17. Bazalgette Tunnel Limited: trading as Tideway
The new Infrastructure Provider is the first Wastewater only
company in the UK. It is made up of the following shareholders:
The investor group includes a significant proportion of UK pension
funds through which over 1.7 million UK pensioners will have an
indirect investment in Tideway.

39. Normal Operation
Flow from the NLL is lifted by pumps at Station F to enable gravity flow
to join the NOS and flow to Beckton for treatment.
At the moment, if the restriction of flow to the NOS requires alternative
discharge from Abbey Mills, then the river penstocks will open and the
flow diverts to the Channelsea river.
Once the Lee tunnel is operating, those river penstocks will permanently
close and the TTT penstocks will divert flow via the Lee tunnel.
When the TTT is operating and joined to the Lee tunnel to form the LTT
discharge to the Channelsea River will be possible during storm conditions
(or at high levels, -3mAOD)
Abbey Mills
40. Ideally flow travels down the nos, enters Beckton inlet works, gets
treated and the effluent is discharged to river
The nos flow might be combined with flow from Abbey Mills, and
Meanwhile to protect the nos there might also be flow diverting to TTT
If Beckton starts to reach capacity (there is an F5 at the inlet wks) flow
can be diverted to the storm tanks and if necessary discharged to River
(untreated).
If LTT levels at Beckton reach a certain point,, it can discharge to River
via the Tideway CSO (weir).
If Beckton has the capacity, the Tideway PS lifts the TTT flow to the nos
for treatment.
When the TTT is built, there will be discharge point lower than the
Tideway CSO (weir), so this will no longer be used to discharge in storm
conditions.
Instead the Tideway PS flow will be controlled by penstocks so that it

41. Cyber Security
Trend Micro published paper in 2013 highlighting the extent to which cyber criminals
are now actively targeting Industrial Control Systems, specifically water plants.
Honey pots were created and within 18 hours attacks started. Over 28 days 39 attacks
from 14 countries were recorded of which 17 would have been catastrophic.
50. “The Great Think” is Tideway’s innovation programme
Can we find our very own 21st Century
Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s?
‘Tideway will deliver a sustainable legacy of innovation by capturing
and sharing our solutions via I3P (Infrastructure Industry Innovation
Platform) to support UK’s Construction 2025 strategic vision’
Innovation in 2017 and beyond?
