Stonehill welcomed over 60 community partners at its annual Celebration of Service Breakfast on
Tuesday, May 1 at the Martin Institute.
This year's event not only celebrated the College's relationship with local nonprofit organizations but
also marked the 20th anniversary of Stonehill's Into The Streets (ITS) Program.
Through programs like ITS, Stonehill students partake in meaningful service experiences that
challenge and teach them to be agents of social change committed to the creation of a more just and
compassionate world.
Last year over 800 students participated in service through the ITS Program, contributing over 2,000
hours to the community. Total hours of service completed, including nonprofit internships,
Community Based Learning hours and other types of service last year, resulted in over 95,000 hours
across campus and internationally.
"I am extremely proud of the work our students do with our partner agencies and most specifically the
nature in which they approach others. They know they have much to learn through building
relationships and walking side by side with those who are on the margins of society," said Campus
Minister for Community Service & Partnership MaryAnne Cappelleri.
One of the many community partnerships celebrated was Stonehill's work with the Cape Verdean
Association of Brockton, led by student coordinator Greg Szczesuil '14.
"We really worked to increase our Cross Cultural Program offerings this year and that resulted in the
development of two new programs serving various populations in Brockton. A dual language tutoring
program with the George School in Brockton and a tutoring program at the Cape Verdean Association
created in concert with the Office of Community Based Learning," noted Cappelleri.
Other contributions by students which were celebrated at the breakfast was the awarding of The Girl

Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' Keystone Award to Brittany Daniels '12 and Meghan Harley '12 on
behalf of the College. As ITS Co-Coordinators, Daniels and Harley have worked extensively with the
Girl Scouts FaB Program, which serves low-income girls between the ages of 5-18 residing in
Brockton, for the past three years.
During the event, a video featuring images from Stonehill's 2011-2012 service initiatives was shown.
