* MECCA MASJID is the oldest mosques in
hyderabad,telangana in india and it is one of the largest
masjids in india
*MECCA Masjid is a listed heritage building in the old city of
hyderabad, close to the historic landmarks of Chowmahalla,
Laad Bazaar, and charminar.
*Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi
dynasty, commissioned bricks to be made from the soil
brought from Mecca, the holiest site of Islam, and used them
in the construction of the central arch of the mosque, thus
giving the mosque its name.

6. 1.Sahn
Courtyard
● The most fundamental necessity of
congregational mosque architecture is
that it be able to hold the entire male
population of a city or are.
● In many mosques this is adjoined to
an open courtyard, called a sahn.
● Within the courtyard one often finds a
fountain, its waters both a welcome
respite in hot lands, and important for
the ablutions (ritual cleansing) done
before prayer.
8. 2.Mihrab
Niche
● Niche:a shallow recess, especially one
in a wall to display a statue or other
ornament
● Mihrab, is a semicircular niche in the
wall of a mosque that indicates the
qibla, that is, the direction of the Kaaba
in Mecca and hence the direction that
Muslims should face when praying.
● The wall in which a mihrab appears is
thus the "qibla wall”
● facade of Mecca masjid have been
carved from a single piece of granite,
which took five years to quarry.

Ornamental vaulting
● Muqarna is a form of ornamented
vaulting in Islamic architecture,
integral to the vernacular of Islamic
buildings.
● The muqarnas structure originated
from the squinch,called "honeycomb
vaulting", "stalactite vaulting".
● The purpose of muqarnas is to create
a smooth, decorative zone of
transition in an otherwise bare,
structural space andto distinguish
between the main parts of a building,
and serve as a transition from the
walls of a room into a domed ceiling.
● We find these in the prayer hall.

interiors
Design
● In the courtyard there is a water pot
carved out of a monolithic stone of
granite.
● Above tombs is an octagonal inverted
platter from which the rest of the
minarets soar until arrested by a dome
and a spire.
● The stones below the platter are
arranged in a such a manner that they
look as the shadow of the platter.
