The Origin of Tabla  Mainly there are two opinions 1) The Indian people attribute that Tabla was born in India 2) Tabla was introduced to India from Middle East countries & then spreaded in India  Other Opinions 1) During the reign of Allaudin Khilji, His court musician Amir Khusro 2) The Instrument called “Table” in ancient Arabia 3) According to Prof.Lal Mani Mishra, The Tabla was derived from the word “Tabie” Prof.Lal Mani Mishra 3

  7. 7. 4. Gharanas of Tabla  Derived from the hindi word “Ghar”  Which means “Family” or “House”  There are five Gharanas of Tabla 1. Delhi Gharana 2. Lucknow Gharana 3. Farukhabad Gharana 4. Banaras Gharana 5. Punjab Gharana 7
  8. 8. Delhi Gharana  Founder is Ustad Siddhar Khan  In early 18th century  Playing style was called Delhi Baaj 8
  9. 9. Lucknow Gharana  Founder is Siddhar Khan’s grand son Ustad Miyan Bakshu Khan  In 19th century  It is considered as an offshoot of the Delhi Gharana  Playing style was called Lucknow Baaj 9
  10. 10. Farrukhabad Gharana  Founder is Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan  In 19th century  Playing style was called Farrukhabad Baaj 10
  11. 11. Banaras Gharana  Founder is Ustad Ram Sahai  In 19th century  Founding is Banaras  Playing style was called Banaras Baaj 11
