2. DRUG
Drug is a stasubnce used in the
diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease .
Medicine
Medicine is the science and practice of the
diagnosis ,treatment, prevention of
diseases.
3. MEDICINE= Active pharmaceutical ingredient (API ) + Binder +Lubriciant + Glydanet +Disintegrating agent
=API +EXCIPIENT
Difference between Medicine & Drug
MEDICINE DRUG
1.Medicine has doses form. 1.Drug hasn’t doses form.
2.It has doses. 2.No doses.
3.API+ Excipient 3.Only API.
4.All medicine are drug. 4. All drug aren’t medicine.
5.Only use to treatment diseases. 5. Diagnosis,control,prevention,suppression.
6.It has more than one ingredient. 6. 3.Only API.
4. General mechanism of drug:
Drug
Receptor
Rreceptor complex
Activation of second messenger
Action
5. RECEPTOR: Receptor are macro molecule,Lepoprotein in nature situated on cell membrane or
inside the cell and have chemo Recognication properties for specific brand with which drug
bind reversevely or irri-versively produced pharmacologic effects.
Classification : According to location:
1.Membrene receptor:This receptor is situated on the external surface of plaza membren.
EX:Cholinergic receptor.
2.Cytoplasmic receptor: Situated on cytoplasma. EX: Steroid receptor.
3.Nuclear receptor:Situated on nucleous on target cell . EX: Thyroid hormon receptor.
6. CLASSIFICATION :According to their function:-
1.Active receptor:About 1%-2% total receptor are active.they combine with drug and produce
effect. EX:Histamine receptorG : H1 & H2
2.Spare receptor :About 98%-99% of total receptor are spare receptor actually they are this
are inactive. But when active receptor saturated they become active .EX: Nicotinic receptor.
3.Silent receptor:Drugs bind with this sides without producing any pharmacological effect. This
side act as storage site.
7. G protein coupled receptor: G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest and most diverse group
of membrane receptors.
