3. Organic farming is the production of crops and
livestock's without the use of synthetic
chemicals . This involves using techniques to
achieve good crop yields without harming the
natural environment or the people who live and
work in it.
What is Organic Farming?
4. To maintain the long term fertility of the soil
To reduce the input cost.
To effectively utilize the natural resources .
To avoid all forms of pollution caused by
agricultural techniques.
To provide a quality foodstuff .
Aims of organic farming?
5. Organic FarmingMethods
It is acombine scientific knowledge ofecology and
modern technology with traditional
farming practices basedon naturallyoccurring
biological processes.
• Crop Diversity
• PestControl
• LiveStock
• Farm Size
• Plant Nutrition
– Soil Fertility
6. It involves the use of biological materials, avoiding
synthetic substances and maintaining ecological
balance thereby minimizing pollution and wastage .
It includes processes like crop rotation, green
manure, organic waste management, biological pest
control , etc .
What does it include?
7. Environmental benefits of OrganicFarming:
• SOIL -building practices suchascrop rotations, inter- cropping,
symbiotic associations, cover crops, organic fertilizers and minimum
tillage are central to organic practices.
• WATER-In manyagriculture areas,pollution of groundwater
courseswith synthetic fertilizersand pesticides is amajor
problem.
• AIR&CLIMATE- Organicagriculture reducesnon-renewable energy useby
decreasingagrochemical needs. And contributes to mitigating the
greenhouseeffect andglobal warming through its ability to sequester
carbon in the soil.
8. How 'modern farming' affects our world
• Land exhaustion – Loss of soil fertility
• Nitrate run-off – watercontamination
• Soil erosion
• Reduced soil porosity due to soil compaction
• Excessive use of pesticides, weedi cides, fungicides
• Cruelty to animals due to over-crowding
• Loss of cultivated biodiversity
• Threat to indigenous seeds and animal breeds and species
• Habitat destruction
• Contaminated food
• Destruction of traditional knowledge systems and traditions
• Control of agriculture inputs and food distribution channel
• Threat to individual farmers
9. Advantages of OrganicFarming:
• conventional farmer’s canactuallyreduce
production cost by over25%.
• eliminating the useof synthetic fertilizersand
pesticides.
• minimizing soil erosion by up to 50%and
increasing crop yields up to five-fold within 5
years.
• free from harmful chemicals, artificialflavors and
preservatives.
• Eating organic foods may in fact, reduce therisk
of heart attacks, strokes andcancer.
10.
11. Disadvantages of
Organic Farming.
•· Organic food is more expensive because farmers do
not get as much out of their land as conventional
farmers do. Organic products may cost up to 40% more.
•· Production costs are higher because farmers need
more workers.
•· Marketing and distribution is not efficient because
organic food is produced in smaller amounts.
•· Organic farming cannot produce enough food that
the World’s population needs to survive. This could lead
to starvation in countries that produce enough food
today
15. Conclusions
When the fruit is ripe, it will emit certain smell to attract birds,
bees, and humans. This is how seeds are disseminated. If we do
not pick them, they will definitely fall on the ground. So eating
fruits and vegetables is common sense. On the other hand,
animals and livestock are raised by humans. They have the right
to live.
Actually they have long lived on the planet and deserve the
right to live. Having vegan diets can help protect the animals and
also reduce global warming. With organic agriculture, the water
can be well preserved.
I believe the benefits of vegan diets and hope more and more
people can learn something from this project. And all together
we can make our planet a better one by this eco-friendly choice.
16. Suggestions
1. To promote sustainable foods production, the government
should limit the consumption of meat products.
2. We should purchase local agriculture products, particularly
fruits, vegetables, and crops.
3. Research on agriculture should take climate and the
nutrition plants have into consideration.
4. More subsidy and research funding should be provided for
organic and eco-friendly agriculture.
5. Agriculture in the city should be encouraged and promoted.
6. It is suggested that meat consumption should be limited,
and people should have meat-free diets at least once a week
