- 2. Topic paper check • Good work! But room for improvement! • Add a bit structure, conclusions and recommendations • Broaden the scope to environmental management (MPA-development, MSFD- descriptors) • HOW should environment be considered in MSP and the issues which can be addressed in the MSP-process.
- 3. Oh future, oh future! What will you bring? Sweden • Expanding nature protection MPAs from 6.7%10% by 2020 • Green Infrastructure approach-Looking for coexistence with other - what and also when, time perspective e.g. birds • Connectivity studies, but tricky issue • Protection should be in other countries as well • Stronger regulations on migration corridors to be expected Denmark • Proposal on marine protected areas. • Perhaps on Natura 2000 areas.

Germany • Regulation or stipulation for protected areas, Natura 2000, developing managing plans. • Discussion on measure of MSFD, how it can be used as a tool for MSP, to integrate migration corridors into MSP. • No more new MPAs. 50% in economic zone Poland • No more new MPAs, as for now. But who knows what the mysterious future holds?

Conflicts, synergies & coexistence • Challenges with coexistence (Offshore windpower relation to: birds, harbor porpoise, mussels) • More information needed, but some conclusions have to be taken, because MSP will happen. • Accept that we will never have perfect information but use the information we have: Prioritize!
- 6. Recommendations for planners Co-operate! • MSP cooperation needs to have status of a continous task, not a project. Resources should be allocated. • Constitute bilateral/multilateral work groups, and these should be based on formal agreements between countries, see German/Polish example. • Scientific advisory board, linked to the work groups. • Think tank, to demonstrate good practices of MSP. • Better exchange of information between the Helcom Vasab MSP work group and other thematic Helcom work groups, fex Helcom Fish, Helcom Maritime
- 7. More recommendations Develop common policy framework! • Initiate/develop common policy level agreements on environmental related aspects e.g. renewable energy. Increase knowledge/share data! • System information on planning system and MSP- system including links between plan-project and SEA- EIA • Collect more environmental data, new information on e.g. migration, and develop ways to exchange this data and information (Helcom/Vasab) • Develop joint project on monitoring. • Develop sensitivity maps on e.g. oil spills.
