3. INTRODUCTION
Plastic waste-consisting of carry bag, bottles,
chair etc.
Plastic waste- hazard to environment.
Plastic waste-construction of flexible
pavement
4. A material that contain one or more organic
ploymers of large molecular weight, solid in
its finished state and at some state while
manufacturing or processing into finished
articles, can be shaped by its flow.
WHAT IS PLASTIC?
6. Aggregates-
Stone dust and lime as fille
Aggregate of 20mm,1Omm
Bitumen-
60/70 & 80/100 grade
Waste plastic-
Waste plastic in the shredded form
MATERIALS USED
13. 1)DRY PROCESS
Plastics waste like bags, bottles etc are cut into a size between 2.36 mm and 4.75mm
using shredding machine.
The aggregate mix is heated to 170°C. and then it is transferred to mixing chamber. .
Similarly the bitumen is to be heated up to a maximum of160°C.
At the mixing chamber, the shredded plastics waste is added over the hot aggregate.
The plastics waste coated aggregate is mixed with hot bitumen.
The mixture is transferred to the road and road laid.
14. 2)WET PROCESS
Step1-plastic waste collection and storage
Step2-cleaning and drying of plastic wastes
Step3-Shredding plastic wastes into required sizes
Step4- blending of waste plastics with hot bitumen at
160°c
Step5-Stirring with mechanical stirrer & proper
cooling up to 130°c-150°c.
Step6-Mixing with aggregates
Step7-The mix is known as waste plastic bitumen mix
(120°c-140°c) and is used for road laying at 110°c-
130°c
15. Use high percentage of plastic waste.
Increase the strength and performance of
the road.
No effect of radiation like UV.
The maintenance cost of the road is
almost nil.
The cost of road construction is also
decreased.
ADVANTAGES OF PLASTIC ROAD
16. Cleaning process- Toxic present in the
co-mingled plastic waste would start
leaching.
During the road laying process in the
presence of chlorine will release noxious
HCL gas.
The components of the road once it has
been laid are not inert.
DISADVANTAGES OF PLASTICS
ROAD
17. Help to improve the environment.
Plastic will increase the melting point of
the bitumen.
Devloped a technology,which is eco-
friendly.
Use of the innovative technology not only
strengthened the road construction but
also increased the road life.
