2. Summary
1. Standard/Outcome: I.A.2
2. Demonstrate Mastery: (1) The flyer was an assessment of educational and
administrative technology needs. (2) This is also an example of using Adobe InDesign
to create valuable visual aid resources that will be displayed around school as well as
in the community. (3) Software was used for instruction and social enjoyment.
3. Artifact Benefit: By creating a flyer, I as well as the students are using their learning
styles in addition to their audience. This flyer will benefit the students, parents,
guardians, and etc if created visually appealing and interesting. By integrating
language arts, media and special educational resources people will be educated in
concepts, in addition to basic programming skills.
Reflection
Using Adobe’s InDesign is a program that is extremely new to me. In the past, I
have taken many courses that resource some knowledge with the Microsoft Office
Software. InDesign is the complete opposites. Microsoft Office is cheaper software
that was created to be user friendly and have options very easily located to use.
Whereas InDesign has many hind features. With more time and practice I know that I
will master this program.
Creating a flyer was done for two reasons. Reason number one: as a graduate
assistant within the Special Education Department, they asked me to create a flyer for
the Through Their Eyes Conference occurring in April. Reason number two: my
professor in my MCOM 538 Desktop Publishing course told us it was an assignment.
Developing a flyer in desktop publishing is something that will be done often in the
educational world, therefore learning the basics early is necessary. When developing a
flyer I had to think about a number of things. My planning was done in three steps:
distribution, format and audience. Distribution could be done two ways: one in hand
such as mail, handed out to individuals, or on car windshields; another way could be
posted on a wall, bulletin board or table top. Format, the format of majority of flyers
is usually portrait view and 8.5 X 11. Finally, my audience. In order to create a good
flyer my design must match with the audiences’ characteristics, including age,
interests, income, and location. What makes a good flyer is using the goal of getting
the audiences’ attention, a strong focal point, impact and communication.
Feedback on this flyer from me would probably be including the presenters’ names
and/or their brief information. I didn’t want to post a photo of each presenter because
there are way too many to put on a flyer. Overall I think that it has an eye grabbing
awareness and gives the appropriate amount of information without giving too much
or not enough.
