1. Evaluation
Tools Used
To complete this task I began by using the polygonal lasso tool to
draw around the outline of my head. Right-clicking the highlighted
area allowed me to create a new layer.
Next, I used the eye dropper tool to take a colour sample of my hair
so I could edit it without changing the background image. I then used
the bucket fill tool to change the appearance of my hair to a one-tone
colour.
After I repeated the process for the clothes I was wearing, all I had to
do was create the necessary layers to add my facial features. I began
by using the ellipse tool for the eyes and then for the nose and mouth
I used the brush tool. I increased the size of the stroke to 12 pixels to
broaden the image, creating a more realistic portrait.
Problems
As I was new to the software I encountered a few initial problems
when creating the portrait. For example, there were times when the
areas I selected with the lasso didn’t seem to layer properly as the
layers I created were blank. This was because it was trying to copy
something that wasn’t actually there, and I resolved it by making sure
the background on both the original and target layers were selected.
Another problem I had was that selecting a colour for my neck also
changed the background to the same colour. This could be resolved
by being a bit more careful with the lasso tool so that it is highlighted
more accurately, and that there are no gaps for the colours to leek.
