The falling girl reflection did you ever hear the expressions
1. The Falling Girl Reflection
Did you ever hear the expressions
Free fall
Fallen woman
Fall from grace
Heading for a fall
Falling out
In the above there is a sense of a lack of control as well as a
bottoming out. Neither of these is true in Falling Girl. In the
end, society no longer rules her or better said, she no longer
allows society to govern her. Instead of “thudding” at the
bottom of the immense skyscraper, there is no sound and no
entertainment for the lowest floor residents.
Consider: Is there is no sound because she refuses to fall to her
death?
So, she can control time and space? Do you see her bounce
gently off the concrete? Do you see her walk away? Do you see
her as aged, but with days ahead of her? Just asking.
Time is a curiosity in this short story. But ever since Alice in
Wonderland, I, as a reader, have been prepared for almost
anything. My generation also was brought up by The Brothers
Grimm and Andersen’s Fairy Tales. The mythic runs rampant in
these, preparing children for realms unknown and sometimes
toward what science may now hint and history has shown. Time
moves at varying "falling" speeds immediately next to the
skyscraper. Time is “normal” inside and in the sky and on the
earth. Time is on the “speed up plan” in association with these
sacrifices to society. They age as they fall. They have the
ability to control the speed of their fall. This is not phys ics as
2. we think we know.
The girls dress in their finest and throw themselves off a great
height hoping to draw others to themselves in a wanton act of
attention seeking. Surely, you have seen some people seek such
glorification, but not in such extremity. It is the senseless
throwing away of opportunity for five minutes of focus. But
sadly, Society does not even know their names – or cares to
learn them.
They are disposables.
