2. • “Plastic Pop” is a phenomenon which took place in the
1950’s; this phenomenon speaks for itself as the word
“Plastic” describes the reality of the Pop genre. This idea
sums up the pop genre in a less emotional and serious
form, thus the word plastic perfectly describes this.
Through my research and information gathered, we were
able to determine that this phenomenon has been around
since the 1950s working its way in the modern 21st
century.
• It is an idea of an industry of ‘One Hit Wonders’. One Hit
Wonder is when an artist or a band creates an amazing
song and wins a music reality shows, such as Britain’s
Got Talent, American Idol or Pop Idol, and are then
offered a record deal as they ‘win’ the show, only to find
that after the first promotion and advertisement,
everything is a lot more quite.
3. • The first to endorse this idea were the Pop Idol.
Winners from this show are called ‘One Hit
Wonders’ as we have mentioned before. However in
contrast to this, some successful acts have raised
from Reality TVs such as Leona Lewis, Spice girls,
Kelly Clarkson and Girls Aloud. Yet some acts such
as Will Young, Leon Jackson are just the first two
on a list of winners who have had unsuccessful
careers within the plastic pop
• However a lot of criticism is given to such shows
as some people believe that such endorsement and
promotion ruins the ideology and phenomenon of
Pop genre itself while some other might disagree
and say that such phenomenon took the genre of
pop into a new dimension with new opportunities.
4. • While this is all the information, we were able to
procure, the first and most interesting result of my
research was pretty interesting. We were able to
find this book: "Bubblegum: The History of Plastic
Pop.” Which is quite a read as this is one of the few
traces of information able to be found on the
internet.
