3. Solar water heater is a device which
converts sun’s heat energy into electrical energy.
Solar components , Solar cells ,Solar cookers , Solar
water heaters are used all over the country.

5. Solar water consists of an insulated box painted
black from having a glass lid to receive and store
solar heat
Inside the box it has painted copper tube coil
through which cold water is made to flow
Water gets heated and flows out into a storage
tank
The hot water from the storage tank roof top is
then supplied through pipes into
Buildings
There are eight important components in a solar
water heater.

7.  Solar thermal collectors capture and retain
heat from the sun and use it to heat a liquid
 Flat plate collectors are an extension of the
idea to place a collector in an 'oven'-like box
with glass directly facing the Sun
 Most flat plate collectors have two
horizontal pipes at the top and bottom, called
headers, and many smaller vertical pipes
connecting them, called risers.

8.  The type of glass used in flat plate collectors is
almost always low-iron, tempered glass
Such glass can withstand significant hail without
breaking
This type of collectors are considered as DURABLE
COLLECTORS

9. For heating and cooling purposes in industries like
pharmaceutical and drug , paper, leather
Textile and also for residential houses, hospitals
nursing home, hotels swimming pool etc
 An ETC can operate at a range of temperatures from
medium to high for solar hot water, air conditioning
and solar cooker
 ETSCs can be more useful than other solar
collectors during winter season

10. PASSIVE SOLAR WATER HEATER
An integrated collector storage (ICS or Batch Heater) system uses a tank
that acts as both storage and collector
Thin rectilinear tanks with a glass side facing the sun at noon
Simple and less costly than plate and tube collectors
 But they may require bracing if installed on a roof
Located above the collectors to work properly
Heat loss is largely avoided since the storage tank can be fully insulated

12. ACTIVE SOLAR WATER HEATER
Active systems use one or more pumps to circulate water
Pumped systems are more expensive to purchase and to operate
They operate at higher efficiency can be more easily controlled
It has controllers with features such as interaction with a backup
electric or gas-driven water heater, calculation and logging of the
energy saved, safety functions, remote access and informative
displays

14. APPLICATIONS OF SOLAR POWER:
Drying clothes , fruits , reducing moisture content in grains ,
making salt from sea- water
SOLAR CELLS are used in calculators, electronic watches ,
street lights ,radios ,TVs
 SOLAR BATTERYS produces more electricity to run water
pump , to run street lights
SOLAR HEAT COLLECTOR are used for irrigation & domestic
water supply in villages

15. Direct rays from sun is used to warmth the houses
