TRANSMISSION BASED PRECAUTIONS (ISOLATION
PRECAUTIONS):
Based on the mode of transmission of the disease (Contact, Droplet,
Airborne).
Aims at Isolation of the pathogen in form of patient isolation to minimize
Morbidity and Mortality.
Applied in addition to Standard precautions and Not instead of them.

• A special room with a hand wash Station, a private toilet and a self-closing
door (the same disease and microorganism may be cohort together with a
physical separation between the cases (one to three meters).
• There are no specific ventilation requirement (pressure differentials, but
should be well ventilated and air suction to outside the facility
• In a place relatively far from the rest of the patients' care
• Preferably to be provided with a front room (Ante-room).
• If an individual room can not be provided, the patient may be placed at the end
of the unit with a physical separation (curtain or barrier) separated from the
rest of the patients with a distance of not less than two meters.
• The separation is made from cleanable and disinfectable material& is changed
between patients and every week and in the case of visibly contaminated.
• The walls and floors are smooth, easily cleanable, dust repellent or paint
containing copper ions.
• There must be a thermometer and a patient‘s blood pressure monitor.

• In can not be provided, the patient should be placed in a single room with a window
overlooking the outside area away from the patients' rooms, while keeping the door
closed and the window is open. The air direction from the door to the window [air
suction could be used to secure the air direction away from the patients’ wards]
