5. Adolescence(12-18 years)
Adolescence is a period of transition
from childhood to adulthood. It
includes many physical, cognitive,
moral, social and personality
development .
6. Physical changes
Puberty is a period of rapid physical
growth and sexual maturation that
occurs during adolescence. These
changes begin somewhere between ages
8 and 14. Girls begin puberty at around
10 years of age. Boys begin about a year
and a half later. These changes take
around 3 to 4 years for completion.
7. Cognitive development
Cognitive development refers to the development
of the ability to think and reason.
Adolescence marks the beginning development
of more complex thinking processes including
abstract thinking ,the ability to reason from
known principles, the ability to consider many
points of view according to varying criteria ,and
the ability to consider the process of thinking.
8. Moral development
As youths' cognitive, emotional, social
development continue to mature, their
understanding of morality expands and
their behavior becomes more closely aligned
with their values and beliefs. Therefore, moral
development describes the evolution of these
guiding principles and is demonstrated by the
ability to apply these guidelines in daily life.
9. Personality development
Personality development is not only about
changes in traits but also about changes in
other layers of the self, such as the identity
layer. Forming one's identity is thought to be
the key developmental task of adolescence,
but profound changes in personality traits also
occur in this period.
10. Social development
Social changes are particularly notable as
adolescents become more autonomous from
their parents, spend more time with peers,
and begin exploring romantic relationships
and sexuality. Adjustment during adolescence
is reflected in identity formation, which often
involves a period of exploration followed by
commitments to particular identities.
