Application of Computational
Intelligence in Modelling and
Control (CIMC-2023)
23–29 January, 2023
Funded by “KAARYASHALA” Scheme under Science and
Engineering Research Board (Accelerate Vigyan Scheme)
Coordinators:
Dr.K M Arun Neelimegham
Dr. Shihabudheen KV
Dr. Rakesh R Warier
Organized by
Department of Electrical Engineering
National Institute of Technology Calicut
NIT Campus P.O.,
Kozhikode ,Kerala– 673601
About the Department
Electrical Engineering Department of NIT Calicut was
established in 1961. The Department offers an
undergraduate program in Electrical and Electronics
Engg., post graduate programmes in Instrumentation &
Control Systems, Industrial Power and Automation,
High Voltage Engineering, Power System and Power
Electronics as well as research programmes leading to
Ph.D. Degree
About NIT Calicut
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is fully
centrally funded by Ministry of Education and is
governed by the NIT Act 2007. Institute has ten
departments, three schools and nine research centers.
It offers eleven UG, and thirty PG programmes along
with the Ph.D programme in various fields of
Architecture, Planning, Science, Technology,
Engineering and Management. Members of the faculty
have active collaborations with universities and elite
institutions within and outside India for research and
have active consultancy for industries. For details, see
the website: www.nitc.ac.in
About “KARYASHALA” Scheme under
SERB
‘KARYASHALA’ is an effort to improve research
productivity of promising PG and PhD students from
universities and colleges through high-end workshops
on specific themes. This program aims to provide
opportunities to acquire specialized research skills.
These workshops will primarily be facilitated at
organizations / institutions / laboratories of national
importance such as IITs, IISc, IISERs, NITs, CSIR, ICAR,
ICMR etc.
About the programme:
The objective of this programme is to transfer
knowledge and to impart special skills to those engaged
in the promotion and facilitation of theory and
applications of computational intelligence in modeling
and control of dynamical systems. Modern engineering
systems show increasing complexity due to their high
nonlinearity and large disturbances and uncertainties
introduced by them. In many cases, conventional
mathematical models, such as differential equations
that can accurately describe the complex systems and
can be exploited in real-life applications, do not exist.
However, with the fast development of advanced
sensing, measurement, and data collection
technologies, a large amount of data that represent
input-output relationships of the systems become
available. This makes data-driven modelling (DDM)
possible and practical.
The workshop is aimed to give lectures and training on
machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques
in modeling and control of the latest applications. The
participants will be exposed to the basics and
fundamentals behind the algorithms with applications.
Finally innovative ideas and solutions for latest
problems prevailing in DDM like robotics, unmanned
aerial systems, Reinforcement learning, etc will be
explored.
Topics covered:
● Mathematical foundation for system engineering
● Modelling of Stochastic and intelligent system
● Reinforcement learning
● Big data analytics for modeling
● Neural networks and fuzzy logic control
● Deep learning for sensing and perception
2. ● Intelligent Robotics and autonomous systems
● Applications to unmanned aerial systems
● Model predictive control
● Python/Matlab Programming Language during
Lab Session
● Hands on: Date driven modeling, control and case
studies.
● Working on real-time examples and lab
experiments
Resource persons:
All the sessions will be handled by faculty experts from
IITs/NITs and experts from leading Academic
/R&D/Industry.
