I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
A. Identify the manifestations of a democratic and a republican state and assess if
the Philippines possess those manifestations.
B. Explain the importance of adopting principles of international law and
adhering to policies of peace and stability with all nations.
C. Discuss the provisions in Article II of the Philippine 1987 Constitution with
emphasis on sections one, two and three.
D. Value the essence of Filipino sovereignty in the preservation of national
integrity.

2. III. Procedure
A. Motivational Activity
For their motivational activity, the teacher will let them play a game called “A
to Z”.
In this game, the whole class is involved. Each student in the class will utter a
letter starting from “A” to “Z” but there should be no two o more students uttering the
same letter at the same time.
B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
The teacher will let the students explain a quotation on principle.
“In matters of style, swim with current; in
matters of principle stand like a rock” -Thomas
Jefferson
b. Analysis
After the students explained the quotation, the teacher will relate the said
quotation to the lesson.
Human as we are, we have our principles in life. Like what has been said in
the quotation of Thomas Jefferson, we should stand on our principle because that
what makes us human. Our principle is our totality. So, it is just right that on matters
of principle, we should stand like a rock. It was stipulated on our constitution the
different principles of our government specifically on Article II. The principles of our
state were declared in the said article and these are the guiding principles of our
government. Our government and state are standing on these principles.
The teacher will now discuss the Article II with emphasis on sections one, two
and three using the graphic organizer below.

After the discussion, the teacher will ask the students if what they have
learned about the lesson.
For generalization, the teacher will ask the students this question;
What is the importance of these principles to us, Filipino people and to our
government?
d. Application
For the application what the students have learned, the teacher will ask
them the following questions,
In case of Martial Law, is civilian authority still supreme over the military?
Why?
Can we declare war immediately, without the approval of the congress? Why
or why not?
Knowing the fact that we are representative democracy, is there an instance
wherein we exercise some feature of pure democracy? If yes, in what way?
Can we let an international law be part of our law even if; it is not in
consonance with our constitution?
