Writing an Advertisement
• What is advertisement?
A notice, picture, film or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or
publicizing a job vacancy.
 Writing an Advertisement:
It is very easy to understand how to write an ad and where to print it or where to
publicize it.
There are few basics of writing an advertisement given below.
1. Before you write an ad, you must think what you are going to sell.
2. Decide whether to write the advertisement yourself, or whether to use a copywriter or
advertising agency.
3. Decide whether you are publishing your ad online or in printed publications. For example
in newspapers, magazine, on social media or on websites.
4. The size and style of your ad should depend on your as well as on the publication it is to
appear in.
5. Think about your target audience - what problems can you solve for them and what
unique products you can offer them and how are they likely to get in touch with your
company?
If you have a start-up business and you want to advertise on print – in newspapers,
magazines or other publications.
Writing an Advertisement

The person who lays out your ad should consider himself/herself
primarily a communicator, not a designer. The goal of your layout is
to get people to read and understand your message. Your copy
should get potential customers to act, while your layout should get
potential customers to read your message
Test your advert After Writing
Test your ad by showing it to existing customers and asking for
feedback; test different approaches online to find the wording that
gets the highest response.
6 Components of a Good
Print Ad Layout
Headline:
• The headline is the first thing most readers look at, even
before they read your whole advertisement.
• Headline grab reader’s attention and induce them to read
your add from head to bottom.
• Must be great headline to get reader's attention.
• Headline must be small and must not be consists of false
promises and wrong or illegal words.
Illustration:
• Illustration reinforces the headline.
• This shows how your product works or what it looks like.
• This Must grab the reader’s attention.
• In illustration a good picture can be used.
Example: at cheaper price,
Body Copy:
• Body is the Text that persuades the reader to
buy your Products.
• Must be interesting .
• Must tell the reader something that he/she
wants to know.
• Offers facts you claimed in headline.
Company details:
Company details usually carries the.
• Company name.
• Address
• Contact numbers
• Emails
• Advertised products
Call to action:
• It tells the reader what to do next.
• This tell them what Action you want them to take to
obtain the desired product/service.
• Call to action to prompt a response.
• Prompts the reader to take action.
For example:
Discover the exciting world of outside. Subscribe today.
Tag-Line:
•Summarizes your product or the philosophy
of your company.
• It should encourage the reader to act, i.e.
to go and find out more and buy the
product.
For example “USE SUPER SHINY, MAKE YOUR HAIR SHINY”
“Be young, have fun, drink sting”
