The experimental animal research
performed by scientists such as Alexander Fleming, Ernst Chain, and Howard Florey contributed to a shift in the tide of World War II in the fact that
millions of soldiers who would have lost their lives to infections of superficial wounds or pneumonia were now able to continue fighting and return
home to their loved ones. Animal research continues to be beneficial for pre–clinical trials today and to study the brain. Without animals to act as
analogues to the human brain, researchers would be severely limited in the methods available to study something such as the functionality of the brain
when considering all of its intricacies such as complex thought, evaluative judgement, and social behaviors. The alternative to animal research trials
would include clinical trials for drugs which have not been analyzed and tested thoroughly, less data for researchers to utilize to further the
progression of the overall understanding of the human body and its complex systems, and costly invasive procedures on humans in order to study
behavior which could injure, adversely affect the patient for the rest of their lives, or worse. I implore you to consider, is that truly the ideal world that

Immigration has become very controversial issue for many countries. For decades, immigration issues that has affected the US economy has been
questioned by both immigrants and citizens. There are people who highly support the idea of open immigration, keeping in mind the growth of
population and the benefits from economic effects; on the other hand, there are people who strongly argue that too much immigration can cause
unnecessary economic and political problems in society. So, what kind of impact did immigration bring to the United States economy? We should be
aware of the consequences and use a different point of view on this case. Immigrants will bring benefits and liabilities, but we should expand
immigration in the United States because economic growth, increase in cultural diversity, and overall impacts on society are much more positive than
negative.
Immigration will not only help increase the profits of the country, but also help expand the United State 's economic growth. Some people consider that
immigrants have injected fresh impetus into the US economy; however, there are others who deliberate that immigrants have instead brought social
and economic burdens. According to a L.A. Times analysis summarizing the best available research, "Immigrants contribute mightily to the economy,
by paying billions in annual taxes, by filling low–wage jobs that keep domestic industry competitive, and by spurring investment and job–creation,

Zinc: Controversial Topics
Zinc is known as a cofactor for enzymes included in metabolism and also for appropriate two hundred enzymes in human body as well as a direct
participator for the RNA. Because zinc plays an essential in human body energy metabolism and in anabolic, lacking of the consumption of zinc will
result in some serious issue, one particular problem is blunts growth (Lukaski, 2000). Some elements can restrain the intake of zinc from diet such as
phytate. A event occurred in the early 1960s in the Middle East that people ate the diets containing a high number of phytate which contribute the
disease of adolescent nutritional dwarfism in this area. The reason may be that the food these people ate containing one being phytate which damages
the absorption of zinc and other minerals (Lönnerdal, 2000). It is confirmed that nearly fifty percent of the world's population is lacking the
consumption of zinc(Prasad, 2003)....show more content...

Pros and Cons of Controversy
1.93% of higher education faculty believe critical thinking is an essential learning outcome.
A 2005 report by the Association of American Colleges and Universities demonstrated the need for efforts to promote critical thinking by highlighting
the disparity between the 93% of higher education faculty that perceive critical thinking to be an essential learning outcome and the 6% of
undergraduate seniors that actually demonstrated critical thinking proficiency.

7.Teaching controversial topics helps students develop non–violent strategies for dealing with conflict.
A 2008 case study of social studies teachers concluded that: "Teaching controversial issues allows students to question and to express their fears in the
safety of the classroom, and provides opportunities to develop their social skills such as learning how to listen to one another, to deal with difficult
topics, and to handle their anger and frustrations without resorting to violence. Importantly, it is not about teaching students to avoid conflict, because
conflict and controversy are part of human relationships, but rather where schools provide neutral grounds for rational discourse and objective study."

A 2003 evaluation of students given a controversial issue assignment found that:
98.25% "agreed, strongly agreed, or very strongly agreed" that "they were more sensitive to the concerns of people from diverse populations" after
completion of a controversial issue assignment. 9
6.4% "agreed, strongly agreed, or very strongly agreed" that "their knowledge about a population other than their own" had increased.

Evolution In Controversial Research
A controversial topic happening in biology now is the topic of evolution and its predictability. One strong argument is that arbitrary effects could
potentially cause different outcomes that can not be seen ahead of time. A concept that has been very important in this debate is convergent evolution.
This is when different species have related changes in their evolution. However, this has not been the case. Although an evolution to the resistance to
toxin has been found in different species. In one gene there was a change in two amino acids. This change stops the binding of cardiac glycosides
which prevents it from being toxic. All of these changes occurred because of natural selection.

I chose the topic of the Space Exploration: Apollo missions. This has always interested me and I found that it was a lot more than just space
exploration. This was a political race that was between the United States and Soviet Union "Russia". I was shocked to find out that this was a
controversial topic, because many people believe that we never made it in space and others think that the moon landing was a hoax.
I also read that some people thought it was a way to drain the Russian economy during the cold war. John F. Kennedy started the Apollo missions to
flaunt the U.S. Prestige to the Soviet Union. The first 7 rockets failed, but were unmanned. Apollo 7 was manned and successfully orbited the Earth.
It took until Apollo 11 to actually land

Stem Cell Research is still the most controversial topic in science today. The idea behind the experiment involves the development, use, and destruction
of human embryos. The research method mainly focuses on embryonic stem cells, which involves taking tissue from an aborted embryo to get a better
look at the cell and obtain information for the fundamental properties of the cells. Embryonic stem cells play a major role in the research because the
cell provides information for cell development to create new drugs for medical disorders. Although stem cell research seems like that this perception
could help cure precarious diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson 's, and even diabetes, which would help the United States heavily, many consider the
procedure unethical and dangerous. Stem cell research could help bring further advancement to the medical field, it can also transfer destruction.
Many argue that stem cell procedure is unethical due to the fact that we are using a human embryo as a test subject. Regarding that scientists would be
implementing a cell that once belonged to a human being, made people feel that the procedure would lead to the act of "playing God". "Embryonic stem
cell research takes away the chance of an embryo to become a human being" (Embryonic Stem Cell Research: an ethical dilemma). Embryos are in a
stage that they have the possibility to develop into a human being and using them for inquiry is taking away this probability and therefore, it is
examined,

Controversial Animal Testing
Human experimentation has been a practice for hundreds of years. Human experimentation is, "subjecting live human beings to science experiments
that are sometimes cruel, sometimes painful, sometimes deadly and always a risk" (Human Medical). Humans have been test subjects for vaccines,
medication, and procedure for doctors across the world. They have been used with or without their consent through various ways of testing and studies
and have been taken advantage of during the entire process. Obviously, by testing humans, it is easier to see what will happen to other human patients
than if scientist tested in a lab on an animal. Testing on the same species as the intended recipient is important because every animal has a different
body composition...show more content...
One of the main arguments/problems with human experimentation is regarding consent. Consent, or giving one permission, is an important part of
signing up for experimentation but it has been avoided many times throughout history. Doctors and scientists have taken advantage of uneducated
people and convinced them to participate in potentially life threatening studies. They use money and wordiness to mask the true danger of the
experiment in some cases to find test subjects for controversial tests. Similarly, minorities or groups that are discriminated against also fall into this
category of people who are subject to be chosen as test subjects. The Aversion Project occurred in South Africa where about 900 homosexual soldiers
were sent to Ward 22 and experienced shock treatment and other horrendous treatment meant to cure them of their "Homosexual condition"(10 of the
Most). Another issue it the potential loss for a human life. Not that killing an animal is right but, putting a person's life on the line is much more
important and should not be taken lightly. With this being said, instances still occur where people are taken advantage of, discriminated against, and
essentially forced into experiments instead of testing animals or with people that give true informed consent. Human experimentation leads to poor
conditions, discrimination, and death when consent fails to be

hosting a national championship game (ProQuest Staff). Changing the mascot won't change the history of the school or team. Some people feel
unwelcome because of certain mascots. Some mascots should be banned because they are stereotypical, dishonor cultures, and are offensive. The first

Animal Testing Fatima walks into the cosmetic section of Macy's and is interested in buying some acne skin care products. As she was paying for
them, she notices plenty of harmful side effects the acne products contained. Fatima is glad she is aware of these symptoms and knows that these side
effects are rare and that the product is almost completely safe to use. If it was not for animal testing that is currently being used in some laboratories,
these side effects would have been discovered on people and that would create an unsafe environment. Less people would want to buy care products
and medicine since it would be viewed as a risk instead of something helpful. Animal testing is becoming a more controversial topic, despite its many
successes over the years. Since people have various misconceptions about it, such as it being an unsafe and cruel technique, it has become a more
unpopular method. However, the benefits of animal research and testing have been less spread due to negative media attention, which created a bias
among the public. Animal testing is a practice that has proved to be beneficial and should be continued because of the close similarity between humans
and animals, the many lifesaving cures that it contributed to, and the regulation of the practice that makes it safe and humane for animals. One of the
biggest reasons why animals are used in laboratories is because they are very similar to human beings. In

poor memory" (p.136). Marijuana has also been used for therapeutic purposes in the Middle East, Central Asia, Greece and Rome. During the

Stem cell research is a controversial topic discussing life or death. Stem cells have the capability to turn into many different cell types essentially
saving lives that may need specific parts that the stem cell can create. The embryo being used dies which makes this topic very controversial because
the unborn child is being killed for research. Although stem cell research treats people from chronic diseases which therefore saves lives which is very
crucial, there are a lot of people who deny this research because of ethical dilemmas.
There are two types of cells: adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are produced when a...show more content...
In my opinion, stem cell research is not wrong at all and no one technically dies from it. In the article "What are embryonic stem cells?" by the
U.S. Department of Health and Human `Services, the authors says that embryonic stem cells "...are not derived from eggs fertilized in a woman 's
body" (1). Therefore, if the egg hasn't even been fertilized before it is aborted, technically the egg was never a baby because the sperm didn't get to it
on time. This means that the egg did not get fertilized in time in order for it to be considered a human. So, if a human–being never formed, how can
someone claim that it has been killed if it never existed? Lindsay Lyon, a graduate from the Indiana University of Bloomington and editor of the U.S.
News and World Report, wrote an article about eight diseases that embryonic stem cells have been proven to cure. In her article, "Stem Cells: 10
Diseases They May– or May Not– Cure", she discusses how embryonic stem cells helped a paralyzed individual regain some feeling and have some
control over their lower extremities. She says that the "...objective was to help people with spinal cord injuries..." (1). Embryonic stem cells helped
paralyzed people and now they can somewhat move which is greater from not moving at all.
Some students at Harvard University cured lab mice from diabetes., the

Embryonic Stem Cell Controversy
The controversy over stem cell research's use in the medical field is almost two decades old. So why the sudden intense return of fierce political
debates over an old issue? It's because President Obama recently revoked the ban on stem cell research, as he believes it holds the potential to
revolutionize the medical industry in the years to come. As USA Today quoted him saying in March, after he stopped restricting federal funding for
stem cell research, "At this moment, the full promise of stem cell research remains unknown and should not be overstated. Scientists believe these tiny
cells may have the potential to help us understand, and possibly cure, some of our most devastating diseases and conditions." The body's master cells are

... the embryo would have been thrown away at an abortion clinic anyway. Now, given the choice of completely wasting the life or using it in order to
further research, I'd pick research." (http://www.juniorpolitics.com/) The fertility clinics, however, appear to be stem cell research advocates' favorite
reference on how their work is ethical and humane in comparison. According to Michael Kinsley, Time Magazine reporter, "Embryonic stem
–cell
studies are controversial because they involve the destruction of human embryos. However, fertility clinics destroy far more human embryos than
stem–cell research ever would, yet they are not controversial." (http://www.time.com) Pro–stem cell research scientists have found that citing fertility
clinics as a similar field severely lessens the educated opposition against their work. This is because most pro–life advocates and mainstream
Christians are advocates for the use of fertility clinics to help struggling couples get pregnant. They view fertility clinics as a place to help create
life, not take it. In this, I speak from personal experience, as many of my Christian friends and relatives have been in and out of fertility clinics
throughout the years, attempting to procreate a being to love, raise, and care for. In short, the debate boils down to the ancient debate of whether or
not a fetus or human embryo is a life or not. Pro–life advocates say that human fetuses are absolutely,

Schizophrenia In Controversial Research
The Human brain is one of the most important organs in our body as well as one of the most complex organs. Our brain is responsible for
everything we do, from voluntary to involuntary responses. However, the brain can also play game with us. It can trick us and made us remember
things that did not really happened, or block or do not remember at all an event. Usually we do not remember things because our brain is trying to
protect us from something, or because of a brain disorder or disease. One of the less common mental disorder is Schizophrenia. My phycology
professor in high school used to say that "schizophrenia is a split from reality," meaning that the person suffering form this condition cannot identify the

hypnosis can cause seizures, dissociative episodes, and recreation of traumatic events. On his research paper he talks about two groups of patients, both
suffering form schizophrenia, one was treated with hypnotherapy and the other one with hypnosis. He claims that many effects of hypnosis are not
reported because they might go unobserved because they maybe happened outside the experimental stage. On his experiment he observed that the
person hypnotized suffered of cognitive confusion attached with tiredness and automatics signs. Another person in the experiment was confused and
anxious; moreover, the patient tried to remember events that at the moment were impossible to remember. As a result of it the patient was having vivid
dreams of the hypnosis. Gruzelier, did several different investigation and experiments and in conclusion the majority of people that were hypnotize
suffered from loss of memory, their mind went blank, re–living previous traumatic experiences, and nausea. 44.1% of patients experiment some kind
of unwanted reaction during or after the hypnosis process (John Gruzelier, 17.) Researcher Gruzelier talks about a particular case of first episode
schizophrenia that was treated with hypnosis. In was in the UK in 1998 a 25–year–old male became schizophrenic for the first time within a week of
stage hypnosis. The person was hypnotized for 2 hours, after being hypnotized he suffered from severe headache, foggy memory, and blank eyes. The
next day he suffered from personality change. Gruzelier claims that hypnosis was the trigger of the schizophrenia on the 25–year–old

Stem cell research is a fairly controversial topic in the United States. Stem cells are cells that have the potential to become certain types of cells
throughout a human body. There are a few types of stem cells, which are embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells.
Embryonic stem cells are the most controversial due to the manner from which they are obtained. Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent cells gathered
from the inner cell mass of a blastocyst, which is an early–stage embryo that contains about 50–150 cells. However, the extraction of these cells causes
the blastocyst to be destroyed, which is what raises many flags to people. The controversy of stem cell research began as early as 1996 when congress

There are many benefits that come from stem cell research; the government should be more open to obtaining stem cell research in other manners
because it can be used to regenerate brain cells, it promotes nerve repair, and insulin secreting cells. If the government was to be more open to
obtaining stem cell lines in other ways than just donations from fertility clinics, there would be much more stem cells available to be cultured.
Since there have been so many limitations set on stem cell research, it has been difficult for scientist to find the many benefits of stem cell therapy.
As far as we know, stem cells could be used for the possible cure of incurable diseases such as, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, and paralyzed
human beings. Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease are caused primarily due to the loss of brain cells, which our body does not regenerate. With other
common diseases such as diabetes, stem cell therapy can play a role if they promote insulin secreting cells, which are the cells that humans with
diabetes are lacking. It is very likely that these incurable diseases can be cured by stem cell therapy if it became easier to obtain such stem cells.
Researchers should be able to clone embryonic stem cells for research purposes if donated embryos are in short supply. One of the rules that the NIH

Controversial Topics Of Abortion Debate
While watching the Law and Order episode Life Choice, we saw some topics are highly controversial about abortion, with marry multiple viewpoints.
Some of the reasons a topic of debate can become controversial. Because everyone has different opinions. In the episode, they have pro–abortion who
thinks abortion is not a guilty or crime, and anti–abortion who against abortion. Their opinions are based on their living environment. Anti–abortionists
think abortion is bad crime. Abortion is killing a life and it is extremely against to religion, so religious people disapprove to abortion. However,
people who are not very religious or have an idea about pro–abortion are able to agree to abortion, if someone really need to do abortion. In the episode,

Dr. Praphul Joshi 10/23/2013 Controversial Public Health Issue There are several controversial issues confronting us today; from Universal
Healthcare (Obama Care) to Stem Cell research, to vaccinations, to genetically engineered (GE)/genetically modified (GM) foods. However, I shall
look at genetically modified foods as the controversial issue for this article. I shall look at an article from the mass media about this controversial
public health issue and place emphasis on the message the document wants to convey and address any biases that may be within. In addition, I shall
provide additional data or facts from another article to see if it supports or refutes the controversial message. It is my intention that this article will
provide some clarity on genetically modified foods confronting us in the United States and the world over. Since the successful cloning of Dolly, the

It has been the center of controversies and has come under fire from scientific communities, political leaders, religious leaders, and public interest
groups. Ethical and moral issues have been the leading causes of this controversial topic from the scientific community, political leaders, and religious
leaders. However, fear, misinformation, or lack of knowledge about gene manipulation orgenetic engineering seems to be the leading concerns of public

Controversial Animal Research

  • 1. Controversial Animal Research What does an ideal world look like? Some may respond with fantastical conceptions of a society in which famine is no longer an issue, clean drinking water is readily available for every individual, war is expunged by love and people are filled with tolerance and understanding for one another, or maybe one foresees an idealistic future in which disease, disorders, and disabilities alike are understood and are treated for via the most effective means possible. While a few of these utopian ideals are a bit far–fetched for some to consider feasible, that should not halter our determination to realize these goals. It is the responsibility of many scientists and doctors globally to contribute to the progress of achieving the last objective specifically. ...show more content... No one with firm morals enjoys endangering or subjecting animals to harm, especially when it is not absolutely necessary. That is why the laws and regulations set forth by organizations like OLAW and the USDA exist–to ensure that the minimal amount of harm is committed to the minimal number of animals while still allowing researchers to study and better understand the perplexities of human systems. The experimental animal research performed by scientists such as Alexander Fleming, Ernst Chain, and Howard Florey contributed to a shift in the tide of World War II in the fact that millions of soldiers who would have lost their lives to infections of superficial wounds or pneumonia were now able to continue fighting and return home to their loved ones. Animal research continues to be beneficial for pre–clinical trials today and to study the brain. Without animals to act as analogues to the human brain, researchers would be severely limited in the methods available to study something such as the functionality of the brain when considering all of its intricacies such as complex thought, evaluative judgement, and social behaviors. The alternative to animal research trials would include clinical trials for drugs which have not been analyzed and tested thoroughly, less data for researchers to utilize to further the progression of the overall understanding of the human body and its complex systems, and costly invasive procedures on humans in order to study behavior which could injure, adversely affect the patient for the rest of their lives, or worse. I implore you to consider, is that truly the ideal world that you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Open The Gate Immigration has become very controversial issue for many countries. For decades, immigration issues that has affected the US economy has been questioned by both immigrants and citizens. There are people who highly support the idea of open immigration, keeping in mind the growth of population and the benefits from economic effects; on the other hand, there are people who strongly argue that too much immigration can cause unnecessary economic and political problems in society. So, what kind of impact did immigration bring to the United States economy? We should be aware of the consequences and use a different point of view on this case. Immigrants will bring benefits and liabilities, but we should expand immigration in the United States because economic growth, increase in cultural diversity, and overall impacts on society are much more positive than negative. Immigration will not only help increase the profits of the country, but also help expand the United State 's economic growth. Some people consider that immigrants have injected fresh impetus into the US economy; however, there are others who deliberate that immigrants have instead brought social and economic burdens. According to a L.A. Times analysis summarizing the best available research, "Immigrants contribute mightily to the economy, by paying billions in annual taxes, by filling low–wage jobs that keep domestic industry competitive, and by spurring investment and job–creation, revitalizing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Zinc: Controversial Topics Zinc is known as a cofactor for enzymes included in metabolism and also for appropriate two hundred enzymes in human body as well as a direct participator for the RNA. Because zinc plays an essential in human body energy metabolism and in anabolic, lacking of the consumption of zinc will result in some serious issue, one particular problem is blunts growth (Lukaski, 2000). Some elements can restrain the intake of zinc from diet such as phytate. A event occurred in the early 1960s in the Middle East that people ate the diets containing a high number of phytate which contribute the disease of adolescent nutritional dwarfism in this area. The reason may be that the food these people ate containing one being phytate which damages the absorption of zinc and other minerals (LГ¶nnerdal, 2000). It is confirmed that nearly fifty percent of the world's population is lacking the consumption of zinc(Prasad, 2003)....show more content... A 2008 case study of social studies teachers concluded that: "Teaching controversial issues allows students to question and to express their fears in the safety of the classroom, and provides opportunities to develop their social skills such as learning how to listen to one another, to deal with difficult topics, and to handle their anger and frustrations without resorting to violence. Importantly, it is not about teaching students to avoid conflict, because conflict and controversy are part of human relationships, but rather where schools provide neutral grounds for rational discourse and objective study." • 6. Evolution In Controversial Research A controversial topic happening in biology now is the topic of evolution and its predictability. One strong argument is that arbitrary effects could potentially cause different outcomes that can not be seen ahead of time. A concept that has been very important in this debate is convergent evolution. This is when different species have related changes in their evolution. However, this has not been the case. Although an evolution to the resistance to toxin has been found in different species. In one gene there was a change in two amino acids. This change stops the binding of cardiac glycosides which prevents it from being toxic. All of these changes occurred because of natural selection. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. I chose the topic of the Space Exploration: Apollo missions. This has always interested me and I found that it was a lot more than just space exploration. This was a political race that was between the United States and Soviet Union "Russia". I was shocked to find out that this was a controversial topic, because many people believe that we never made it in space and others think that the moon landing was a hoax. I also read that some people thought it was a way to drain the Russian economy during the cold war. John F. Kennedy started the Apollo missions to flaunt the U.S. Prestige to the Soviet Union. The first 7 rockets failed, but were unmanned. Apollo 7 was manned and successfully orbited the Earth. It took until Apollo 11 to actually land Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Stem Cell Research is still the most controversial topic in science today. The idea behind the experiment involves the development, use, and destruction of human embryos. The research method mainly focuses on embryonic stem cells, which involves taking tissue from an aborted embryo to get a better look at the cell and obtain information for the fundamental properties of the cells. Embryonic stem cells play a major role in the research because the cell provides information for cell development to create new drugs for medical disorders. Although stem cell research seems like that this perception could help cure precarious diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson 's, and even diabetes, which would help the United States heavily, many consider the procedure unethical and dangerous. Stem cell research could help bring further advancement to the medical field, it can also transfer destruction. Many argue that stem cell procedure is unethical due to the fact that we are using a human embryo as a test subject. Regarding that scientists would be implementing a cell that once belonged to a human being, made people feel that the procedure would lead to the act of "playing God". "Embryonic stem cell research takes away the chance of an embryo to become a human being" (Embryonic Stem Cell Research: an ethical dilemma). Embryos are in a stage that they have the possibility to develop into a human being and using them for inquiry is taking away this probability and therefore, it is examined, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Controversial Animal Testing Human experimentation has been a practice for hundreds of years. Human experimentation is, "subjecting live human beings to science experiments that are sometimes cruel, sometimes painful, sometimes deadly and always a risk" (Human Medical). Humans have been test subjects for vaccines, medication, and procedure for doctors across the world. They have been used with or without their consent through various ways of testing and studies and have been taken advantage of during the entire process. Obviously, by testing humans, it is easier to see what will happen to other human patients than if scientist tested in a lab on an animal. Testing on the same species as the intended recipient is important because every animal has a different body composition...show more content... One of the main arguments/problems with human experimentation is regarding consent. Consent, or giving one permission, is an important part of signing up for experimentation but it has been avoided many times throughout history. Doctors and scientists have taken advantage of uneducated people and convinced them to participate in potentially life threatening studies. They use money and wordiness to mask the true danger of the experiment in some cases to find test subjects for controversial tests. Similarly, minorities or groups that are discriminated against also fall into this category of people who are subject to be chosen as test subjects. The Aversion Project occurred in South Africa where about 900 homosexual soldiers were sent to Ward 22 and experienced shock treatment and other horrendous treatment meant to cure them of their "Homosexual condition"(10 of the Most). Another issue it the potential loss for a human life. Not that killing an animal is right but, putting a person's life on the line is much more important and should not be taken lightly. With this being said, instances still occur where people are taken advantage of, discriminated against, and essentially forced into experiments instead of testing animals or with people that give true informed consent. Human experimentation leads to poor conditions, discrimination, and death when consent fails to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Controversial Mascots Research Paper Controversial Mascots "The Center for Indigenous Peoples Studies at California State University in San Bernardino surveyed 400 individuals, 98 of them Native Americans, and found that 67 percent of Native Americans agreed the "Redskins team name is a racial or racist word and symbol."" (Steele). Some mascots are offensive and racist to certain cultures and races. In, 2005, the NCAA banned schools with Native American mascots from hosting a national championship game (ProQuest Staff). Changing the mascot won't change the history of the school or team. Some people feel unwelcome because of certain mascots. Some mascots should be banned because they are stereotypical, dishonor cultures, and are offensive. • 11. Animal Testing : A Controversial Topic Abdul Faytrouni Prof. Greer PHIL 76 23 July 2015 Animal Testing Fatima walks into the cosmetic section of Macy's and is interested in buying some acne skin care products. As she was paying for them, she notices plenty of harmful side effects the acne products contained. Fatima is glad she is aware of these symptoms and knows that these side effects are rare and that the product is almost completely safe to use. If it was not for animal testing that is currently being used in some laboratories, these side effects would have been discovered on people and that would create an unsafe environment. Less people would want to buy care products and medicine since it would be viewed as a risk instead of something helpful. Animal testing is becoming a more controversial topic, despite its many successes over the years. Since people have various misconceptions about it, such as it being an unsafe and cruel technique, it has become a more unpopular method. However, the benefits of animal research and testing have been less spread due to negative media attention, which created a bias among the public. Animal testing is a practice that has proved to be beneficial and should be continued because of the close similarity between humans and animals, the many lifesaving cures that it contributed to, and the regulation of the practice that makes it safe and humane for animals. One of the biggest reasons why animals are used in laboratories is because they are very similar to human beings. In Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Marijuana has been used by many cultures for thousands of years, from at least 2737 B.C. to the present day (Marshall, 2005). The first use of the marijuana plant dates back approximately 10,000 years and is documented as having been utilized for the hemp, which is product of the marijuana plant with many practical uses, not human consumption (Marshall, 2005). According to Marshall (2005), "The first record of human consumption of marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes dates back to 2737 B.C., when the Chinese emperor Shen Neng recorded the use of cannabis to treat gout, malaria, beriberi, rheumatism and poor memory" (p.136). Marijuana has also been used for therapeutic purposes in the Middle East, Central Asia, Greece and Rome. • 13. Isabel Martinez Kegley Health Science– 4th period 22 September 2015Stem Cell Research Stem cell research is a controversial topic discussing life or death. Stem cells have the capability to turn into many different cell types essentially saving lives that may need specific parts that the stem cell can create. The embryo being used dies which makes this topic very controversial because the unborn child is being killed for research. Although stem cell research treats people from chronic diseases which therefore saves lives which is very crucial, there are a lot of people who deny this research because of ethical dilemmas. There are two types of cells: adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are produced when a...show more content... In my opinion, stem cell research is not wrong at all and no one technically dies from it. In the article "What are embryonic stem cells?" by the U.S. Department of Health and Human `Services, the authors says that embryonic stem cells "...are not derived from eggs fertilized in a woman 's body" (1). Therefore, if the egg hasn't even been fertilized before it is aborted, technically the egg was never a baby because the sperm didn't get to it on time. This means that the egg did not get fertilized in time in order for it to be considered a human. So, if a human–being never formed, how can someone claim that it has been killed if it never existed? Lindsay Lyon, a graduate from the Indiana University of Bloomington and editor of the U.S. News and World Report, wrote an article about eight diseases that embryonic stem cells have been proven to cure. In her article, "Stem Cells: 10 Diseases They May– or May Not– Cure", she discusses how embryonic stem cells helped a paralyzed individual regain some feeling and have some control over their lower extremities. She says that the "...objective was to help people with spinal cord injuries..." (1). Embryonic stem cells helped paralyzed people and now they can somewhat move which is greater from not moving at all. • 14. Embryonic Stem Cell Controversy The controversy over stem cell research's use in the medical field is almost two decades old. So why the sudden intense return of fierce political debates over an old issue? It's because President Obama recently revoked the ban on stem cell research, as he believes it holds the potential to revolutionize the medical industry in the years to come. As USA Today quoted him saying in March, after he stopped restricting federal funding for stem cell research, "At this moment, the full promise of stem cell research remains unknown and should not be overstated. Scientists believe these tiny cells may have the potential to help us understand, and possibly cure, some of our most devastating diseases and conditions." The body's master cells are ...show more content... ... the embryo would have been thrown away at an abortion clinic anyway. Now, given the choice of completely wasting the life or using it in order to further research, I'd pick research." (http://www.juniorpolitics.com/) The fertility clinics, however, appear to be stem cell research advocates' favorite reference on how their work is ethical and humane in comparison. According to Michael Kinsley, Time Magazine reporter, "Embryonic stem –cell studies are controversial because they involve the destruction of human embryos. However, fertility clinics destroy far more human embryos than stem–cell research ever would, yet they are not controversial." (http://www.time.com) Pro–stem cell research scientists have found that citing fertility clinics as a similar field severely lessens the educated opposition against their work. This is because most pro–life advocates and mainstream Christians are advocates for the use of fertility clinics to help struggling couples get pregnant. They view fertility clinics as a place to help create life, not take it. In this, I speak from personal experience, as many of my Christian friends and relatives have been in and out of fertility clinics throughout the years, attempting to procreate a being to love, raise, and care for. In short, the debate boils down to the ancient debate of whether or not a fetus or human embryo is a life or not. Pro–life advocates say that human fetuses are absolutely, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Schizophrenia In Controversial Research The Human brain is one of the most important organs in our body as well as one of the most complex organs. Our brain is responsible for everything we do, from voluntary to involuntary responses. However, the brain can also play game with us. It can trick us and made us remember things that did not really happened, or block or do not remember at all an event. Usually we do not remember things because our brain is trying to protect us from something, or because of a brain disorder or disease. One of the less common mental disorder is Schizophrenia. Gruzelier explains that even entertainment hypnosis can cause seizures, dissociative episodes, and recreation of traumatic events. On his research paper he talks about two groups of patients, both suffering form schizophrenia, one was treated with hypnotherapy and the other one with hypnosis. He claims that many effects of hypnosis are not reported because they might go unobserved because they maybe happened outside the experimental stage. On his experiment he observed that the person hypnotized suffered of cognitive confusion attached with tiredness and automatics signs. Another person in the experiment was confused and anxious; moreover, the patient tried to remember events that at the moment were impossible to remember. As a result of it the patient was having vivid dreams of the hypnosis. Gruzelier, did several different investigation and experiments and in conclusion the majority of people that were hypnotize suffered from loss of memory, their mind went blank, re–living previous traumatic experiences, and nausea. 44.1% of patients experiment some kind of unwanted reaction during or after the hypnosis process (John Gruzelier, 17.) Researcher Gruzelier talks about a particular case of first episode schizophrenia that was treated with hypnosis. • 16. Stem cell research is a fairly controversial topic in the United States. Stem cells are cells that have the potential to become certain types of cells throughout a human body. There are a few types of stem cells, which are embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are the most controversial due to the manner from which they are obtained. Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent cells gathered from the inner cell mass of a blastocyst, which is an early–stage embryo that contains about 50–150 cells. However, the extraction of these cells causes the blastocyst to be destroyed, which is what raises many flags to people. The controversy of stem cell research began as early as 1996 when congress ...show more content... There are many benefits that come from stem cell research; the government should be more open to obtaining stem cell research in other manners because it can be used to regenerate brain cells, it promotes nerve repair, and insulin secreting cells. If the government was to be more open to obtaining stem cell lines in other ways than just donations from fertility clinics, there would be much more stem cells available to be cultured. Since there have been so many limitations set on stem cell research, it has been difficult for scientist to find the many benefits of stem cell therapy. As far as we know, stem cells could be used for the possible cure of incurable diseases such as, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, diabetes, and paralyzed human beings. Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease are caused primarily due to the loss of brain cells, which our body does not regenerate. With other common diseases such as diabetes, stem cell therapy can play a role if they promote insulin secreting cells, which are the cells that humans with diabetes are lacking. It is very likely that these incurable diseases can be cured by stem cell therapy if it became easier to obtain such stem cells. Researchers should be able to clone embryonic stem cells for research purposes if donated embryos are in short supply. One of the rules that the NIH Get more content on HelpWriting.net
