Information regarding creation of CSE Deptt
● Computer Engineering Department was created in the year
2004.
● During that time Mrs Rita Rajkhowa was the Principal of PCPS
Girls’ Polytechnic.
● Initially intake capacity of this department was 30 nos.
● Later this capacity was increased to 40 numbers.
● First batch passed out from this polytechnic in the year
2007.
● 22 numbers of students were passed from this department
as first batch.

10. ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS (EEE)
LABORATORY
• The Electrical and Electronics Laboratory under
the Dept. of Computer Engineering was
developed with support from AICTE-NEQIP and
Govt. of Assam.
• The laboratory is well-equipped to support a
maximum of 40 students at a time. It is used for
imparting Practical Hands-on learning to
Computer Engg 3rd and 4th semester students
regarding Electrical and Electronics Engg basics
under the lab courses : (i) Elements of Electrical
Engg (EEE), (ii) Digital Electronics (DE) as per SCTE
syllabus.
• Also, the laboratory delivers practical classes of
Fundamentals of Electrical and Electronics Engg
(FE&ELE) for Civil Engg 3rd semester and
Multimedia Communication & Office Equipment
(MMC&OE) for MOM 6th semester as per SCTE
syllabus.

16. RECENT INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO
ASSAC, GUWAHATI
• On 17th June, 2023 of the previous Even
Semester (March to June 2023), an Industrial Visit
to the Assam State Space Applications Center
(ASSAC), Guwahati was organized for the 4th
semester and 6th semester students of the
Department.
• Mr. P.L.N. Raju, Director, ASSAC, Guwahati (ex-
Director, NESAC, Meghalaya) initially addressed
the students and delivered an overview of Space
Technology and its application. This was followed
by highly engaging conceptual and hands-on
session to the students on areas such as DGPS,
ASSAC Mobile Application, UAV, GIS, Web
Application and Remote Sensing Application.
• Each year the Department has been organizing similar
Industrial Visits to different esteemed organizations
including R&D organizations, IT firms, Academic
Institutions of repute such as IIT Guwahati, AMTRON,
PHE (Govt. of Assam) etc.

17. RECENT INDUSTRIAL STUDENT INTERNSHIPS
• Two (02) nos. of Industry oriented IT internships
were coordinated by the Department during the
summer break from 3rd to 20th August, 2023 for
upskilling the students in modern technologies and
trends.
• Ten (10) nos. of students from Computer Engg 4th
semester attended a 18-day internship programme
conducted by Digifox Labs Pvt. Ltd, Guwahati. The
students were given module-wise hands-on
experience on trending IT Skillsets like Java
Programming, HTML, CSS, MySql & PhP, Javascript &
Bootstrap etc.
• Fourteen (14) nos. of students from Computer Engg
4th semester attended a 15-day internship
programme conducted by Air Campus Pvt. Ltd (a
Bangalore based Start-up Company) on “The World
of Web Development : a Hands-on Approach” and
were upskilled in HTML, CSS and Javascript (basics).
• Over the years, the Department has been promoting
similar Industry-aligned internships to nurture skilled IT
professionals empowered to handle changing
technolgical trends.

18. RECENT WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS
CONDUCTED
• An offline certificate course on Fundamentals in
Python Programming was conducted by iHUB
DivyaSampark (a joint initiative of GoI, DST and IIT
Roorkee) for Diploma 3rd and 5th semester (all
branches) during 28.12.2022 to 02.01.2023 where
the students were exposed to hands-on Python
learning.
• An Industry Seminar on Introducing You to the IT
World was conducted by TechVariable Pvt. Ltd,
Guwahati for Computer Engg 3rd and 5th semester
students on 30.12.2022. The experts emphasized on
core IT skills (HTML/CSS), resume building, soft skills.
• A One-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) Skills Bootcamp
was organized as a part of Intel’s CSR Initiative (AI for
Future Workforce Program) on 29.03.2023 by Digifox
Labs Pvt. Ltd for awareness of Computer Engg 4th
and 6th semester students about the role of AI in
building future generation IT Systems.
• Over the years, the Department has been organizing
similar such Industry-aligned workshops for all round
development of students in addition to the regular
academic activities.

19. RESEARCH AND INNOVATION INITIATIVES
• Ms. Reshmi Begum, presently a student of Computer
Engg, 5th semester has successfully completed her
Online Research Internship in the area of Risk
Assessment and Risk Management in Cyber Secure
Networks during 22.02.2023 to 03.06.2023 under the
esteemed supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Ehsan Sheybani,
School of Information Systems and Management,
University of South Florida, USA.
• The student is further extending her study on
development of a User Prioritized Data based Risk
Assessment Model for Non-Normalized Approach in
Risk Management Frameworks.
• Four (04) nos. of students viz. Ms. Shruti Bhowmick,
Ms. Simashree Das, Ms. Pronamee Konwar and Ms.
Amisha Bodo from Computer Engg 5th semester are
also presently pursuing a similar Research Internship in
the area of Computational Techniques for 6G Future
Generation Networks at the University of South
Florida, USA.
• With due emphasis on innovations by Govt.
authorities, the Department is encouraging
student/faculty R&D and innovation activities in all
core, allied and interdisciplinary areas related to
Computer Sciences.

20. CONFERENCES ATTENDED/ PAPERS ACCEPTED
• Five (05) nos. of students (03 in physical mode and
02 in virtual mode) recently attended Springer’s
10th International Conference on Microelectronics,
Circuits and Systems (MICRO 2023) held at Hotel
Taj Vivanta, Guwahati on 1st July, 2023 (in physical
mode) and during 2nd & 3rd July, 2023 (in online
mode).
• Ms. Reshmi Begum and Ms. Shruti Bhowmick, first
authors of their respective accepted papers
presented their research at MICRO 2023 in front of
expert panelists.
• As an outcome, both the papers (extended
versions) have been accepted for publication in
SCOPUS indexed International journal Systematic
Practice and Action Research, Springer.
• The Department is also encouraging
student/faculty publications in all core, allied and
interdisciplinary areas related to Computer
Sciences.

27. CONCLUSION
• Over the years, the Computer Engg Department of PCPS Girls’ Polytechnic has
produced committed Diploma professionals who have been serving different
sectors of IT and other allied industries. A number of passed out students have
also pursued/currently pursuing higher studies at UG and PG levels in different
higher educational institutes of repute.
• By seeking regular academic guidance from the Department, a number of alumni
from this institute have been able to obtain admissions in B.E./ B.Tech
programmes through JLEE (and other such similar exams) and are observed to be
equally competent with the regular entry (Class XII) passout students.
