Communities in Schools (CIS) is a national organization that helps students stay in school and graduate through connecting them with community resources. CIS provides five basics: a caring adult relationship, a safe place to learn, healthy development, marketable skills, and opportunities to give back. CIS of Cape Fear serves students in New Hanover and Pender Counties by obtaining grants to fund programs like graduation coaches, after school activities, snacks, and field trips. These programs aim to help students succeed in school through tutoring, fitness, and special events with the help of community partners.
