1. I also had to take into consideration the costume of my dead body too. It was important to be to
show how even though everyone has struggled to survive, my main character has an advantage over
him, I have tried to show this in comparison to shoes, as the dead body has trainers which can wear
away much quicker than boots, and also by the rips in his jeans as they are heavy and he hasn’t been
lucky enough to find a pair that can offer him a better layer of warmth and protection.
2. I also placed my main character in boots, this was essential as they added protection and support as
the only mode of transport people living in the apocalypse have is having to walk on foot. This
means that foot wear is important as strong shoes will last for much longer and won’t wear away as
easy. I took my footwear inspiration from ‘The Book of Eli’ as there a scene at the beginning where
he finds a pair of boots and is so happy he dances. This depicts to the audience how happy he is and
how hard it is to find decent items that will help with your survival.
I placed the relative of my main character in a lab coat. The reason for this is that I wanted to make the audience
trust him in his research findings that they will hear about in the voice over. However even though the audience will
trust his knowledge of chemistry and biology, will they trust him and will they put him into this ‘mad scientist box’. I
also wanted to emphasise how different life was before the apocalypse and how societies aims and objectives have
changed in a very animalistic way.
3. I have placed my Main character into a dull grey hat, the reason for this is to symbolise the
warmth he needs in order to survive, and how it’s dark enough to camouflage himself at
night. Looking back at my research I can see that a hat is an essential part of a post-
apocalyptic outfit. This was another reason I wanted to use one. An example of this would be
the scene inside the shop in 28 days later, as the character changes from his hospital clothes
into a coat and a hat.
I have also placed my character in a black
coat, this continues to symbolise the warm
that he needs to survive but the colour can
help him to hide in the shadows from any
possible danger.
He is wearing a grey jacket as I
wanted to take inspiration
from The Road and I am
Legend, as these characters
are seen as powerful and
capable and their clothes
represent this
He is wearing gloves to depict the warmth and protection he needs
however I also chose to have him in fingerless gloves, the reason I did
this is for practicality, and that he would be capable to do more
activities in order to help him survive. It also meant that I could add
dirt into his fingernails and show to the audience that there aren’t
any luxuries anymore and he doesn’t have the time to have showers
and put on fresh clothes like people would have used to be able to
do.
I placed my main character in
black baggy trousers; the reason
for this is because he would have
had to take them from someone
else perhaps even a dead body in
order to be well equipped to
survive in this diseased world.
The colour black also helps to
hide in the night so that he
doesn’t get ambushed or
attacked. Black also absorbs heat
so they will be able to add an
extra layer of warmth.
