Travel and Tourism Club
The Travel and Tourism Club was established in
1989 as a forum for students interested in Travel
and Tourism to network and socialize with other
students and professionals. Each year the club
organizes “Travel-Tourism Career Day”, which
brings varied industry professionals to campus
who share with club members their perspectives
and insights into the Travel and Tourism indus-
try. The club also hosts alumni who return to
campus to share their experience and offer guid-
ance for finding jobs. Visits to Minnesota tourist
attractions, convention centers, travel companies
and sporting events are common club activities.
The club also sponsors an annual trip to popu-
lar tourist destinations in the United States and
abroad.

Program Features
Travel and Tourism is an applied
career-oriented major. Through class
activities, applied research projects,
site visits, and invited speakers,
students gain the necessary tools and
experience to build successful careers
in the tourism industry.
Travel and Tourism
Travel and tourism is a 45-credit major pro-
gram, and a 24-credit minor designed to prepare
students for careers in one of the world’s fastest
growing industries. Worldwide spending for tour-
ism exceeds $3 trillion and employs s more than
200 million people. Only the health care industry
generates more jobs than does travel and tour-
ism in the United States. In Minnesota, domestic
and international tourists contribute $9.8 billion
to the state economy, nearly half of which goes
to salaries and wages. The Travel and Tourism
program prepares students for a variety of careers.
Graduates of the program work for major compa-
nies and corporations in Minnesota and through-
out the United States and abroad in such areas as
travel planning, accommodations, airlines, attrac-
tions/ events management, corporate travel, cruise
lines, government, tour operations, automobile
rental and many more.
