• You may become more and more like the
friend you keep company, for association
has such an influence.
• What are some examples???

3. What this means…
• If you are friends with bad people who do
bad things, then you will do bad things and
become a bad person.
• If you are friends with good people who do
good things, then you will do good things
and be a good person.

4. • “You can’t choose your family, but you can
choose your friends”
• “Friends are family you choose”
• Be careful of what friends you choose!!!

5. ATTANA CODAYAATTANAM
• Be your own instructor
• Teach the self by yourself.
• Keep on the Buddhist path to
enlightenment by helping yourself.
• Don’t rely on others for your spiritual
development.

You yourself must watch yourself,
you yourself must examine yourself,
and so self-guarded and mindful,
O monk, you will live in happiness.

7. NISAMMA KARANAM SEYO
• It’s advisable to think before doing
anything.
• IT’S GOOD TO think before doing
anything.

8. DURAVASA GHARA DUKKHA
• An ill-managed house is also a cause of
suffering.

difficult to stay in. = duravasa.
• ghara: ghara- house. = ghara.
• dukkha: dukkha- painful, unpleasant,
causing suffering. = dukkha.

For the second time, I take refuge in the Buddha

I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking life.
อะทินนาทานา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ
Adinnādānā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking what is not given.
กาเมสุมจฉาจารา เวระมะณี สิกขาปะทัง สะมาทิยามิ

Surā-meraya-majja-pamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi.
I undertake the training rule to abstain from drinks and drugs that cause
heedlessness.
