Introduction :-
 DTS-i stands for “Digital Twin Spark Ignition”.
 Digital twin spark ignition technology is a brand new Automoble Engine Technology
that gives a brillient combination of power and mileage together .
 In actual practice, complete combustion is not possible due to various losses in the
combustion chamber as well as design of the internal combustion engine.
 This can be done by using two spark plugs which spark alternatively at a certain time
interval so as increase the diameter of the flame & burn the fuel instantaneously.
 By generating two sparks at upper end of the combustion chamber, (approximately 90°
to the valve axis) the air-fuel mixture gets ignited in a way that creates two flame fronts
and, therefore, a reduction in flame travel
Why it is Called “Digital”…..?
 Because it has some intelligent device that controls the fuel supply according to
the varying loads.
 This device is known as the “Electronic Control Unit” (ECU).
 The Electronic Control Unit is a microprocessor based system and can be regarded
as the brain of the fuel injection system and spark timing.
 It collects the information given by various sensors and accordingly operate the
spark plug.
Principal of Dts-i Technology
 In Digital Twin Spark Ignition System Two
Spark Plugs Are Used, Controlled Digitally
; By A Micro Processor.
 These Spark Plugs Ignite the Fuel more
Efficiently at the end of Compression
Stroke .
Working of DTS-I system
Digital Twin Spark ignition engine has two Spark
plugs located at opposite ends of the combustion
chamber and hence fast and efficient combustion is
obtained.
The benefits of this efficient combustion process
can be felt in terms of better fuel efficiency and
lower emissions. The ignition system on the Twin
spark is a digital system with static spark advance
and no moving parts subject to wear. It is mapped
by the integrated digital electronic control box
which also handles fuel injection and valve timing. It
features two plugs per cylinder.
Various Function of DTS-i System
 It use to increases the efficiency .
 It use for faster and better combustion.
 It has two spark plug , so it burns the complete rich mixture (air and fuel) in 4stroke
petrol engine.
 It use to increase the power output of engine.
Combustion without using DTS-i
Technology
 The spark plug ignites the air-fuel
mixture and flame continuously
spreads.
 There is delay to reach the furthest
part of the combustion chamber.
 There are some non combusted fuel
within the chamber and, overall, the
combustion is slow and inefficient.
 In simple words, the air and fuel
mixture does not burn completely.
Combustion process with DTS-i Technology
 The twin spark plugs are fixed to the cylinder
head maintaining an angle about 90° to valve
axis.
 The air-fuel mixture gets ignited in a way that
creates two flame fronts.
 Therefore, a reduction in flame travel of the
order of 40 per cent is achieved.
 Hence, the outcome of this is more torque,
better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
Advantages of DTS-i Technology over
conventional engine
 Less vibrations and noise.
 Long life of the engine parts such as piston rings and valve stem.
 Low specific fuel consumption.
 Increase the Thermal Efficiency of the Engine & even bear high loads on it.
 Better starting of engine even in winter season & cold climatic conditions or at very low
temperatures because of increased Compression ratio.
Disadvantages of DTS-i Technology
 If one spark plug get damaged then we have to replace both.
 Cost is double the amount on spark plugs when it is time to replace them.
 The engine tends to overheat and loose power at higher speeds as compared to a single plug
engine.
 In case the Engine is kept unused for a long time soiling of spark plugs occur.
Conclusion
Hence it can be concluded that the application of these technologies in the present
day automobiles will give the present generation what they want i.e. power bikes with
fuel efficiency. Since these technologies also minimize the fuel consumption and
harmful emission levels, they can also be considered as one of the solutions for
increasing fuel costs and increasing effect of global warming.

Introduction :-  DTS-i stands for “Digital Twin Spark Ignition”.  Digital twin spark ignition technology is a brand new Automoble Engine Technology that gives a brillient combination of power and mileage together .  In actual practice, complete combustion is not possible due to various losses in the combustion chamber as well as design of the internal combustion engine.  This can be done by using two spark plugs which spark alternatively at a certain time interval so as increase the diameter of the flame & burn the fuel instantaneously.  By generating two sparks at upper end of the combustion chamber, (approximately 90° to the valve axis) the air-fuel mixture gets ignited in a way that creates two flame fronts and, therefore, a reduction in flame travel

Why it is Called “Digital”…..?  Because it has some intelligent device that controls the fuel supply according to the varying loads.  This device is known as the “Electronic Control Unit” (ECU).  The Electronic Control Unit is a microprocessor based system and can be regarded as the brain of the fuel injection system and spark timing.  It collects the information given by various sensors and accordingly operate the spark plug.

  • 5. Working of DTS-I system Digital Twin Spark ignition engine has two Spark plugs located at opposite ends of the combustion chamber and hence fast and efficient combustion is obtained. The benefits of this efficient combustion process can be felt in terms of better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The ignition system on the Twin spark is a digital system with static spark advance and no moving parts subject to wear. It is mapped by the integrated digital electronic control box which also handles fuel injection and valve timing. It features two plugs per cylinder.

  • 7. Various Function of DTS-i System  It use to increases the efficiency .  It use for faster and better combustion.  It has two spark plug , so it burns the complete rich mixture (air and fuel) in 4stroke petrol engine.  It use to increase the power output of engine.

Combustion without using DTS-i Technology  The spark plug ignites the air-fuel mixture and flame continuously spreads.  There is delay to reach the furthest part of the combustion chamber.  There are some non combusted fuel within the chamber and, overall, the combustion is slow and inefficient.  In simple words, the air and fuel mixture does not burn completely.

Combustion process with DTS-i Technology  The twin spark plugs are fixed to the cylinder head maintaining an angle about 90° to valve axis.  The air-fuel mixture gets ignited in a way that creates two flame fronts.  Therefore, a reduction in flame travel of the order of 40 per cent is achieved.  Hence, the outcome of this is more torque, better fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

Disadvantages of DTS-i Technology  If one spark plug get damaged then we have to replace both.  Cost is double the amount on spark plugs when it is time to replace them.  The engine tends to overheat and loose power at higher speeds as compared to a single plug engine.  In case the Engine is kept unused for a long time soiling of spark plugs occur.

Conclusion Hence it can be concluded that the application of these technologies in the present day automobiles will give the present generation what they want i.e. power bikes with fuel efficiency. Since these technologies also minimize the fuel consumption and harmful emission levels, they can also be considered as one of the solutions for increasing fuel costs and increasing effect of global warming.
