1. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the top two myths about careers in the construction industry
are that all the jobs are dirty, and only those with brute strength can survive. The reality is that $1.3 trillion
worth of structures are created each year, and all of them need college graduates who can manage projects,
develop safety procedures and handle behind-the-scenes business aspects of construction. In addition,
people are often surprised to learn that safety professionals now have a seat in the C-suite, making strategic
decisions that have a positive impact on the bottom line.
At Capitol Technology University, we offer undergraduate and advanced degrees to help you succeed in
these growing fields. Manufacturing and construction is predicted to have 9.7 million project management
openings from 2017 to 2027, and employment of occupational health and safety technicians is projected to
grow 10 percent from 2016 to 2026.

DR. BRAD SIMS has always been involved with technology, his fascination beginning when he taught
himself programming on a Commodore 64 that he received for his birthday. From there, he went on to
obtain a BS in Building Construction Management from Purdue University and worked coast to coast
in the United States (and briefly Europe) in the project management area of industrial construction,
later becoming involved with the companies’ computer systems due to his passion for technology. Dr.
Sims continued his education to earn an MS in Building Construction from the University of Florida
and a PhD in Curriculum & Instruction from Purdue University, which led him to his first position as an
Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. Now the President of Capitol Technology University, he
is combining his background in construction and technology with Capitol Tech’s strong cybersecurity
curriculum to build the first degree programs in critical infrastructure designed to help protect the nation.
LEARN FROM A CAPITOL TECH EXPERT
This is an area of special interest for Dr. Sims as he sees a major need to protect our critical infrastructure from cyber-attacks while also
understanding how these facilities operate so that we can better defend against such attacks.
