Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program Annual Report 2015
- 1. FGP Mission: Partneringwith schools, early childhood intervention programs, and faith based communities to provide volunteer services that address community needs; ensuring that meaningful relationships with children are being made by providing love, encouragement, learning and companionship.
- 2. As I lookover the past year, I take exceeding pride in the fact that the Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program has continued to make its mark throughout our community by providing academic assistance, mentoring, love and tutorial assistances to at risk children. Recent data shows that during the course of the year, approximately 555 children received support through FGP volunteers which improved their academic, social and behavioral skills. We do hope that this report will be of great interest and will encourage you to partner with us as we continue our goal “To leave a positive footprint for future children and seniors.” Jason S. - 3. • FGP Programprovided academic assistance to 555 at risk children. • FGP Program continues partnerships with Hampton City Schools, Newport News City Schools, James City Public Schools, OHA Head Start, York County Head Start, and Williamsburg Community Action Agency Head Start. • Collaborated with YH Thomas Community Center and Old Northampton Community Association and secured a community block grant from the City of Hampton to support the 11th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service. • Distributed school supplies to over 170 low income children enrolled in Head Start Centers in Hampton and Newport News. • The Honorable Senator Mamie E. Locke served as the program’s keynote speaker during the 43rd annual recognition celebration. *
- 4. • Secured $226,325from the Corporation for National and Community Service to support Volunteer Service Years. • Secured $20,000 from the Newport News Community Support Agency Grant Program. • Secured approximately $927 from the City of Hampton Community Development Office in partnership with Old Northampton Community Association. • Received level funding from the City of Hampton. • Continue to receive in-kind donations from local community businesses and partners. *

- 8. • FGP volunteerGrandma Mildred Gary, age 97 was recognized for “ People Taking Action Award” by TV WTKR, Channel 3. • FGP volunteer Daniel Locke was nominated and received the “Robert E. Wone Award” for Exemplary Service becoming the first Senior Corps volunteer to receive such a distinguish award. • Grandma Brown has been a great help to my classroom. She is always helpful to the teacher and students and is an essential part to our daily routines. • Ms. Morgan does a great job working between first grade classes. She’s fair and her dedication to students is outstanding. She’s an asset to Bassett’s first grade team. • Ms. Doles is a joy to work with. She comes in each morning with a pleasant attitude ready to work with the class. *
