4. TSP(Triple Super Phosphate)
◎ Triple Super Phosphate is a phosphorus based
fertilizer.
◎ It is produced by the action of concentrated
phosphoric acid and ground phosphate rock.
◎ It is generally known as calcium dihydrogen
phosphate and as mono calcium phosphate.
◎ the structure of triple super phosphate is Ca(H2PO4 )2
. H2O
◎ It needs to have a minimum chemical content of 47%
P2O5.

Step - 1: Production of H2SO4 from elemental Sulphur.
Sulphur is first melted and then burnt with air to form SO2
which is then converted to SO3 in presence of V2O 5
catalyst. SO3 is then absorbed in water to produce
Sulphuric acid.
phosphoric acid is produced by the reaction between
sulphuric acid and rock phosphate. The filtrate containing
28 - 30% P2O5 , which is concentrated to 48.5% P2O5. The
principle reaction for producing H3PO4 by the wet process
is as follow

TSP is manufactured by acidulating finely ground phosphate rock with
48.5% H 3 PO 4 in a reaction den under standard conditions of temperature
and flow rate. It is a continuous mixer steel cone into which phosphate rock
and H 3 PO 4 are fed simultaneously; slurry is discharged from the cone onto
a moving conveyor belt. A popular manufacturing method in the fertilizer
industry is the use of a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) cone mixer and a
broad field den that allows the continuous mixing of rock and acid. The slurry
solidifies on the belt and it is further processed to powder form for use in
mixed fertilizer production or to granule/pellet form for direct application to
the soil. It is then dried and bagged.

14. Storage and Handling

• TSP has excellent physical qualities. It stores,
handles and flows through all types of equipment
extremely well.
• Does not take up moisture in storage or in the field.
• Spread very evenly.
• TSP flows significantly quicker than other fertilizers,
approximately 15 to 20% faster than DAP so care
must be taken in calibration, before sowing.
