1. Intro to Health Lesson
BRIAN ODDO
EDP279 SLIDESHARE PRESENTATION 4.1
2. Objectives
What are we teaching?
How to eat healthy when going out to eat
Making healthier choices with alternative foods
How are we going to make this interactive for students?
Using SMART Exchange’s Jeopardy template
3. Appetizers
Food to avoid!
Fried food- Too much fat that is hard to work off
Creamy dips- Dips used fried foods in their ingredients
Bread- Your body does not need that many carbs
Good Alternatives!
Green Salad- Use light dressing and consume those nutrients!
Antipesto- Great source of protein that is still light
Lettuce Wraps- Low carbs compared to bread with extra protein benefits
5. Beverages
Drinks to avoid!
Soda- Empty calories and a lot of bad sugar
Sweet Cocktails- Sugar/alcohol is unhealthy for your liver
Sweetened Tea- Unneeded calories that will breakdown muscle
Good Alternatives!
Water- Vital for all body functions without the calories
Unsweetened Tea- Natural tea without the sugar
Red Wine- Studies have shown it is good for heart health in moderation
7. Entrees
Food to avoid!
Pasta- Your body will have a hard time using the carbs for just energy
Pizza- Often times contains a lot of saturated fat
Burgers- Fatty and bad for heart health, try leaner meats like chicken
Good Alternatives!
Lean Meat- Chicken, turkey, and some steak
Salad with protein- All the vitamins, nutrients, and protein without the carbs
Soup- Although high in sodium, soup has added benefits for organ function
and health
9. SMARTBoard Lesson
I will be using the Jeopardy template to keep the lesson fun and
interactive. The board is setup like a normal Jeopardy board where there
will be multiple categories in a row and the different money values in the
columns of each item in the row. The larger the money amount, the more
difficult the question. I would divide the classroom into two team and call
on people to come up to the board one by one to answer questions and
see if they are retaining the lesson I had learned. I would make the
categories as Appetizers, Beverages, Entrees, Bonus, like how my lesson is
setup. The competitive atmosphere will keep the students engaged in the
lesson.
