Re: _______________________________
This letter and resume are in response to the ___________________ with ______. This opportunity
correlates very well with my skills, experiences and professional aspirations.
As a current student pursuing a master’s degree in Recreation, Sports, and Tourism Management at
California State University, Northridge, I am passionate about the recreation, sports, and tourism industry.
The courses from the program have prepared me with management skills and insights, from perspectives of
both academic theories and real-world practices. In addition, I have developed strong skill set in leadership,
business development and customer service. When I was in Taiwan, I worked as a real estate agent in Taipei,
and eventually became a supervisor in successfully leading my team to achieve sales goals; this
accomplishment had driven me into a team player with goal-oriented who can success under the pressure.
During my graduate program, I have partaken a marketing internship at CSUN’s Athletics Department. This
internship provides me with good opportunities to further enrich my experiences of organizing and managing
outdoor projects. For instance, I was in charge of assisting sports events and connecting the local CSUN’s
athletic team with the local community. Another part-time job at CSUN’s Department of Special Event
enabled me to work as events assistant to support my supervisor for planning and coordination of special
campus-wide events, such as Yo-Yo Ma Event, VPAC Campus Holiday, and President’s Donors Luncheon.
On the other hand, my travel and study abroad experiences have enlarged my worldview and I am
competent to work with people of diverse backgrounds. Meanwhile, as a project manager, I have been
assisting my family business in international educational exchange, from time to time. I have gained hands-
on experiences from cultural and education counseling, host family placement, and recruitment of the
Chinese and Taiwanese students. This would bring practical applications in terms of international exposure
and awareness.
I am confident that with my background, knowledge and experiences, I may be a valuable asset to _____.
I’m looking forward to meeting with you to further discuss this opportunity as International Outreach
Counselor. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Yu-Kang (Kong) Cheng
