1. Project Manager (contract) – Mainframe Re-Hosting, Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR)

Mainframe Re-Hosting was a very complexproject, responsible for migrating the entire mainframe to a vBlock server
environment,running Dell UniKix. Mainframe technologies included CICS,IMS, COBOL, Assembler,PL1,Fortran,
SAS, JCL, REXX, CLIST, ISPF Panels,RACF, IMS/DB, DB2, VSAM, GDG, MQ Series,Endevor, Panvalet and
Control-M. Server technologies included vBlock,Linux, Dell UniKix, MQ Series,DB2 LUW, Java, SAS and Control-
M.
Accomplishments
• I was the overall delivery projectmanager,responsible for managing all the technical aspects ofthe project.
• At its peak, there were 200 resources working on the project,with teams in Canada,USA, India and Italy.
• Project completed successfullyin 22 months,within the 2-year expectation stated by Mainframe re-hosting
experts.
• 76 business critical applications,2,100 batch jobs,5,200 VSAM/GDG/Sequential files,700 DB2 tables,
1,750 IMS/DB databases were converted to run in a Dell UniKix environmenton vBlock.
• The PROD cut-over in December was completed in 10 hours and as itwas performed on Christmas
Eve/Day, there was no outage to the business.
• The cut-over was very successful and there were so few issues postcut-over that we were able to reduce
the warranty period by one month.
• Total budgetwas $32M.
