Vladimir Lenin was a Russian revolutionary born in 1870 who helped establish the Soviet Union. After being expelled from university for participating in protests, he became involved in Marxist political activities. In 1917, with help from Germany, Lenin returned to Russia and established the Communist government, becoming the leader of the Soviet Union until his death in 1924. Lenin believed that the proletariat revolution should be led by a communist party, that imperialism represented the highest stage of capitalism, and that socialism was a transitional stage between capitalism and full communism.
