3. Who was he?
(1818-1883)
He was born in Prussia on May 5, 1818. He was
homeschooled until he was 12 and spent five
years at the Jesuit High School in Trier.
On 1835, Karl started studying at the University of
Bonn. He got arrested for drunkenness and other
issues.
He later went to the university of Berlin where he
joined a radical group of students who criticized
the political establishments.
After he graduated, he started to work as a
journalist but the newspaper was ordered to close.
He moved to Paris where he was expelled from
France for writing in radical newspapers.

4. In Brussels, Marx was introduced to socialism
by Moses Hess. He started writing “The
German Ideology” about historical
materialism. This was published until after his
death.
Marx founded a Communist Correspondence
Committee to link socialist from around
Europe. Socialist in England formed the
Communist League, and in 1847, Marx and
Engels were asked to write the Manifesto of
the Communist Party.
Marx died of pleurisy in London on March 14,
1883.
