This painting is fairly realistic, so as far as the type of art, the objective was met. However, emotionalism is also an objective, because the artist
imitates reality, but also draws inward for emotion. Good balance is shown in the painting, I would say it is symmetrical. Rhythm is also well shown,
as you gaze at the painting, your eyes moving around as each part flows into another. Emphasis is shown on the night sky and the great black figure.
Proportion is difficult to describe, as it is difficult to discern just how big the black figure really is. Variety in the mystical castle and the quaint town
is well shown. Harmony is shown in the way that parts of the painting come together. Space, value, texture, and shape are the dominant elements of

The Starry Night is one of the most famous paintings in the history of western culture. It was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889 and is recognized

it is painted from Van Gogh's memory, unlike his other works which are painted outdoor. This painting is the view from the east

The first thing I notice in The Starry Night is the sky in the background because it stands out the most. There are many shining stars, the big bright
crescent moon and wind swirls painted throughout the blue sky using contrasting colours like orange, yellow and white. Through the swirling wind,
thick curve lines are flowing across the sky to form this spiral–like formation. Eleven yellow stars which look like huge fireballs lighten the whole art
piece by contrasting with the cool blue, dark night sky that contains a variety of shades of blue and grey. There is also the crescent moon at the top
right–hand corner that is bigger and emits an even brighter light compared to the rest of the stars. Next, I notice the giant cypress tree on the left side
because of how its proportion is a lot bigger than everything else in the rest of the painting. It blocks out part of the sky and the village located at the
bottom. The village houses are tiny and painted in the shade. It is compact and is close to the hills and its surrounding objects which makes the houses
blend in and become unnoticeable.
Many elements and principles are portrayed in this art piece. To begin with, the first thing I see and grabs my attention is the swirling wind. Rhythm
and Movement can be seen and it creates a flow to the rest of the painting in which leads your eyes to follow along the path of the swirl and brings

This painting is beautiful. The orange flowers in the corner and blues all around give the painting a very nice warm and cool contrast. The very
soft lines in the stems of the flower give the painting a sense of movement. When I look at the painting I really feel like I am sitting in my
grandma's garden on a nice spring day with the wind blowing so soft. The different color greens give the painting a sense of space and depth

Van Gough uses the elemental pieces of art to form the principle of his design. Swirls in the sky give the feeling of movement as the wind is
blowing while looking over the town on a cold night. The swirls in the sky also draw the viewer to move their eyes across the painting and look
down at the town and then back to the large cypress tree. This is Van Gough's use of asymmetrical balance and use of variety to let the viewer take

I first saw The Starry Night when I was in sixth grade and have adored it ever since. Of course, I did not understand the components of art I hope to

According to Wikipedia, despite the painting giving the impression of religion or romance, Van Gogh reportedly never intended it to be such

My group selected the painting The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. Van Gogh painted The Starry Night in 1889 while he was a patient in a
sanitorium in St.– Remy, France. Van Gogh was "an epileptic who suffered from erratic bouts of depression, came to this former
abbey–turned–sanatorium in a futile attempt to ward off the disquieting shadows that haunted him in both his sleeping and waking hours and which
eventually caused him to take his own life" (Billy 44–45). Van Gogh paintedThe Starry Night by using his memory and the view outside of his

The first Element of Art that I chose to discuss is line. "Line is a mark with greater length than width. Lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal:
straight or curved: thick or thin" (Getty 1). Van Gogh used lines to move the viewers eyes to different areas of the painting. Also, vertical lines move
the viewer's eyes up to the sky. He used diagonal and curving lines in the sky to move the viewer's eyes toward the largest star in the painting, the
moon. He also uses lines to form the stars and planets in the sky. He uses lines as the focal point in this painting. He does not use any clean shapes, but
instead uses prominent lines to portray his story.
The second Element of Art that I chose to discuss is texture. "Texture is the surface quality that can be seen and felt. Textures can be rough or smooth,
soft or hard" (Getty 1). Vincent can Gogh used heavy brush strokes to portray a rough texture. He also used different textures and lines to make the
cypress tree and the sky almost three–dimensional. He gave the hills lines to make it appear as if it had a rough texture. He used a swirling motion is
the sky to make it appear as if the wind was blowing. Using these texture technique, van Gogh allowed his painting to come alive before the viewer's
eyes. The first Principle of Design that I chose to discuss is pattern. "Pattern is the repeating of an object or symbol all over the work of art" (Getty 1).
The hills have the same pattern that repeat to look like taller mountains. He uses

of Anne Sexton 's spiritual poetry, Starry Night, ensues the melancholy of humanity. The poem depicts Sexton 's interpretation of the immense
psychological suffering of a "religious" human being. By addressing, Van Gogh 's work caught with a deep understanding of an emptiness of the soul
and also the familiar warfare of his mental distresses. Sexton showcases the shared tiredness of life, by describing religion as an example of extreme

The clocks are melting and there is a lot of mystery in the darkness of the painting. The only objects in the painting that don't seem to look strange
is the small tree on which one of the clocks is melting and the mountain in the background. The persistence of memory is supposed to represent
what kind of things are seen when in a dream state in Dali's own memory. I think that the clocks are melting because when you have a dream it feels
like it's a few minutes long however when you awaken from a dream you find that night is gone and the morning is already here, so time does not

"The Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh, and "Number 1 1949" by Jackson Pollock; there are a few similarities about the meaning of the works of
art. Their background and history are different. These paintings were created in two totally different eras and have different formal and technical
